Today's Episode features what was probably the WEIRDEST session I've ever had. On day, while I was Solo Slooping, I found a random key to the Fort of Fortune being carried on a ship, however.. The fort that key belonged to had an already opened vault. It just didn't make any sense.
I figured that as part of me trying to figure out this mystery, you might be able to take away a few tips and tricks on how to play solo. I know solo slooping can be intimidating but once you master the art of solo PvP, you might find it just that much more satisfying.

I once was playing with my friend on a sloop (we were pretty new to the game then) and we were chased by a brig. They were very good, hitting every chainshot and almost sinking us multiple times, our only escape having been going against the wind. When we reached the red sea we had to turn around, which brought them very close to us. When one of them held a keg, ready to board us, I shot the keg with a cannon and all of them died. After I came back from repairing my ship, I saw nothing but free loot and a reaper 5 flag. Good moment.
That's how they learned not to carry kegs when chasing somebody haha

If I hadn’t found your channel on my recommended page I would be questioning every person boarding my ship with a keg and wondering what they were doing and finding out the hard way.
Some lessons are best learned through somebody else 😅

I mean, a pirate boarding your vessel with an explosive usually only means one thing haha.

I love how you described solo players at the start. I am by no means an amazing Sea Of Thieves player, but I usually play solo cause my friends are never on when I am. This has effectively forced me to be a jack of all trades, but made me particularly adept at maneuvering.
This is by far my fav SOT channel! so many good, and entertaining guides! I also love that your channel is clean to watch and feels super chill yet keeps me on the edge of my seat anticipating his next boarding attempt. Keep up the awesome work Cliff!

i literally just took down a galleon crew as a solo sloop because they wasted their resources and cannonballs on missing me, they also tried boarding me WAY too much and forgot that their ship needed to be fixed. Oh also my playtime was 20 hours at the time
I've seen many sot videos and guess I know that it's hard to make them entertaining. But your videos sir are entertaining in every single second! Not too long, not too short, no boring loops and your style telling the story is awesome. Keep going mate! Looking forward for more.

Man, I have not played SoT in awhile but watching these videos makes me want to go back. I just detest some of the toxic behavior people have in the game. Kill them with ranged weapon? get called a slur for using whatever you killed them with. Kill them with melee? get called a melee noob. kill them with cannons/prevent them from boarding? get called a ladder camper.
it seems people just don't like dying, and the minute they do 99% of the time they become toxic as hell.

Aye, never underestimate a solo Slooper.
My favorite moment in SoT was soloing a Skull Fort, about 70% of the way through soloing it.
A 4 man Galleon showed up.
I had to retreat to my sloop, and decided to park it behind 2 giant pillars far away from the Island and cannon myself over to the island (Including a solid 3-5 min swim distance afterwards. So my sloop was well away from the island and view)
By the time I'd finished that, the guys were just clearing up the fort, and were killing the last wave.
I sniped the guy who killed the last boss. Took the key and bolted away, hiding the key in a bush while I was out of view then kept bolting while holding a compass in my hand making It look like I still had the key.
After outrunning them, I grabbed a Keg and swam it underneath their boat.
Then camped out on the stair on the side of the galleon facing away from the island.
Once I heard them board their ship, I quickly went downstairs and disposed of them. And proceeded to do so until the ship sank.
By this time the second Galleon had arrived at the Island.
So I quickly hid myself on the top of the tower on the island and waited to see what they' do.
I then noticed they were looking all over for the key, since It had to be around as they could only see the first galleon. And that It had sunk mysteriously.
My sloop parked behind 2 pillars of stone so far away they were barely within view distance.
So they had no clue there was a sloop player around.
I managed to sneakily get back to the bush on the island and grab my Key.
And swam it into the bottom of the Ocean, Took a screenshot of where I was, then proceeded to place it on the bottom of the Ocean in that random place. No landmarks, just the knowledge you had to sail into NW for about 20 seconds then dive down.
No one would ever find it.
I then ended up in a really fun 1v4 running around the island having fun with those guys, before sinking their ship once they had all been killed.
At this point another sloop was showing up, and before long.... The first galleon.
I had some fun 1v2's against the sloop then 1v2v4 once the galleon showed up.
None of them knowing where my ship was, so It was always fun returning by shooting myself over the pillars then swimming all the way there.
I eventually managed to get rid of all of them.
But I knew It wasn't going to be easy to get the loot, since they were sure to return.
I eventually went back to my boat, and went on to do some other things in the area while keeping an eye on the boats.
They eventually left.
So I returned, found my Key.
And began loading my sloop... A lengthy proccess when done alone by a greedy pirate who won't leave a sliver of loot behind.... Especially as this was during the first 1-2 weeks of the game... Before any Harpoons existed to loot within minutes.
Sure enough, I ended up getting engaged by both a galleon and a sloop, who returned and saw my sloop parked at the fort for good 15+ minutes.
But, having access to all the remaining kegs on the island to myself, I was able to make yet another pro gamer move, sailing my sloop straight ahead with the wind in my back I dropped off with a Keg in hand and a Galleon infront of me.
Dropped the keg, went onto the ladder, ship hits the keg.
And once I hear repairing noises I once again make my move and go on to Anchor them.
Then kill them all repeatedly until I finally died myself.
I then got back onto my sloop as I respawned just in time to save it.
As the other sloop had caught up to me, having stayed a bit back due to the galleon.
I then had the most exciting chase I've ever had in SoT as I sailed away from this sloop, who had an exceptionally skilled helmsman I must say.
The chase lasted close to an hour with me boarding him multiple times, and him boarding a few times.
Amazing PvP, but... Alas.
It all ended as I finally got him in my boarding, steered him into a reef then anchored him after he hit it.
All the previous boarding stealing planks in each trip left him no choice but to give up the chase.
Maybe he had planks on him, maybe not.
But I mermaid'ed away and got my loot sold at last.
Best SOT content hands down, every video is so entertaining
when I was playing a lot before my baby was born. I had a duo sloop try and take my single sloop out. I was engaged in battle until 40 mins when I ran out of supply. they messaged me saying I have scared them and had super close moments of sinking them lol

I assume the Key was left over from a server merge, happened to me before where I beat a fort and than the server merged to a new one were all my stuff was in an open vault now. Left over key in hand I just left it behind to confuse people.

