I would think the lens element can be put back at any position radially. (Only the convex/concave sides are important). But you even mark the radial position with the dot. But you know this business more than any body.
Brilliant information, I will prepare a clean room, wash well plus wear hair net etc, now I'm motivated to give this a go on my sigma 70mm to 200mm lens.
i just took my sigma 70 200 2.8 out of my bag for the first time in almost 2 years ....there's a nice big blotch of fungus on the front element and a small bit on the edge of the second, oh well i might have to try this,,,doesnt look to scary
Among so many other things, never EVER provide direct pressure from your fingers ! - Instead turn your sterile cleaning material into a little puff pillow. This assures that you're not applying too much pressure DOWN onto the coatings - What if a tiny particle is embedded in the tissue or still laying on top of the lens element? This is always a possibility unless you're in a 'Clean Room'. - Finally, you must always utilize a self standing High Intensity Lamp (brilliant LED also works) to continuously inspect every step of the re-install of elements & groups (he applied Loctite & never once inspected the optical path in this manner !). BTW : I've been a camera tech for over 35 years...
TOM C Thank's Tom, well there could be some fungus spores left somewhere in the lens body, but to get rid of that, I would have to fully disassemble the lens, so I think it's just better at the moment just clean those lens elements that was infected. Also because I don't have a repair manual for this lens.
I used this method on an old Sigma 18-200 DC. After managing to unscrew the ring from the back lens group - I couldn't get the lens out to clean the fungus in the end because they seem to also be held together by 3 microscopic screws...Any tips? Either way this was very helpful to make sure nothing broke in the process, thanks!

I'm trying to take out the front element of my sigma 70-200 EX DG 2.8 but it doesn't seem to be as easy as this and can't find any tutorials to help, have you any idea? thanks
Hi there. I cleaned the back element of a Zeiss 135mm f2 with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Do you think I damaged the lens coating? Before was a purple/blue cast now more blue. Definite change. If I recleaned with lighter fluid would any coating be resolved?
Now I also learn something new about lens coating and lens cleaning, by reading this article about Carl Zeiss lenses: www.zeisscamera.com/services_overhaul-cIIa-lenses.shtml And on this site: forum.mflenses.com/carl-zeiss-t-red-lenses-inner-soft-coating-t74386.html
Hello, Do you maybe know if it is possible to remove the front element of the earliest Sigma 70-200 F2.8 ? It does have a the ring with 2 slots at the front, but once that ring is removed, the glass will not 'fall' out, it remains sitting very tight in the barrel.
Thank you for the encouragement. I need to get some more tools before i start the job. 👍
Very very helpful. Now I will have a go. Thank you so much
Excelente video Maestro, se agradece siempre su enseñanza!, saludos cordiales!
Great video. Suddenly the task doesn't seem that daunting.
Thanks I just fixed my loose 50-500 with the help of your video. Going after front element fungus next 👍 thank you 😁

Hi, did any of the products he used ruin the coatings or not?
Thank you for sharing good video and very helpful information
Hi Kenneth; Great video as always. Would the cleaning of the lens also prevent future fungus attacks?

> Would the cleaning of the lens also prevent future fungus attacks?
No. Keeping the lens in a humid environment may cause fungus to reappear.
Opravujem vojenskú optiku. Postupy sú podobné akurát na čistenie optiky sa používa Ether solvens. Peroxid vodika používam 31%.
I have a Sigma 18-250 with this same problem but worst, it has more fungus stains and I haven't be ale to separate the lenses to clean them 😫😫
Hi.
Can you please do a fungus removal video on binoculars? Thanks.
(and maybe teach us how to align it afterwards without professional tools)
Good Tips- Thanks
Still watching... but where was this lens stored to get fungus at such an early age?
It was stored is a basement.
Do you prefer lighter fluid over isopropyl for cleaning regular dirt/oils from the lens elements?
In some cases I prefer lighter fluid, but it all depending what kind of "stuff" is on the lens element.

I have sigma 120-400mm. Middle glass have fungus..how to open?...plz suggest...thanx
I have a 170/500mm in the same place
6:58 mine has two floppy spacer rings. Why?
They're shims used to adjust spacing between elements. They add more or less at the factory to calibrate the lens.

For what do you use lighter fluid?
