@@jandomenechvayreda. Thank you Jan. I will certainly be listening to you on your channel and also all the other members of the marvellous SAJB. We have had so much pleasure through the years and seen you all grow up into very fine musicians. I've got all the CDs/DVDs relating to the SAJB and during the Sant Andreu Jazz Festival in September 2019 (great experience for me) had interesting conversations with many of you. Then Covid came and ruined everything, and we couldn't visit our favourite city of Barcelona in 2020. Lets hope that the vaccines work and life can come back to something like normal later this year and I would love to come to the Jazz Festival in September if it takes place and I'm still around. In the meanwhile, we have TH-cam and all the CDs/DVDs to keep the memories alive. Good luck to all of you.

That was fabulous. Initially I was disappointed that Joan did not have Ignasi Terraza on piano but wow, Jan Domenech blew it away.
Gotta give Janna chance as brilliant as Ignasi is.

Wow! Wow! Wow! This is why you have 100 million views. Piano played masterfully but what gets my attention is the up beat accents by the drummer during the piano solo. And dick oats!!! Wow!!! Absolute perfection!! I! Love! It!!!

Beautiful rendition of an age old jazz standard.The pianist is hot with a zippy jazz expression. Scot Hamilton does a real number expressing himself as a true saxophonist with each chorus . I liked the drummer. Chamorro you are indispensable. Would have liked to hear piano, drums and sax share fours. Bravo!

Querido Joan, dos ponderaciones: 1) Jan Domenech ha avanzado muchísimo comparado con unos pocos años atrás (me recuerdo que en aquellos momentos tocaba algo temeroso; ahora todo lo contrario, se soltó) y 2) sonido de grabación excelente (en especial el contrabajo que resalta -ejecución extraordinaria del Maestro mediante- ), que mejora en extremo la ejecución. Yes, it was at the start. Dick's ears gradually adjusted as the tune progressed. Great performance, especially Jan!
like Jackie, has edginess part of his interpreting the changes with great playing.
Maybe a little less Dickie Oatts would have been better, but Jan Domènech is absolutely fantastic, and so is David Xirgu! That guy on the bass isn't bad either. All in all, very nice.

Neevening Joan, at 2:33 i see, what hard work it is, to play such a big bass-guitar, uhhh 1 2 3 4, uhhh 1 2 3 4, what a huge passage, another 1 2 3 4 ...even you, i like also the drummer! He has a very tasty feeling, but the pianist should be better a spanish arena man...
I would have preferred it without the sax, the piano/bass/ drums had it in the pocket.
Sorry to say that, but why have I got the impression that the sax is slightly out of tune - Jan seems to think so, too (1:11). For the last part Dick seems to have fixed it. Hats off to Jan - great piano-work! And of course the outstanding upright bass played by Joan, not to forget David on drums who does a fine job, too.

Alt sax seems not always in tune.
Yes, he starts out a tad sharp and seems to soon get into reasonable perameters but stays on top of it throughout. Loved it.
Needed half the tenor and twice the p[iano.
Dick was playing alto...no tenor. And an excellent alto indeed!
@@jefft022 Dick came in really sharp! And Jan couldn't ignore it. Dick got into it in short order. Great piece.
At 4:02 Jan start to play in a hotter way, but the drummer doesn't support him at all, he keeps playing as in a play-along video. Esteve Pi was ways better, knowing when swinging hard and giving the exact level of support to the soloists. A part that, great rendition of the tune, nice solos, great ideas despite this dead fish drummer.
Nothing wrong with it, every drummer has their own style, there is no fixed way to play in jazz. David Xirgu is an award-winning musician who played with numerous other well-known musicians for decades. Some comments below praised his drumming.
@@DMD5609 I don't care if he's award winner, it's just an authority argument, thus non valid. In this case, he let Jan alone when he was trying to put some fire to the tune, which is the worst thing to do. He played like a functionary in an administration, without any feeling. In a real pro situation, he wouldn't achieve the tour.

@@derekjohnson8859 Nothing to see with this case. In a chorus , the team mates have to follow and help the soloist. If he decides to play harder and/or louder, with more notes, more harmony and the drummer stays quiet, the band doesn't work as a team, and the soloist stays "alone and naked in the middle of the street". In a pro situation, a drummer not accompanying the flow wouldn't last long... It would be felt for what it is , a lack of real interest about the soloist and a somewhat disrespectful attitude for his playing.
