I met Lanny at an autograph signing when I was very young. The only 8x10 they had on sale to be signed was from his time with the Maple Leafs before he had a mustache, and I was so disappointed. So, when I got up to him, I asked if he would draw a mustache for me. He snickered for a moment and then realized I was completely serious. And so he drew the mustache. It’s still one of my favorite autographs.

I grew up an absolute hockey fanatic and the Montreal Canadiens were and are my team. I was a young boy when they won those cups closing out the 1970's and was in high school for the '86 cup. In '89, I was in my senior year of high school and Montreal was up 2 games to 1 with game 4 in Montreal. I was POSITIVE they were going to win again, that was the best team top to bottom I had seen since '77. When they ultimately lost, I wasn't nearly as upset as I expected (or as anyone else expected) and it was honestly because of Lanny McDonald. When Montreal won in '86 Lanny was being interviewed outside the dressing room and it was clear that he was devastated. Choking back tears he was gracious and complimentary in a way that really made an impression on me. He said "They are our champions", speaking as a member of the league. Wow. I was just taken back by his courage and class and when it was my turn to be gracious when devastated, I was able to because of his example. He was a true sportsman and we miss men like that in our professional games more than most people realize. Great player, great human!

Met Lanny a few years after he retired when I was a kid and just really starting to get into Hockey. I cannot remember a player since then that I've met who impressed me more. It was like you were just talking to your neighbor having a BBQ out in your backyard. He was such a nice, humble gentleman that I never even thought the entire time about getting an autograph which is why I approached him in the first place. After chatting about my aspirations (I wanted to be a goaltender) and what were the kinds of things I needed to be working on he said he hoped to see me in the NHL someday. I of course never made it that far but I never forgot about that time with him when I was little. After we were done talking and I was walking off I was a good distance away and I heard his voice from behind. He said "Hey kid you forgot this". Lanny was holding a signed card and handed it to me. I never even asked him for that, and I never forgot about it either. I still have that card, sealed and framed, hanging in my living room. It's my most prized possession.

Great memory of seeing Lanny loft the cup in 1989 i was 13 and i realized this man wked his entire life for ths moment . There wd momemts like that later watching ray borque inn2001 for Colorado. i was in Boston for that win! How Boston loved him and how they rooted for him against jersey like it was the bruins. Great great memory. And of course watching dave andreychuck lift cup in 2004 when Tampa beat Calgary. Even few days ago seeing eric johnson life the cup after all the injuries and almost walking away from the game, also Cogs! I was so so so so happy for Andrew Cogliano and i was happy for jack johnson, after all he has been through with parents stealing his money and just being the whipping boy on so many of his teams. At 35 he made the team on a PTO
Injury to Girard allowed him to play and to my shock and surprise he wasn’t a liability for Colorado he played his role well.
I wish it wda gone to 7 games so that it we be considered an all time classic. Too too many injuries for Tampa. To me is it was an incredible finals. Kucherov had no ability to shoot at the end if game six one time his stick broke and he threw his gloves at the trainer. The second chance he got the shot off but nothing on it that cross ck by Towes few games earlier. He cdnt shoot!!! Wht can u do injury is part of the game.
Safe to say the NY Islanders 19 consecutive play off series wins is safe! Thats a record im confident in saying will Never be broken!

There's a disproportionate number of retired NHL players who have chosen to retire in Calgary. It has been spoken about quite often on Flames Radio. I think it is related to Calgary starting the NHL's first Team Alumni Association and players who were traded from Calgary didn't sell their homes, but rented them out to other hockey players, until they retired and moved back to Calgary.
