    Thanks for the recap, Connor. I was definitely tracking you (and others) on the app and knew something was wrong. Absolutely sucks. This is what’s truly amazing about the marathon and why we crazy ones continue to come back to it! It’s a humbling experience, for sure, but I know you’ll bounce back and smash your PB before you know it! And congrats on the upcoming wedding!! Hope grad school is going smoothly as well. On to the next one… 🚀

    Thanks for posting this video. I was tracking your race and couldn’t figure out what happened. Your videos are a tremendous resource for others to learn from. Can’t wait to see what comes next.

    Just started a channel and also was hoping I’d have a good Chicago race to share. It also didn’t go well for me (I knew it was going to be hard with all my training issues over the summer) so I can relate. But I appreciate and have the utmost respect for the honesty and complete openness about your race experience. Much props and love the video anyway!

      Regardless, congrats on finishing Chicago! Best of luck with the channel and thanks for the kind words 😁

    Man, I know exactly what you mean and how you felt with the lemon lime Huma plus. I still use them but now I mix my gels up between BPN berry, maurten and Huma plus for that exact reason.
    Also, just because you didn’t meet your goal, you should still be very proud of yourself! The marathon is no joke at the end of the day. Even when training goes to plan, we can’t predict what will happen on race day. Love your channel and keep up the great work.

      Just tried some of the BPN gels on my long run today, and man, they were a breath of fresh air. Good call!

    I ran Chicago too. Was shooting for around 3:30 but ended up with 4:00. That was my 2nd marathon. I had similar issues, legs started feeling funny at mile 18 and then mile 20 I got hit with cramps. It was a walk jog those last 6 miles. I'm still learning things about my body. Taking a sweat test in a few days to make sure I'm taking in enough electrolytes. Loved the video and motivates me to keep training. You'll hit your goal soon!

      No better learning experience than a humbling, tough marathon. Way to finish still! Best of luck with your future training and racing 💪

    First of all, I’m sorry to hear your race experience didn’t go as planned, I had been following your game plan and had fairly similar time goals in mind so I was rooting for you.
    I had a VERY similar experience except I decided at mile 16 to start easing the pace and then eventually jogged in at around a minute below goal pace for the last 10 miles but felt almost identical pre-cramping symptoms to what you faced, thankfully I didn’t have to stop but definitely didn’t get the time I wanted either. I decided to jump into the Indianapolis marathon in just a couple weeks because it’s within driving distance and similar course to Chicago so I’m doing a rapid turnaround to get ready for that.

      Sorry to hear you had a similar scenario play out! It’s tough to have a months-long training block lead up to that kind of day, but like we’re all reminded: the marathon can be very humbling.
      It’s awesome to hear you’re bouncing back and running Indy! Seems like a great event and a solid opportunity to run fast. Best of luck out there 💪

    The marathon owes you nothing. That's the best takeaway. It's unfortunate it happened, but you still put in that work and you have the fitness. There's ALWAYS another marathon. Keep going!

    I passed for the same experience. At the 36km I had cramps and after that I only tried to arrive. I don't how to explain that, I was well trained and feeling very good.
    We have to be patience, these things happen. Now, it's time to rest and return stronger.
    Greetings from Brazil

    Man, u were rolling b4 the cramps. We were probably knocking down miles near each other but didn’t see ya. My splits were around 6:20-6:30 the whole marathon.

    The fitness is there, you PR'ed your half. Train for some shorter stuff, stack more cycles and crush it next fall.

      Definitely the plan going forward 👍. Taking recovery day by day. May or may not hop in another race before winter comes around before resetting everything and starting back up with some 5k/10k training.

    I was tracking ! I feel you. I would rather fade than have cramps. I’m also not into over stimulating big city marathons. All my local races are just so hilly 😂 keep at it! Sub 250 will happen .

    Sorry it didn’t go your way. It seriously sucks when the end is all suffering. Way to gut it out. Obviously had the fitness, but everything has to go right on the day to do it over 26.2. You’ll get another shot at it!

    I had the same issue with the stomach pain side stitch. It really sucks. The only pattern I could find is that I took too much bagels. What was the amount of bagel intake during training?

    • @HobbyJoggerElite
      @HobbyJoggerElite  7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I wish the fix was that easy for me! I always practice day-before carb loading for long runs throughout the training block, and bagels are a staple of that. Typically getting 500g - 600g of carbs on the day before my long efforts. Never had any issues with having bagels prior to training or racing before.

    • @Richard-lx3xk
      @Richard-lx3xk 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@HobbyJoggerElite Yeah I was thinking you are experienced enough to not do something new on/before raceday.
      In that case the only thing I can think about is a stomach bug. Or, I also wonder if you would've had the same experience in a smaller marathon. The overstimulation of the crowds can subconsciously mess with your breathing pattern.

    Sorry about your stomach issues. Was it the influx of cholesterol from the pizzeria food? I can’t imagine you eat that regularly.

    • @HobbyJoggerElite
      @HobbyJoggerElite  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@BamainMn haven’t given it much thought, but I doubt it. My fiancé is Italian and we eat A LOT of that type of food, especially on weekends and evenings prior to long runs. Haven’t encountered issues before, so who knows 🤷‍♂️
