And after decades of listening to "shredders", across all genres, I'm more convinced than ever that shredding has damaged music of all kinds. THIS is fantastic playing. It doesn't have to be played at breakneck speed. All that does is pump up the guitarist's ego. This is the real deal.
I was 8 years old when I decided to play guitar, this based on a TV show watched in Winnemucca, Nevada. The guitar being played was a Martin 00 or 000. I never forgot that. Years later my first guitar was a 1939 Martin 00-17 purchased in 1961 for the princely sum of $4 (four dollars) I currently own a 2015 Martin 00-18 V with highly figured backs and sides. A remarkable guitar. We will age together.... me and my 0000 and my 00. Wonderful playing Carl, always a treat. And thanks to North American Guitar for these fine videos.
I'm sure god "gifted" him thousands of hours of practice to be this good....better than any god, better than any make believe, invisible deity in the sky....that only "gifts" certain people with talent....LOL! Ron White has it right folks!
This guitar sounds absolutely beautiful! Excellent playing on this demo. I have a 00-18 from 1956. You can't beat these 50's 00-18's! they sound MUCH bigger and better than the size would indicate. Made in the old factory with hide glue, the 60+ year old wood sounds amazing!
I don't think I've ever heard a better sounding acoustic guitar. The wonderful playing might have helped. It's one of those guitars that makes me drool anyway. Yet I'm not biased. This is truely an amazingly good sounding guitar!!! ❤️
Well you could put the proverbial cigar box strung with rubber bands in this guy's lap and it would sing...but to drop a vintage Martin there...well...no words.
Yes, Carl knows how to bring out the best in an instrument. I also have a 2020 OO-18. I love it and it just keeps getting better because I play it daily. Great guitar by Martin for sure.
So gorgeously played! Just noticed that at 1:51 onwards he uses hybrid picking for the same part played with pick before. Does anyone else see it? (or am I imagining?)
I love how much you guys all vary your dynamics in these videos...Old martins really want to be hit but sound so balanced quiet. its so enjoyable to listen to yall PLAY them! Definitely subscribing.
I have a 62 00-18. It really does sound this good. This guy plays waayy better than me. But when i play my 62 00-18, people say things like, "Wow, that might be the best sounding guitar I've ever heard."
That was a good song and guitar . So many guitars though they sound so good are too bright , loud , trebly. This Martin had a good volume , balance and bass .
Somewhat O/T, but not really: "I got a 00-18 Martin guitar in the backseat of my car, and I am leaving Mississippi with the radio on." RIP Nancy Griffith.
@@deepeegg He's picking all scales and arpeggios in this video. No fingers. he does use his fingers sometimes, but not in this video. Very few people on the planet can do those arpeggios with crosspicking with that level of accuracy. Carl is a master. On top of the insane crosspicking, he has full control of dynamics of every note.
This guy’s control is unbelievable
Absolutely. Dexterity and precision is off the charts.
he knows exactly where and how far to take this yummy little 00-18
Yes it is. I spend a great deal of time and effort to reach his level of pick control and speed.

That has to be the sweetest sounding 🎸 I've ever heard.
Something about these old martins that is extremely special. Dark and Rich.
Wonderful playing by Carl. I’d create a playlist just to hear all of his demos.
They have done that.

I keep coming back to this video. The performance and the guitar are as good as it gets. Carl, you're incredible.
Same. Literally, same.
Definitely!

Keep coming back to the video not just because of how good the guitar sounds, but how brilliant he is as a guitarist.
First-class musician, with no airs and graces
Everyone needs a 00 after listening to Carl. Such a sweet and balanced voice.
Best acoustic guitar sound I've ever heard.

Hang onto that baby Dan !!! I wish my shoulders would leave me play a D 18. I have to stay with the OM's and 000's !
@@752brickie this is a 00-18. It's smaller than 000s/OMs. You could easily play it.
One of the guys we play with has a 00-18 and it is a sweet guitar !@@blessedwithchallenges9917
I’ve listened to so many of Carl’s demos. I really like this tune and guitar.