@@CliffTheStoryGuy Yes it's happened to me aswell like 4 weeks ago, finished the fort and about a minute or so after the server merged leaving the key in my hand an it opened the vault door. you can still use the key aswell if you wait long enough for another fof to spawn I believe

Ive been playing for only a few days with my brother, we did an open crew since he wanted the galleon. we had alot of loot but we saw a sloop, i said we should sell but they said we outnumber them. They all wanted to fight them and guess what. it was only one player! In like 15minutes he sunk us, i was pissed at my crew for not listening to me but the guy was chill and allyd us, also gave us some tips and showed us a secret area.
I completely agree, i play solo and im a new player. I have to constantly think of creative solutions to sink ships with more players. I,ve managed to sink two brigs so far and fended off a galleon. Still learning but hoping to join a crew someday.
So… I think I entered this server after you guys. I spawned on a server a few months ago with a key at Galleons Grave. We found it in the PL hideout entrance. Sailed to literally every fort on the map… all of the vaults were opened. It’s the craziest, most unexplained thing I’ve ever experienced in this game…
To awnser ur question happened once for me when u run away with the key then the server changes the vault will be open with treasure and u will still have key so then u can go to another active fort open door take treasure without even doing fort lol I trolled another crew that day they were doing a fort I took treasure while they were fighting skellies lol

so ive had this happen, complete fort of fortune solo, get the key, (session merge) the door opens automatically and leaves the key available.. this told everyone where i was and that fort had been completed and i had no way or getting rid of it

I might be wrong, but I seem to remember someone hiding a Reaper's Bounty in the same place as that key. It's essentially a place that you can get into, but not back out again. Wedged between two rocks, you'll black screen if you go anywhere near it. An annoying trick.

I've tried looking around in-game but can't seem to find it anywhere in the Emporium or at faction merchants.

When you megakeg somebody, light it below as you did but immediately jump out of the back of the ship.
When I played SoT, I didn't have friends to play with and I never trusted anyone in the game. I don't know any pvp meta, and I'm just not that reliable in 1v1s and up. If anyone wants me, they get me, or my ship at least. I could never defend myself- and I can confidentiality say that for any game by myself (like battle royales)

Did you check the pirate legend cave entrance for the key? I have succesfully hidden stuff there few times.

First commodity run done and u won’t believe how much I got. Noting… I bought 12,000 worth of commodities then the kraken came and on top of that 2 megalodon and on top of THAT a reaper sloop came to sink me
I found a keg floating the other day and brought it on my ship but then quickly decided it was a mistake and threw it over the side.....problem was that I'd ignited the keg without realising it and the anchor was down...
Instead of admitting defeat and giving up the key people have figured out how to take it into the basement, and walk through the portal, the key or whatever item will drop inside the portal and be lost forever but always show until that server is reset

Smoked three brigs today and made 200k+ as a solo player, but died to a f*cking volcano. What a way to go out...

We had this happen last night and we had a server wild alliance. Does the key just randomly generate? Bc nobody did anything for it to appear

Did you check the athena tunnel?
so there was some solo slooper at an outpost, looked like a fresh spawn
there was a galleon laying fire into said solo slooper
but then i came near there and saw some galleon
so naturally, i attacked the galleon
not long later, galleon sunk, and i got the stuff(ashen winds skull, ashen captain chests, ect)
the other sloop grabbed like some ashen villainous skull or something, then promptly sailed away without a single word said between us
guess it was either intimidation or just him letting me have the stuff, idk
TLDR: watch both ya broadsides
They probably put it in the Pirate Legend Hideout entrance
dude i used to be an a really good solo player before ive got lot of friends i could play with, honestly lost minej solo slooping skills used to be able to even sink reaper gallys back before ..
the legend hideout. they buried it inside the legend hideout under the tavern
the fort just opens after a certain amount of time regardless if the key is used or not. they were sailing around with the key for too long and the fort opened
You know... It's quite frustrating when people tell you to get good at a game where the pvp just doesn't work. It's like having an open wound and using elmers glue to try to close it. Sorry I'm not an armchair pirate. (Pirate Legend since month 2).

This was likely caysed by a server merge. The ship that had carried this key must have finished the FoF in a previous server before being merged with yours, giving them a free key and an open vault. It happened to me before.
This seems to happen a lot more often to people than I anticipated..

Just pop in to an active FoF with the key, rob the vault, sell its contents and tuck at the fort to watch some sweaty galleon rip themselves apart upon finding out that their slugfest with the defenders were all for naught.

On the map it was so far away from the tavern that I didn't bother checking the hideout, though somebody said apparently there is a spot on that outpost where you can get into, but not out of and sometimes people throw stuff in there out of spite

I 100% love to play solo i have done some amazing robberys and chases but i feel as soon as you go bigger than a sloop the toxic gankers are a joke i try to play mid week in the day time....
