MJ was infused all up in every aspect of this song from production, to the vocals, to the choreo, and obv to the MV yet somehow JK’s talent, skill, and overall JK-ness(?) 😂 still shined through. Oh he’s taking over the industry, without a doubt.
It's also a call out to the great Quincy Jones, the legendary 70s and 80s producer (who did Off The Wall, Thriller and Bad for MJ). There are so many of Q's trademark sounds (like when the final note you can hear an echo). Also Cirkut (who produced The Weekend's Starboy) is one of the producers on this track and Seven.

Ozlem's reaction is so genuine! And understandable, Jungkook really has given his all in this MV, what a great performer he is. This is the best song from his debut album to me. It's just so good! MV is great, I love the image and the choreography, the backup dancers did so well. The girl is a Ukrainian model btw, Pasha Harulia; and the MV director is Ukrainian, Tanu Muino, she directed MVs for lots of top American artists. I completely understand your reaction. It’s exactly how I felt too!!! He put his entire soul in this! He deserves all the recognition. No one’s doing it like him. He’s the whole package, a top tier singer, top tier dancer, and on top of that he’s fine as hell. Legend status for sure!
The US media (for all their bs) actually crowned BTS as the princes of pop many years ago for being the only artist they felt has carried on MJ’s level of skill and performance ability. THIS is the mature JK I expected right from the beginning! I've got the feeling Seven and 3D were for a younger demographic. But THIS, THIS is the real chapter 2.0 for Jungkook. Apart from all the nods to Michael Jackson and Bruno Mars, the music is superb....the bass, the guitar, the drums, the sax.....the production, as Esosa mentioned, is on point. The song structure is unusual which keeps your attention. The choreography is excellent. And the vocals and adlips are chef's kiss!! And apart from that there's this man in the video that oozes confidence out of every goddamn pore and that's sexy as fuck !!! Standing Next to You is JK's ticket to global superstardom. BTW: The vocal part that sounds familiar to you is from Warren G's "Regulate" feat. Nate Dogg :P

Amazing channel. I've always had this androgynous look as Jung Kook and other guys in K POP, but in my case it was fuel for bullies when I was growing up. I embraced it, used it to my advantage in my acting / modeling career, I was almost the face of Leon in these new Resident Evil games :) To anyone who's ever been a victim of hate / violence because of their appearance, gender, orientation, race : DO NOT ever let a hateful notion 'there's something wrong with me' sink in. Trust me, it's a recipe for self hatred and compulsive anxieties later on. When we suffer and we need a break, it's only natural to think: 'maybe if I wasn't 'different', if I was 'normal' I would be accepted. No, haters will always find something else to prey upon. They're extremely toxic who can see your potential and value but will drag you down with intent and hideus determination, when they notice a slightest sign of insecurity. Remember; There's never anything wrong with you.
I think you also need to acknowledge the fact that the whole “androgynous” label was placed upon you because of toxic western beauty standards for men, and cut yourself some slack because of it. If you were to move to other regions like East Asia for example you’d be considered to be on the “prettier side of the scale” since femininity and feminine features is encouraged for men in Asia. So basically all the bullying you endured shouldn’t even discourage you at all. You being androgynous isn’t a problem or a flaw either, it all comes down to peoples’ perception. Just because certain groups of people see you a certain way doesn’t mean you’re “ugly” or “unacceptable” so don’t let others’ negative views get to you. I know it’s super easy to be consumed by western beauty standards for men cause you have to fit into a very specific masculine mold if you’re a male in the western world.

Sorry I can't spot the samples but hey sound super familiar, maybe Motown tunes from te 70s and probably the bass from "beat it" vibes. The bad, the good you can tell this by the lyrics "they can't divide us", "something they cant take away..."...deeper then DNA..." two rich families Montaigu/Capulet fighting against each other. The scenery refers to fire, passion at the beginning you see that red line representing devil's tail. There are no samples. What it does sound like is Warren G Regulate. But what it really sounds like is Heartbreak Hotel by the Jackson 5 and the sample in Regulate which is Michael McDonald's I Keep Forgetting. The bass line is reminiscent of Another One Bites the Dust but those bass lines were all over the place in the 80's.
