  • For the first time on a proper bagger, the BMW R18B is an eye opening motorcycle for someone who has never ridden a big American style cruiser. Definitely a bike that has left a lasting impression on me and now I want one.

Money well spent, if anyone can afford one of these things to ride!! As you pointed out it's the experience that counts and the addiction to the huge torque of that blessed engine!

It was quite an eye opening experience to ride something like this, I have to say I really liked it! Now I want to try out the Road Glide and the latest Goldwing to compare :)))

I owned the early version of the Goldwing, and I’ve ridden the Harley bagger. At this point in my life, I don’t want to ride a heavy bike anymore. I’m sticking to the scooters. I do think the BMW is a cool bike.

After a while I can understand getting bored of them, but I'm just discovering them so for me they are a novelty :D

Just picked up my R 18B this weekend and I love it! Here in the states you can get a barely used one between $14,000 - $17,000 fully loaded. Although they are well built and beautiful motorcycles, it's just not selling in the US therefore the dealers have discounted them as an incentive to get people even to look at them. To be honest, Harley Davidson overall makes a better motorcycle and has such a devoted following so I just think BMW will not be able to establish itself within the cruiser/touring market. Keep on rockin' my Romanian brothers!

Thanks for the appreciation. I would like to see the R18 be a succes but I did hear they are not selling well.

Thanks for some really interesting videos. I understand your home country-Romania- has some really beautiful sights and many historical buildings. It would be really helpful if you could do a leisurely- perhaps 7 day- tour suggesting a route and places to stay for visitors from the UK and Northern Europe. Nothing too frantic so the visitors can stop off and explore from time to time. I guess you would need to start and finish from the North West of Romania. Your honest opinion of hotels is always helpful too for people looking to emulate your travels. Keep up the good work.

Did a testride on the R18 in Germany on the Autobahn. 150km/h felt like 50..... Beautiful and very comfortable bike! The adaptive cruise controll took a bit of getting used to. The only downsides for me where the boxer engine (I need to be able to stretch my legs, bad knees) and the pricing. I sadly will never be able to afford that bike :( . If I could...... I would by it in a heartbeat!

Fun watching you ride the 18B, Alex, (a year after the fact?), no worries, we’re good!👍🏻Too big for this old man, love the rumble better ‘n a Harley, (my opinion). Signaling is a good thing, (good for you). Best, Rola (Oregon / USA).

You make me want to ride an R18 now. I strongly encourage you to test ride a R1100R. Same engine as your GS, but in a different coat. You would be extremely impressed with how the RT handles the wind and cold. I was shocked that a 1990's bike could be so good, even compared to new models.

I've been riding Harley-Davidson for a while, but I'm interested in the R18B and I'm having trouble with it
When I test drove it, I liked the light handling, engine feel, and natural position
I thought that the presence of the engine was weak compared to the Harley I used to ride
I noticed that the shift pegs were short and difficult to operate
I really liked it except for the small details.
Is it comfortable to drive at high speed?

    • @RideWithAlex
      @RideWithAlex  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

On my test it was comfortable but depends what you're used to. I'm not used to big bikes like this so what feels comfortable to me may be uncomfortable to you. You really should try to get a proper test ride in.

Even though I like the idea of a big touring machine, sometimes it seems that's way too much technology in some of these modern motorcycles. They went through a process of car-ification. I don't mind having the safety systems at all, but that big-ass screen in the middle of the bars is simply hideous. But it's just my idea, I'm being subjective.

    • @RideWithAlex

@@RideWithAlex Not gonna lie, probably it offers you any information you need and it is very useful. I could live with it on an adventure motorcycle, but on this cruiser / bagger looks out of place. But probably that's just the poorness inside me talking. 😂😂😂
