Air Canada - up charging on the base tier - for now. I think it depends on how "Hidden" the extra fees are. IF they're offered on the booking website - and you're told that oversized and extra luggage fees will be incurred up front and how much they are. Then that's not a problem... IF they blindside passengers at the gate with the fees, that would be wrong. And if the mild mannered Canadians are willing to take it without complaint - the fees will be eventually applied to all tiers.
basically AC is saying look westjet is doing it so we can do it when they know full well that AC is on a different tier of company. I have always said it, AC is a full service company, charges like one, that treats it's customers worst than ryanair.
Agreed. AC charges eye popping prices and then, at the last minute, switches your flight to being operated by Rouge, where legroom is non existent for people taller than 5'9".
Air canada: "larger" is no needed. the actual text: "Air Canada Economy Basic fare tickets purchased on or after January 3, 2025, will no longer include carry-on baggage. Customers will only be permitted to bring one (1) personal article when travelling:" It isn't clear to me how this will be handled at the gate where "basic" passengers will have to be checked to see if they paid for their hand luggage or not and if not, ding them for $65 for last minute baggage checking. So no longer just a scan of boarding pass and wait for the positive "beep" to let them through.
Air Canada has just gone wako, extremely high fares with poor service and now even another additional fee? Exploiting customers will not change your financial outlook to good but further more, it will erode specifically your economy class customers who will look for alternatives to fly
Boeing has the same number of employees as they did in 2011-2012 and is delivering fewer aircraft than they did in 2012. In fact it’s almost half. They definitely have too many employees right now and productivity is an issue.
Hiring excessive workers and firing them just before Christmas is a sign of a good management. Every company should do that to prove their shareholders they are following the rules of capitalism.
@ You’re obviously being facetious, however you don’t know the terms of severance, the timeline or anything about the reduction in employment. Furthermore, Boeing lost $6 billion in the last quarter. If they don’t fix the situation and increase productivity immediately there will be 160,000 more people out of work very soon.
@jwholmes2 Losing $6 is not workers' fault. Management makes huge mistakes and takes millions of dollars (see Muilenburg, see Calhoun) and workers are paying for the real bill. Severance? Do you believe that an American company would pay a decent severance? And what severance can compensate losing their jobs just before Christmas? You can be as cruel as Boeing management to understand, but at least try to imagine if they waited for 1 month.
Its what all of the completion worldwide do for Base Fare tickets. Low cost airlines are famous for adding fees to your ticket price, for anything & everythig, even down to a simple drink of water.
Air Canada is one of the least friendly airlines I’ve flown and since I don’t live in Canada it’s been easy to avoid them. Another I do the same with is British Airways. And I don’t fly no frills carriers either except for Ryan occasionally if necessary.
All addons, not just airline charges just piss everyone off, just add the charge into the back of the product cost, people don't see it and its just the cost of the plane ticket.
Westjet also charges for carry on when you go with their cheapest UltraBasic ticket. Then people go to the airport and yell at staff saying it's the worst airline when they clearly ignored multiple pop up saying what is NOT included with the Basic ticket during the online purchasing process.
As a Canadian, I avoid Air Canada whenever possible. Regardless of the class booked, they are a garbage airline, through and through. Breathtaking indifference toward customers and arrogance are cornerstones of their corporate culture.
@ WestJet isn’t an option for me, because they pretty well abandoned central and eastern Canada, except for the big cities. But, yes, I do like Porter and fly them when possible.
The Globe and Mail, recently wrote an article in defence (surprisingly) of Air Canada’s position regarding its recent changes and it all boils down to the government’s ludicrous taxation of the aviation industry in Canada. The minister’s comments are quite frankly offensive and hypocritical. She should further examine what happens when you tax a company/industry more and more, it inevitably gets passed down to the customers. Unfortunately this is the current state of affairs in Canada, where instead of promoting business and general success we chose to tax you until you are unsuccessful. 😢
It’s not a controversy with AC, every Canadian airline has been charging for carry on bags for years and other airlines have done so outside of Canada. Passengers will always find things to make a issue of, so many passengers brings 3 or 4 carry on bags just for one person hence why airlines charge so there is enough space for everyone in the overhead bins
Porter doesn't but regardless AC built the price of carry-ons into their prices and now they will charge extra. BTW, I've never seen ANYONE with 3 or 4 carry on bags.
Passengers have proven (with their $) that they want to have the 'build it yourself' travel options. Lowest Possible Price for just the trip. Then Pay for What you want on top of that (baggage; space; food; etc). Seems clear and fair. But some folks prefer the 'Everything for Nothing' business model - (unless they happen to own or work for a company selling to the public. D'oh. ;-))
I love emirates so much nice Oz is lucky. but I pray every day they give Canada a new A380. EK241 to yyz is literally the worst and the oldest of their whole fleet including first class was the worst I saw or experienced. It was such an abomination.
They’re not hidden fees. AC is following suit with the rest of the big legacies who are offering cheap seats on their aircraft versus going with an ULCC. Think of it as a deconstructed ticket price. Or everything is ala carte like McDonalds was before combo meals.
I hope Boeing goes under tbh. Their Karma is coming on half of others lives. Less workers will help in all their terrible decisions? This will compound problems. So good night. Bye. Adios. Make room for literally anyone with actual integrity. I wouldn’t even care if airbus owned it all at this point.
It dovetails right in with Air Canada’s corporate motto: “We’re not happy until you’re not happy”!

They’re not charging for carry ons. If you book the lowest fare then you can’t bring a carry on bag regardless of whether or not you pay
@@Travel-With-David Not from 03 Jan, then you have to pay for luggage and check it in. Only allowed to bring your purse.
@ yeah that’s not a carry on charge. A carry on charge is what Ryan air or easy jet does which is allowing you to take your carry on board for a fee.
basically AC is saying look westjet is doing it so we can do it when they know full well that AC is on a different tier of company. I have always said it, AC is a full service company, charges like one, that treats it's customers worst than ryanair.

2 videos for the price of 1
DJ could make an entire video about a single pillow on a single plane.
beyond annoying all that babbleing over nothing.

Air Canada is absolute trash and their soft product is pathetic even in J.
Thank you for sharing this great news.😊

@AbdullahNajib-b9z So? It proves my point. Airbus also needs to show their shareholders that they are doing inhumane things to protect their money.

In answer to your hypothetical question, just check out the salaries of Air Canada executives, and how they have changed.
All addons, not just airline charges just piss everyone off, just add the charge into the back of the product cost, people don't see it and its just the cost of the plane ticket.
Boeing can also cut the offer of aircraft to save costs - Paulo Coelho.
Emirates flyes A380 to Copenhagen from 1 January.
Third emirates to Melbourne!

I think all carry on luggage should be charged for
6:57 My question was about AC was is carry on free?
Air Canada will offer lower prices for the new "basic fair". You can still purchase the old basic fair with 2 carry on.
17,000 BOEING, BOEING, .... GONE$ !!!
And it's Christmastime too ! NOT GoOD. Obvious Corporate GREED & STUPIDITY.

I paid no charge on my last base fare ticket for my AC flight to Toronto for my carry-on, so I have no idea what you're talking about.

No Boeing Max and great service - try Porter.
why no max
no boeing what max?
777 max?or maybe 747 max?
you can't even tell which family the max comes from so I do not think you should be worried
