This song was originally a collaboration between Lupe Fiasco and Guy Sebastian. It still amazes me that Guy took Lupe's words & made this version where he sings the whole song.
If you like runs Guy can do them in his sleep. As his got older it seems he's learnt to find certain spots rather than throughout the song. Some of his performance from the 1st Australian Idol show this. He went on to win.

You got his name spot on. Many years ago now...I was watching the auditions of the first season of Australian Idol with my mum (RIP) and he steps up. Me: "What's Guy from the cricket club doing auditioning?" I had no idea he could sing, all I knew, was that he was an enthusiastic, albeit rubbish cricketer.

Also some other great Aussie performers are John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes, or Farnsey and Barnsey as we call them. John is known as The Voice in Australia. I'm watching these in the wrong order (just watched 'Help'), you are getting into the big hitters today. Guy is so good, his music is really varied, from big beautiful emotional ballads, to R&B, to quirky fun pop, I don't think there's anything of his you wouldn't enjoy to be honest. Anyway, thanks for kickstarting my day with a smile once again, I can always rely on you for that. ❤
Guy is a natural performer with an exceptional voice. I remember him on Australian Idol and now he's a coach on The Voice. His version of "The Prayer" with his winner Bella is beautiful (actually watch Bella Taylor Smith sing "Ave Maria" and "The Voice Within". She has the voice of an angel. Truly sublime)
Guy is just an amazing singer/songwriter who on top of everything a really nice bloke. Has some cracking songs

Guy is fantastic, this song is usually a duet with Lupe Fiasco. Guy sings his parts here. The original is great, but the rawness of this performance is so much more emotional. Any song by Guy is fantastic. Looking forward to seeing you discover more!

You nailed it with the breathing. THAT is the most remarkable part of this version of Guy's song. He never seems to do the song quite the same way each time. He has that incredible ability to make fine adjustments for the moment. One of the rare singers who is as good, if not better, live. Note perfect, and yes, he can also rap if he wants, although he is not a rapper. Listen to his medley on the Voice to hear him rapping. Brilliant. Thanks for your reactions. Oh, and Guy's song writing ability is the most underrated part of his career. WORLD class writer and singer.

@@steveacfield6131 That's true. That's not his path, but I think there are many paths and they don't all have to be sleaze. Also, that was 10 years ago - and it's clear he spoke to the wrong guy from the wrong label! If that twit had spent just 10 seconds looking at Guy's history he'd have known that was entirely the wrong approach.
Guy has a Faith, but he's not one for shoving his beliefs down anyone's throat. Many of his songs carry more generic humanitarian and social issues themes. It may also be about timing. I believe there are a hell of a lot of people who are sick to death of all the soft porn hyper-sexualised garbage. There's certainly room for someone with immense talent, who is a master lyricist and songwriter, who has integrity and self respect AND who can sing like a God! 😊
