My grandfather showed me a bootleg VHS copy of this. This, X2, Emperor's new grove, and night at the museum are the only movies ever able to see with him while he was alive. I still have fun memories of this even though I know it's bad
I was kind of sad this Dr. Stange didn't cameo in multi verse of madness as like a wiser and older dr. stranger . The actor is still alive and I think it would have been nice story him, since he's been a struggling actor all his life, probably always wanting to be in a big movie, and finally being Abel to get that oppuirnity would have been a nice way to book end his life. Could have done some sort of arch were it's realized that MCU Steven strange still needs to grow or is missing something that will lead him to his full poteitonal or something like that
It's always great to revisit these Bad movies to see how far we've come with the Marvel properties, I do the same now for video game adaptations from time to time.
I just realized that the very ending could have been attached to multiverse of madness. Basically 78 Strange looks over and sees something shocking and as the cgi deepfake camera turns toward what he sees there is either Benedict cumberbatch asking him to come with him or some other mcu character, possibly even loki coming out of a portal to ask for groovy stranges help.
Marvel on CBS in the 1970s was kinda phenomenal. Hulk & Spider-Man each had a series. Captain America had a couple of tv movies. But Dr. Strange as an tv movie and potential pilot had a bold approach. It was very dark and weird. But it made me want to read Dr. Strange comics.
there was gonna be a crossover tv movie back in the mid 80's that would have featured both the tv hulk and tv spiderman team-up. it was almost all set to go except there was one major snag. Lou Ferrigno was busy making a Cannon movie called Hercules and what worst. no one told him jack about the whole thing.
Jessica Walter was in a huge amount of stuff throughout her career, including the 1966 racing film "Grand Prix" with James Garner but probably her best known role is as the crazy stalker in "Play Misty For Me" (1972) starring Clint Eastwood.
25:10 Ominous staring with sound effects was kind of a thing back then for horror movies about psychic powers. In The Omen and The Fury, it actually kind of worked, because it would cause something crazy to happen! A carnival ride would collapse, a bunch of crows would claw someone's eyes out. Here, nothing is happening, lol
Yeah, a lot of people today don't realize how hard they actually tried to kick off the MCU (or MTVU) in the late 70s. Hulk, Captain America, Doc Strange, Spiderman... But they all kind of looked like those 70s Mego dolls, the costumes never quite fit right...
I saw this in the 70`s & didn`t hate it. I was simply glad that they even made a comics adaption at all. It was cheap television, so I gave it a pass. Doctor Mordrid, with Jeffrey Combs, was a sort of unofficial adaption of Doctor Strange.