The sound of the guitar is amazing. DAMN
Beautiful !
Carl, Your A Monster.... Wow
One of the best sounding 0018 that i´ve ever heard.
Full, warm and crisp!
Amazing playing, obviously. That 00-18 is perfection. Full, deep sound with tons of growl and simultaneously harmonically complex AND deliciously dry.
Absolutely gorgeous.
Superb!
wonderful playing on a wonderful intstrument
I’ve watched this video an insane amount of times. Surprisingly I think this is one of my favourite sounding guitars.
This one's got a real punch to it, very nice sound
They should just give him this guitar. Needs to belong to a master. Pure magic!
I've been practicing this riff. At half speed it sounds great too. That's about as fast as I'll ever get it.
Lively with a Rosewood bridge and board. Awesome little guitar.
this is one of Carls best
WOW that thing sounds amazing
Fantastic sounding and playing Carl. 👍🇬🇧👍
Wow...beautiful!
beautiful guitar and play

Nobody is better than drawing out their tone than Carl!
Thank you so much Carl. Your playing sure reminds me of Doc.
insane playing
Excellent playing, Sir!
Great playing Carl, and a nice guitar
Jeannie Shepard had a 53 00-18 that was absolutely like new, amazing guitar
Very nice!
Perfect....
I think Carl can make any guitar sound exceptional, but this guitar does sound amazing!
So very nice.👏
Carl Miner is the best flatpicker we have. My girlfriend mentioned: „So fast but also so relaxed.“ 😮🤤
at around 1.20-1.21 simply sublime.the rest awesome
Where's the second guitar? Geez this dude is killing it!
Beautiful
Unreal!
wonderfull !
This guy has a lot of soul...

I do, those are all my chords and style! 👍
these videos are awesome. gonna take a lesson with these.
Someone hand this guy a squire so we can all hear it’s the player
I mean, yes, absolutely; but also that is a lovely sort of woody, middy tone
I have a similar 00-18, a ‘46. Believe me, it’s the player 👍🏻
Arf arf arf 🍻👍
Great player but these guitars make it so much more of a joy to play. Feel and sound is pure Americana.
A good driver needs a good car. A good carpet needs good tools :
I’m thinking Carl Minor is becoming my favorite guitarist.
I love Guitar
i would love to see carl playing cort earth, just to have reference point what he can do with average guitar.
Amazing speed on your cross picking
Carl rules! 🙌🙌
This guy is good!!!!
Does anyone know if this was an Adirondack/Red spruce or Sitka spruce top? Thx
What strings are on this guitar? Sounds fantastic. Also such a great player. Does Carl have any albums out that I can listen to?
I'm hearing D'Addario EJ16's or EXP16's I play these as well. He is such a great player!
@@czorr1997 are you sure they are not ej17s? its tough to tell over youtube sometimes. Golly
The strings are indeed EJ 16s. -k
as good as it gets
That was a good song and guitar . So many guitars though they sound so good are too bright , loud , trebly.
This Martin had a good volume , balance and bass .
If this is the last piece of music I hear on this planet then I will die happy.
Would like to know how and what kind of mic is used for this demo. It can make a big difference in the recorded sound.
Have these old let legendary guitars been setup with lower action?

Guys. Is he playing this entirely with a flatpick? Amazing precision
No, it's called hybrid picking i believe, he also uses his middle and ringfinger now and than.

Does anyone know what tuning he’s using? Sounds like D
Odd. I'm liking the sound of this 0018 more than a00028 or 00027EC...MORE.
wtf so good,..
What are the two small condenser mics you are using?
Schoeps CMC6/MK41s
This is the only thing wood should be used for. Musical instruments. Guitars, pianos etc. for Nothing else.
I'm almost positive if I can take a video of this at 0.25 speed on my TV. then watch that video at half speed I'll be able to see whats goin on here.
😮
What song please?
He creates these on the spot when they hand him a new guitar. From a Q and A
You could hand this guy a spoon and he would sound great. That’s what being a pro means.
