Brother Says Goodbye to Soulmate Sister, VLOG, Mom & Son, Jorde/Madsen
Logan Madsen, an artist, had to say goodbye to his soulmate sister, Heather, a writer, on July 23, 2021. Our hope is that by sharing the closure Logan received from seeing his sister's body after her passing, others will be able to better decide if they want to see their loved one's body after they pass.
Heather and Logan's relationship wasn't typical as they were both born with 2 rare syndromes: 1. Miller syndrome, only 30 people in the world, makes their bodies look very different than normal bodies, especially their arms, hands, ears, and faces, and causes chronic pain because it affects the formation of bones and muscles. This made their connection closer than most of us could ever imagine. 2. the severe lung disease, primary ciliary dyskinesia, PCD, which has threatened their lives as long as we can remember...since birth.
We were gifted 44 1/2 years with Heather and are grateful!

Debbie's family became the first family ever to have their entire DNA sequenced and the first family documented to have two children born with Miller syndrome, which affects only 30 people worldwide.
KSL News reporter, John Daley, interviewed Dr. Lynn Jorde, Chairman of the Human Genetics Department at the U of U School of Medicine and President of the American Society of Human Genetics for 2011 about sequencing the entire genome of his wife, Debbie Jorde, and her children, Heather and Logan Madsen.
Scientists found the gene that causes Miller syndrome and also the gene that causes Heather and Logan's lung disease, Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) answering their 33-year-old question, "Why did this happen?" Heather is a writer. Some of her writings are published in "Eight Fingers and Eight Toes." Logan Madsen is an artist.
