  • This large water tank stood on the embankment north of Woodford Halse station and goods yards on the Ex Great Central London Extension to Marylebone.
It is one of the few building still remaining in this once massive railway centre. On the opposite side of the railway there was a brick works but next to nothing remains of that. Just to the north of the water tank was Charwelton Water Troughs. While nothing remans of them there are remains of the boiler and pump house building down the embankment side and the feed from the river Charwell to be seen.

Easily accessible? I'd love to visit this piece of history.

I always thought this was for the water troughs at Charwelton ?

No Charwelton had it's own water tank and plant. The water was heated during th Winter. You can still ee the remains of the Pump House and water intake rom the rive Cherwell close by.

The Charwelton troughs had their own water tower and pump house just to the north of the Woodford Yard's water tower. theatreorgans.com/hammond/keng/kenhtml/Charwelton%20To%20Woodford%20Halse%20Rlwy%20Walks/CharweltonStationSiteTowardsWoodfordHalse.htm

@@swipewrite Thankyou for that. I love stuff like this. I was exploring round this area in the summer of 1989, but of course nature has reclaimed so much of the railway since I was out that way. Thanks again
