How I Discovered Schreker - just now, because of this video

In my listening to Eschenbach's Mahler, I've always found him to have a particularly unique talent for bringing out the warmer, pastoral sounds. I found that this album was no exception. I guess Eschenbach knows his sonorities!

This is a wonderful production, captivating from beginning to end. As a long-time Schreker nerd, I eagerly and hopefully not vainly hope for the release of a complete Der singende Teufel, which is the only one of his operas yet to be released on disk in a non-pirated format.

One of the best recordings I've heard in awhile.

A wonderful set! Luscious, sumptuous, decadent..I especially enjoy his 'Kleine Suite'. Fantastic orchestration.

Just have bought it. Will be delivered tomorrow. I‘m so excited. Delius also was a „vertical man“, not a „horizontal“ one. I love him - a good prognosis for Schreker. The bits I heard were fascinating. Thank you Dave! Harry

This is a very tempting collection that sounds too good to pass up, despite our already having the excellent and very compelling Gielen performance of the Chamber Symphony.

I already have Schreker's works from the Operas. A must have...thanks for the review, Dave, as otherwise I may have overlooked this gem.

I wholeheartedly agree with this review, and would add: it’s also an exceptional sound recording.

Thanks Dave for introducing me to another composer. This is wonderful music. At first listen I am reminded of Debussy.

    Dear Dave!
I would like to ask you to consider to review the big Haitink box (113 Cd's)in the near future .
Best wishes Fred from Kristianstad. 🙏

Absolutely a wonderful recording. It is rather amazing that it took so long for DG to catch up. Can Braunfels and Weigl be far behind?

I have purchased the download version from Qobuz and have listened to some of it and enjoying it immensely, so thank you for the recommendation. What I find very sad from DG, the premier classical label, is the extraordinarily poor booklet notes (at least in the electronic version). For a start they are only in English and German. We get an extensive synopsis of the opera Der ferne Klang, supposedly having some “autobiographical elements” (which I find highly dubious - although it probably had some advertising appeal back when the opera was composed). We get no composer’s biography, beyond his early life (which is important for a relatively unknown composer such as Schreker) or any real information about the other works on the discs. Instead we get a gushy commentary quoting Eschenbach extensively. I have not the slightest interest in Eschenbach or his opinions on Schreker or anything else for that matter. Fortunately the texts fo the songs are provided, but only in German and English.

An extremely light music, at least for me. Casella, whom you keep praising, is a true unrecognized master, though.

Hi Dave, I'm a young classical music lover watching the videos on your channel. I recently started a composer called giacomo myerebeer, and as always, I wanted to get help from dave's video, but I realized that there were no uploads related to myerebeer. So I'm curious what dave thinks about the composer myerebeer and if dave has any plans to do a video related to myerebeer in the future.

Meyerbeer is an important, grossly underrated composer.

I enjoyed the Kleine Suite, except for the fourth movement: Fughette 'bout it!
    Please don't banish me.

It's just as well you didn't pronounce his name as 'Shreecker' since that resemblance to 'streaker' might give him a suggestive connotation.

Would he have pronounced his name with a short “e” if it were spelled Schrekker?

Greetings from Germany: Shree-ker, but not pronounced as Shrieker. It‘s a long German ‚e‘ as in Beethoven

DG have not exactly done much for lesser known Austrian and German composers.
