    I practice no-spin knife-throwing daily (your videos have helped a LOT), but the truth is that if you know you're going to be using whatever you're throwing as just a distraction in order to get away and escape, you could also use a black rubber throwing star. In the heat of the moment, they look like black metal throwing stars, and following up with a threat "I'll bury this in you", just before throwing will make them flinch more, and by the time it bounces off of them, you're already well into your 100 Yard Dash in the other direction.

      escape is 100 % best solution if possible

    • @grim4this
      @grim4this ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yup, id take it even further, if its a distraction then you do not need to know how to throw a knife at all, just throw it with ALL your strength at their face and run. Does it really matter if its hits side on if its throw five times harder then in the video? or even if the handle hits them that hard. And of course as a distraction EVERYONE would duck and or cover their face if someone is winding up to throw something at your head :). Maybe you could wind up like a baseball pitch then run without even throwing it, I know id be hands over face seeing that, of course maybe I'm just a pussy lol.

      I can't imagine a defensive situation where I have time to draw and throw a knife, and wouldn't be better off keeping the knife in my hand. If someone is within knife throwing range, 5-15 feet, they're a second away from knife stabbing range.

      If you're fighting another guy with a knife then most likely you're both going to be stabbed. Throwing the knife and running away instead, is the smarter way to do it. That's what the actual ninja did.

    • @wojciechk50
      @wojciechk50 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SkepticalCaveman Ok, still, if you're already in a knife fight stabbing and slashing might give you more benefits anyway. When you throw a knife and you're lucky, you may injure or disorientate the opponent, if you're not - you lose your weapon and the only thing left for you is fast legs, providing the bad guy doesn't have faster. We don't live in a ninja world anymore, at least most of us don't.

    Knife throwing is a bit complicated and requires practise. That is why it is fun, cool and interesting and used in movies. It is also keeping the battle away from you. Some argue that wrestling is where it ends up, so it is the only thing worth learning. Personally I think keeping the battle away from you is best. Not having it, essentially. See it from afar, avoiding it. My favourite saying: "Don't go to stupid places where stupid people go." (Inside boxing rings, bikergang parties, soccersupporter gatherings, small unofficial bars in industrial areas, mountain tops in the Himalayas.)

    Wait, if you are, like, four feet away from the opponent, and unless I'm seeing wrong, that's how far you throw, why not just to take a step forward and stab? No need to loose you knife, no need for superpowers of years of hard training. Knife throwing is fun, but I have sincere doubts about the tactical implications. In real life, hide your knife and intentions, come to contact distance, strike and retreat. The opponent should not even understand what happened. Or, be killed. I had several encounters with knife wielding lowlifes, never had to kill or even severely harm someone to win, lucky, had some minor cuts and scratches.

    Hey Adam, I am throwing only Glock bayonettes. I found a better way for no spin throw tecnique with the Glock.
    My recommendation is:
    Try to use your index finger on the side of the handle - where the handle meets crossguard- the instead in the curve as you showed.
    Like this if you you holding the knife in hammer grip you need to move only the index finger and you can throw it no spin right away.
    I believe like this in a combat situation the knife will be available for throwing right away without any grip change.

    Hanson has a lot of good ideas brought to him by the good idea fairy. CIA officers are taught basic run away techniques. When it comes to the whole throwing a knife, 1. You don't, and 2. If you do, you are throwing and charging behind the knife to close the distance between you and the guy you threw it at.
    Most humans holding something in their hands will drop what they are holding and attempt to get out of the way of anything thrown at their face, if they are holding a rifle they will literally throw the weapon out of their hands and jump to the side.
    The spetnetz armed with only their little death shovel will throw their damn shovels at your face to get you to flinch and drop your weapon and get out of the way while they close the distance to kill you.
    I didn't believe this after I read the book "Spitnetz" so the next time we were in the field, I tried it on numerous platoon members of my Infantry platoon, and it worked every time. These weren't some cherry new guys they were experienced Infantrymen, and every time, they tried to duck and dodge whatever I threw at them.
    Hanson is making a great after CIA career teaching some skills people expect that "everyday spies" would know and use it the field but he fell a little short in this department.
    Go check out everyday spy with Bustamante if you want a better idea of CIA techniques.

    This guy is a real teacher. He corrects the former CIA Officer but still maintains utmost respect for him. Adam emphasizes what he liked about Jason Hanson's video and offered up the gentle corrective. He makes knife-throwing look so easy but I know it took years of practice just to get competent, and more years and hard work to become the champion that he is.

      Yes, that is very true. Because in real life people get cut and stabbed and don't notice it until "after" the fight. Of course it's deadly if injured bad enough, but it's not like you really notice the knife for 65% of the injuries. At least not immediately. I have seen it happen once. Guy got into a fight in the red light district, 100s of poeple around, other guy pulls a knife and slashes his arms and stabs him in the leg and shoulder a few times before police (who just happened to be there for security reasons anyway) got the guy with the knife right away.
      First guy was still fighting and kicking the other guy while he was being arrested until an officer pulled him aside and immediately looked at his wounds and they called a paramedic right away.
      And there was so much blood everywhere from this 90 seconds fight.

    Hi Adam! In order to protect the house, I would choose spears - not knives! throwing them is much easier, their weight and striking ability are also higher. You don't need any special spears. From a knife from the company "Glock" or cold steel Bushman, you can make a throwing spear. However, in this case it is better to have at least three knife - spears. For most of history, mankind hunted and fought with throwing spears. And yes - I'm not talking theoretically - I tried it myself, in the hall of Dmitry Melnikov, although he uses a real spear, a copy of a medieval throwing spear. it is possible for me to throw a knife without turning at a distance of 7 meters, but it is difficult, nevertheless, with a spear it is done very simply. Even 11-year-old children throw a spear from 4 meters in front of me. From a distance of less than 4 meters - it's easier to take a step and stab the enemy

      I would rather use double machetes. Easier to store than spear, much cheaper, very useful as a gardening tool and nobody can fight against it. If 1 knife is troublesome to deal with, 2 machetes are almost impossible. Spear is also very clumsy and harder to handle on small places, it might just get stuck on the wall. If you learn how to throw machete from skanf sideways, there is almost no telegraph and it's accurate and easy from distances up to 3-4 meters. But throwing spear is much easier and powerful indeed, and can be a threat even if the target is 7-8 meters away or in the hands of a children, like you said

      I have a spear hanging on my wall, in the process of bringing it inside every time and hanging it i am constantly banging into almost every door frame and almost knocking over a bunch of crap. unless you live in an airplane hangar a spear is the absolute worst weapon for indoors. if you live in an oppressive country where you cant own real weapons (the kind that go pewpew) then a baton or shorter edged weapon is your best bet. unless you are talking about defending your house from the outside in which case, i guess? but where are you keeping these spears? hanging on the side of your house? In a stressful situation i doubt you would even be able to carry a spear through a doorway without getting hung up.

      A few years ago a man killed a mountain lion with a Cold Steel spears that was attacking his child, saving his child’s life. He didn’t throw the spear but stabbed with it. A short handled spear made with a knife like you suggest is very deadly as you can jab it back and forth very fast. You can keep attacking animals and people off of you if you know what you are doing. The Zulu warriors used long spears for throwing and short spears for fighting.
