I saw those leaf spring sheaths and my memory bank kicked in. As kids we often went to auto scrap yards and stripped that lead sheathing off the springs to make fishing sinkers.

👍👏😊 Between 1949 to 1952 body style, I like the 1950 grill the best

My Dad taught me how to drive in a 1950 DeSoto, I would watch the hood ornament while steering. I loved the dash at night, the speedometer would glow blue.

I have a '50 Dodge with Fluid Drive. When I was having some work done, my mechanic lost that brace that goes from the engine block to the air cleaner. I had to go to a junkyard to get another one. The one I picked up had a switch on it, like this DeDoto has. It took me a while to discover it was the kick down switch for the semi-automatic transmission. Apparently the parts car I was cannibalizing had the Gyro-Matic. They used different names for Chrysler and DeSoto, even though they were the same transmission.

DeSotos were painted at the factory with a synthetic baked enamel, not lacquer which was used on GM cars.

There was an illuminated hood ornament available for these similar to what Pontiac had. I guess the original owner didn't want to spring for that accessory. :-)

THERE WAS A DAILY DRIVER UNTIL AT LEAST 1965 IN ANETA NORTH DAKOTA, THE RINGSTADS HAD A GLASSWARE STORE AND HE WAS A WATCHMAKER, IT WAS A 4 DOOR SEDAN EXCEPT THAT THE BACK SEAT FOLDED DOWN, I BELIEVE IT WAS NAMED A CARRYALL.

Whoa! I am overwhelmed at the condition but the styling is so ... beautiful. The car's beauty leaves me speechless. Thank God there are car preservationists out there to care for these cars. People must understand this history to America, engineering, what white people designed and built in a most competitive atmosphere.

Really wonderful, but I always worry that a subsequent owner will trash it - and not necessarily by intent, but just by storing it badly. I'm reminded of the video I saw a few years ago of a old man who was selling a barnful of old cars, all of which were damaged or ruined to various degrees. Some obviously had been in beautiful condition when he got them, which he even pointed out himself, but which now were scratched or dented or had junk piled on top of them. Meanwhile the auctioneer or seller guy was happily repeating, "Oh, that'll clean up real nice" or other stupid statements.
