  • Since we are down one Zamboni at the moment, I’m using our DC 552 to resurface both sheets. I got lucky as both games ended early, so I didn’t have to rush to get on the other rink.

I agree ! ........exactly the way I do it ! 3 outside laps and then the center. Watching this operator's overlaps I must say "He knows his stuff !" Very nice work.

If you don't mind I've got some questions.
Is a freshly made ice rink level?
Does a ice resurfacer utilise any level devices.
Would you say the word level is important for an Ice Rink & Ice Resurfacer?

@@WilsonFox123 Many variables but the basic answer lies in the flooding. Everyone knows that water will find it's level. That said, the ice temperature will determine what temperature the water should be to insure that the water has time to level out over the ice surface before freezing. The arena's cement slab is not always perfect so some areas of the ice rink will need more water than some other areas to get a somewhat 'level' ice surface. At our rink we do a wet cut to warm up the ice followed by a dry cut prior to flooding. The next morning we use the edger once or twice then another dry cut followed by a final wet cut to start our day.
Depending on how busy the rink is used we will flood once a week and sometimes we flood twice a week. That pretty much takes care of the "level" question.
We also prepare the ice for curling but that's another matter. Curling up hill would not go over all that well !
Our Zamboni does not have a "level" or any "leveling" device. I know there are laser level ice systems for these machines but I have no clue as to how that works out. Maybe someone else familiar with a level ice system could answer that question.
I hope this answers some of your questions. Take care and be safe.

@@WilsonFox123 I don’t know why it took me this long to respond sorry! The Zamboni used in this video employs a laser leveling system known as LevelIce. A laser collector rod raises from a housing at the back of the Zamboni at a height which is able to capture the laser being given off by a device mounted to our wall. As the cutting platform moves up and down with the waves of the ice, so does the collector; this allows the system to determine instantaneously what height the ice is at in a specific spot on the ice, and automatically adjust the cutting blade accordingly. Super cool stuff, and saved my right arm from a workout. Usually, the blade is manually lowered or raised by a wheel next to the rest of my controls!

@@dompellegrinoable Yeah don't worry, thanks again for the information, was helpful.
Currently I'm investigating a controversial subject that literally involves the earth. (trying to be unbiased).
I think level ice for a ice rink helps with the answers.

If I was to be honest I feel like this rink is in America as when he turns to the flags it’s only the American flag and on the Zamboni the logo is the American flag too so I have my doubts of it being in America and not Canada

The game had ended late and I was on a time crunch. You’ll notice that I didn’t actually start resurfacing until everyone was off
