There are plenty of great chefs in the UK. In our (italian) alphabet the H is “mute”. That means we don’t pronunce it at all. When we borrow from foreign languages a word like “hotel”, we just say “otèl”. So “Harper” in Italian is “àrper”. But since we want to sound very “english”, 😳 we just add a big “hhh” before every english word beginning with a vowel. 😁 Thus, hEva, hEnglish, hAdam; but (h)uge, (h)and, (h)orrible; hand (whoops) so hon. 😂

@@letsgomets002 Well I haven't been to America, I'm Australian/Italian and live in Italy. I'm sure there is good Italian food in America. However, unfortunately from what I see on tv and TH-cam, it doesn't look that way when I see Italian American's making "Traditional Italian Dishes" in a way that would make a native Italian have coniptions. Italian food is all about using what little you have, that's the genius of it. Over the top amounts of garlic and cheese, butter and cream etc, and adding multiple ingredients to dishes that don't belong there, however, are another thing all together. I'm sure when you go to people's homes it would be something closer to what I'm used to in my Australian/Italian family and much closer to authentic Italian food, which outside of Italy I really don't think exists to he honest. Anyway, that's what I meant about people bastardising Italian food.

@@ssr6036 One of the big reasons for that has more to do with the immigrant experience than Americans inherently bastardizing anything. You had a lot of rather poor people moving to a country where things that were previously expensive and used sparingly were suddenly widely available and much less expensive. So you tend to see a resulting increase in the use of meat, cheese, cream, butter, etc. in a wide variety of cuisines. Rather than ruining traditional dishes it was a way to celebrate in the prosperity of a new life.
Over time those dishes have themselves become traditional. No, they're not traditional to the origin of the dish, but they have a long history within the US due to the influence of those earlier immigrants resulting in a new fusion cuisine. So for most Americans they're more familiar with Italian-American cooking than actual Italian. Although when you deal with cultures like Italy or Mexico or even the US you're dealing with a vast region filled with significant cultural and culinary differences depending on where you go.
