    The more common use of Aetherflux Reservoir is with Sensai's Divining Top, and Bolas's Citadel along with some kind of cost reduction like Helm of Awakening or Foundry inspector. Bit much of a combo but it's not really that hard to "put together" as it may seem.
    A neat combo that players will use in Aristocrat decks will use a persist creature with some effect on field that gives a 1/1 counter to a creature entering the battlefield. The +1/+1 counter negates the -1/-1 counter the persist keyword gives, however, the persist trigger ALWAYS happens before the 1/1 counter is put on it. For Example; Muderous Redcap ETB's through persist and does ONE damage to any target, then sees the 1/1 counter negating the -1/-1 counter from persist.
    Thank you for your time reading all this hope it was helpful.

  • @Stez007
    @Stez007 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can also combo Basalt Monolith in a much more "fair" way by pairing it with Rowan Kenrith. With Rowan, you need to use her -8 to get the emblem that lets you copy abilities. Since it's a -8 it's a lot more difficult to resolve than just playing a Forsaken Monument or something, but since it's an emblem once it resolves it's also harder to deal with. But your opponents should know better than to let you get the -8 off, and Rowans other abilities are just godawful, so it's significantly more of a fair way to pull off the combo. It's a minimum 3 turns of Rowan on the board before you get the emblem.

    • @drpibisback7680
      @drpibisback7680 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heliod-Ballista is substantially cheaper in terms of mana investment than Mike and Trike, so probably better. I actually run Mikaeus and Walking Ballista in my grindy Meren deck because it can be tutored off Protean Hulk and the deck already has Blood Artists and value sac outlets to capitalize on it (since unlike Trike, Ballista can't shoot your opponents before shooting itself and thus requires a free sac outlet to kill). Mike and Trike is the classic, but 12 mana is a lot more than 7 for Heliod (plus his activation) and a Ballista with one counter - plus Ballista's mana sink utility gives it something to do when you're not comboing, while Trike is both expensive and underwhelming without lots of recursion (three damage can maybe snipe a utility creature or two and that's about it, unless you add another card like Basilisk Collar).

      118.3. If an effect causes a player to gain life or lose life, that player’s life total is adjusted accordingly.
      118.4. If a cost or effect allows a player to pay an amount of life greater than 0, the player may do so
      only if his or her life total is greater than or equal to the amount of the payment. If a player pays life, the payment is subtracted from his or her life total; in other words, the player loses that much life. (Players can always pay 0 life.)

    Why do I never see people say Kiki + Coercive Recruiter? It's moderately funnier as it also steals every creature on the board and gives your whole board haste, infinite untaps, and pirate type (if that matters).

    I thought in commander you can have a 15 card “wish board” for cards like karn that let you get stuff from outside the game?

    • @drpibisback7680
      @drpibisback7680 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Generally, Commander is played without sideboards (since as a casual format, nobody's playing best-of-3 and 99 card singleton would make a sideboard significantly less sensible). That said, in kitchen table play most Wish effects are treated as "search _your collection_ for such and such card," so you can always just bring some cards to Wish for and your opponents will probably let you unless it's a competitive pod.
