  • My third tutorial video for the DSI Tempest, focusing on how to create an 808 style snare sound using Osc 3 for digital noise, Osc 4 as a sine tone, and Osc 1 for a little bit of analog noise.

    Keep coming back to these every few months. It's wild how ahead you are in terms of teaching the tempest.

    The first times I watched your videos, I was amazed at how precise they are and how spot on they are with the character of a sound. A year later plus, I’m going back to really understand it. It makes sense in a whole nother level now.

    would be great if you can make a tutorial for different types of snares, similar to the kick tutorial, which was fantastic!

    Adam! Man, Thank You sooo much!!! I just bought a tempest and arrived about 3 weeks ago. This and the kick video have really helped me to understand how to navigate the tempest while giving me a launching point to learn drum synthesis. Thank you once more and happy new year!!!

    Thanks. Very clear and simple explanation and guided tour, of a potentially complicated instrument to program.

    These videos are excellent, please do more! Some great tricks in there. I can't believe how close you are getting these sounds!

    Super classy idea to vary the noise sample slightly! I find drum synthesis bloody hard but your videos are most illuminating. +1 for 808 style open/closed hats for a future vid. I also dug your longer kick videos showing variations, hope you've got time to keep them coming. By far the best Tempest (and drum synthesis) videos out there. Cheers, and thanks again for taking the time to share your knowledge, I know they're time consuming to put together.

      Ride open HH or crash would be awesome. Not sure how to shape envelope on those and also no ring mod.

    • @AdamSchneiderMusic
      @AdamSchneiderMusic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good ideas. Btw, while there is no ring modulator, you can do audio modulation (AM) which is very similar to ring mod by assigning a fast LFO to the VCA. It's really useful for making metallic sounds.

    I have a tempest I bought 6 months ago still in the box never opened, looking at this now I think the learning curve will be long and frustrating...not sure I will ever use it now after watching this. Looks like you would need to devote many many days just to learn it.

    Do you think its feasible to design a 909 snare on the Tempest?

    • @AdamSchneiderMusic
      @AdamSchneiderMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could probably make something that sounds close. Honestly the Tempest really shines when you stop using it like an emulator and find all the unique sounds it can make!

    It's possible to create this on the rev 2 also right?

      Don't have that synth and I've never personally messed with one, so I'm not sure honestly.
