A Short Fairy Tale
「The Little Miracle of fule」 part 2
In the town of fule, every year at the end of the harvest festival, there is a special ritual known as the "Fire of Gratitude." At the end of autumn, the townspeople gather to collect the most beautiful autumn leaves and sit around a bonfire. It is said that when words of gratitude are offered to the fire, a mysterious power is bestowed upon them.
・Kiu and Nana
Kiu, a young girl living in fule, looked forward to this ritual every year. Kiu had lost her parents when she was young and had been living with her grandfather ever since. Her grandfather often said, "Gratitude is not just about words; it must be felt in the heart and shown through actions." Kiu carried this lesson with her every day, always remembering to express her gratitude to those around her.
Kiu's best friend, Nana, was also an orphan. However, Nana found it difficult to express her feelings of gratitude and often wore an anxious expression. She was particularly worried as the ritual drew near, always looking uneasy.
This year, as the day of the harvest festival approached, the town square was filled with colorful autumn leaves, ready for the Fire of Gratitude. Kiu was excited for the event, but she noticed that Nana seemed quieter than usual and didn't seem as energetic.
・Nana’s Worry
"Kiu, what's wrong?" Kiu asked as she noticed Nana’s downcast expression. Nana lowered her head slightly and replied, "I can't say the words of gratitude... Saying 'thank you' from the heart feels so difficult for me."
Kiu gently took Nana’s hand and smiled. "Nana, gratitude isn't just about words. Even if you can't put it into words, if you feel it in your heart, that's what matters most."
Nana looked up, listening carefully to Kiu’s words, but the anxiety still lingered in her eyes. Kiu noticed this and continued, "Even if you can't find the right words, our actions are the most important thing. When the Fire of Gratitude is lit, what we feel and what we want to do will speak louder than words."
Nana thought for a moment and then nodded with a relieved expression. "Okay, Kiu. Thank you."
・The Fire of Gratitude
On the day of the festival, the town square was filled with people happily gathering. Colorful autumn leaves were arranged, and the Fire of Gratitude was lit. Kiu and Nana were among those in the circle. People took turns placing their leaves on the fire and whispering words of thanks.
Kiu placed her leaf in the fire, her heart full of gratitude. "Thank you for my precious family and friends," she said. Her words echoed through the quiet night sky, and those around her watched with warm smiles.
Then, it was Nana’s turn. She felt a little nervous, but with Kiu watching her kindly, she took a leaf, turned toward the fire, and quietly said, "…Thank you."
Her words were soft, but they rang out strongly in the square, and the air around them seemed to warm, enveloping everyone in a gentle embrace. In that moment, Nana felt as though her gratitude had been shaped and sent out into the world. Then, a warm breeze blew through, and a brilliant light from the fire rose into the sky.
・The Miracle of Light
That night, a strange event occurred in the town of fule. As the Fire of Gratitude soared into the sky, a star-like light appeared and slowly began to circle the town, shining brightly. The light enveloped the entire town, and a warm, radiant curtain descended over everyone. Kiu and Nana gazed up at the scene, feeling deep gratitude in their hearts.
"This is the power of gratitude," Kiu said, smiling.
Nana also looked at the shining light, feeling a warm sense of gratitude expanding in her heart. "Yeah… Thank you, Kiu," she said. This time, her words were filled with sincere, heartfelt gratitude.
That night, the town of fule was filled with an abundance of blessings and happiness, more than it had ever known. The townspeople gave thanks for the miracle and closed the year with warm hearts.
