The only issue I have with the argument against DEI is people tend to do the same thing the leftists do, which is percieve everything as woke or DEI, the problem with this is people will see legitimately good candidates as nothing more than diversity hires. Pointing it out isn't bad but constantly doing it, hurts prospects for members in certain groups because now a company may be weary of hiring a capable black or hispanic person, and hire a white or asian person who may not even have the skills or experience. I'm not arguing against it obviously, but people being reactionary about every ad having a non-white person, or seeing a female cop can be as annoying as when leftists get mad about the lack of diversity in a field or media.
There is a TH-camr named Kirsche and she has looked a lot into DEI in corporations. She has found many companies are moving to a thing called BRIDGE as away to hide DEI by using different language. Also talks a lot about gaming.
They are trying to be fair like how kids scream things are unfair only when they feel like the situation is not in their explicit advantage. They were never objectively trying to be fair
I work in a logistik company. And I can clearly see that the average competence level is going down because of popular concept that we need to promote women into leadership roles. That causes a lot of manager positions occupied by people without any leadership skills. That brings to toxic positivity policy, when we are avoiding calling out our mistakes. We are always "doing a great job" & we are all "fantastic teams". No one is willing to take ownership to make hard decisions for improving business. But. Even though I don't like the way DEI policies are implemented, I think that there is a misconception on what it really is. Theoretically its not about taking bad candidates (pilots). Its about taking into consideration the amount of different groups in your team. In practice, you have 10-50 candidates to the job application. And usually you have 3-5 top candidates with similar skills levels. This is when you can apply DEI to pick the one of same competence. Unfortunately have to agree that this is not how it works in real world. Thanks for the video. Always enjoy.
Although I disagree with your source to use as stance against DEI. Atleast I was able to hear a side without someone screaming woke 24/7 with no sources. As for dragon age I’m more left leaning so the scene seemed to be something people Who identify as “they” could relate too. Simple joke that prolly made them laugh. I’m long time Dragon age fan too I haven’t played this one yet but I will be . Hey if everyone can give Baulders Gate 3 a try , I can give this game a try too. They have elements of what grifters speak of.(no im not comparing the two , BSG3 is in its own rank one of the best rpg for this generation of gaming )
Wait! this argument is flawed... On a high level, this argument seems legit because we assume merit to be objective. But, in most cases it is not. Different people are from different backgrounds and their access to education, mentorship and lots of other things vary a lot. And there's another whole thing around systemic inequalities and making up for it in the current generation etc. If we're just gonna limit our scope and context and look at a single company's hiring process for a single role - it isn't unfair either. Here's my argument: We usually perceive opportunities to be finite and that isn't true. New opportunities prop up all the time. I think this perception is what makes DEI feel like it's unfair. And we gotta acknowledge that these tech giants are in fact corporations and they run for profits. The last time I checked the balance sheets, these companies make net profits of around 20 billion dollars per quarter. Even if we assume that these companies hire incompetent people for job roles because of DEI (which I think is not true because even if they hire someone citing DEI, they gotta have a baseline competency. If it's true, I think that's just a poorly implemented DEI), they totally do that because it benefits them. There's a thing called employee retention. Even if we take out the DEI factor out, companies might opt to hire a less competent person for the job role because they're gonna stay in the company for a long time and possibly take a lesser salary. So, imo this is a very tunnel visioned take on DEI. And my goodness, people should stop assuming that these companies are woke. They do stuff because it works for them. They're not some god sent saviours. Capitalism ftw! And btw, I really like your no bs approach towards reviewing gadgets. Thanks for that! TLDR: Capitalism isn't fair to anyone!
capitalism is the fairest system we have bro, its called the free market.. DEI is racist and sexist, it picks people based on race and whats between their legs
DEI isnt working, so they aint doing it cos its working, standards have dropped in every field over the last couple of decades at least.. gender/race quotas are discriminatory and so inherently unfair, u communist plank
