  • HOW TO DO A ROOT SHADOW | two different applications to create a beautiful ROOT SHADOW
    Root shadow
    How to color melt
    In this video you will see two different applications to create a beautiful root shadow.
    One is for a brighter blonde with a soft shadow and the other is for a little more depth. Both with cool tones and including the formulation for both shadows.
    I have full application and processing videos for both of these clients that you will find linked below.

    Great video! Thank you sooo much!! How can I avoid getting the root shadowing on the blonde ends when doing a dramatic root color at level 3 to transition to a level 9/10 on the ends?

      Hello! Great question..... if you’re starting from very dark, after washing I would tone for your lightest blonde and see what’s still brassy. That way, later you can drag down the mid tone to cool down those brassy areas. After washing out the lightest blonde toner run some keratin treatment thru the ends. This will protect the ends from preventing any dark depositing into the blonde and also will help restore the ends and your client will love that your doing this step to help the integrity of their hair. Towel dry the hair and section the hair, starting AT THE BOTTOM, apply your darkest root area. After applying all the roots, place a foil across the top of the head so when you do your sectioning, you won’t transfer any dark onto the light. Start applying the mid tone and swipe down thru the ends where it’s still brassy. With every section, comb with a wide tooth comb from roots to ends that way you will blend the tones together that ways you can’t see roots, miss, ends. It should just flow softly from dark to light.

      @@hairbykristijennings6648 I’m wanting to do the same with a dark root 1N, 4N mid, and ash blonde at the ends. Your response is confusing. Can you please simplify 😩 I want to do my hair tomorrow. Thank you in advance
      My natural hair is black. Should I bleach first, tone. Wash hair with shampoo. Start root shadows process. What’s the best order to go with the steps. I want a smooth transition but not get the black on the blonde ends.

    Amazing work, thanks for sharing. 🥰 How long did you leave processing the 2nd technique, before rinsing?

    First of all LOVE your video very helpful and you are so incredibly talented! Wish you could do my hair!
    I got two things:
    1. May be a dumb question but why do we mix level 6, 7, & 8 for the root tap?
    2) What did you use to tone the over all look for the second technique you did in the video?

    Both of these results are BEAUTIFUL! I'm a bit confused as to how the first root shadow looked darker than I'd expect from level 9 toners!

    Hey I’m doing this on a wig. It’s a level 9/10 but adding a level 3 roots and not sure how I can make the transition look as nice as possible without it looking too harsh ? Any advise you have will be greatly appreciated!

      Be really cautious and cover the ends in conditioner to prevent transfer.
      Start at the nape of the neck and work up, it's easier to not have to worry about clipping hair up and getting color on the ends.
      Take a wide tooth comb and comb totally thru the ends, every section or every other section. The comb won't pull it all the way thru the ends, but should help it gradually fade down. I hope this helps!

    Could you do a root shadow that has more dramatic demension? I've seen a lot of very light ash blondes with nearly black root shadows. Curious if you've been asked to do that?

    Any tips on how to go about rinsing it out when doing this at home? My fear is that it might mess up the very light ends or will it be ok if I just throw shampoo on right away or just rinse cold like a madman? Any tips? I just really don't want to mess up the nice light hair I just achieved. My hair wouldn't be able to handle bleach again anytime soon.
    Could I really just put some conditioner in the mids/ends to keep them from absorbing any color while rinsing or should it be ok to just apply and rinse through?
    I have some aphogee keratin treatment I could slap on, would make a nice treatment to leave it on the entire time the color is processing. (Not sure if it matters but I'm looking to do wella 7A demi and my hair is lvl 9/10

    • @hairbykristijennings6648
      @hairbykristijennings6648  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes either of those ideas sound good. Cold water keeps the hair cuticle closed and should prevent from absorbing the color better.

      @@hairbykristijennings6648 hi kristi, I actually ended up doing it the same day I wrote this, I used aphogee keratin treatment and added some cheaper conditioner so I wouldn't use so much, about 50/50 (I'm frugal) and slapped it on and it worked. Didn't bleed on my ends at all

    If my hair is all around blonde can I just use a darker toner that's the same ashiness on my roots as a root shadow?

  • @alimakingmyway3006
    @alimakingmyway3006 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very beautiful. I'm pregnant and trying to let my hair grow out but not look dirty and gross. I'm a level 6ash blonde naturally and my hair is a beige level 9/10 ish growing out and it looks greasy. I was thinking of doing a shadow root or lowlights but not sure which would be best.. any advice?

    • @hairbykristijennings6648
      @hairbykristijennings6648  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I find lots of people who are blonde growing their hair out think their hair looks greasy when in fact it's just dark in comparison and appears greasy. So maybe it's actually not that greasy? Also maybe get a less moisturizing shampoo/ conditioner. Blonde needs more moisture so maybe don't condition right at the root if you do?

    • @hairbykristijennings6648
      @hairbykristijennings6648  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would do a shadow root to blend? That usually helps alot

      @@hairbykristijennings6648 lol yeah I just meant it looks greasy growing out because the root to hair shaft ratio not actually greasy but yeah its pretty common.
