Quick question, can the colors of fighters costumes be changed? I ask this because in MK 11, I would mess with my friends by switching the ninja fighters colors around and I found it was a good way to confuse them. Make them think I was playing a fighter that wasn’t even in the game. For example, when playing a Scorpion, I had a green outfit on and my friend thought I was playing Reptire.
Without giving away too much, NeatherRealm Studios really needs to pick a lane and stay in it. I enjoyed a lot of story mode but man did it go completely off the rails by the end. Its like they cant decide what they truly want to do with this series. Thankfully the game is still fun to play.
You have to look at it for what it’s supposed to be and where it’s going..The story mode of course isn’t gonna please everybody, but it’s no way you didn’t get hype at the ending..I have a feeling the next story mode is gonna be peak MK storytelling

Agreed. I loved the story for the first few hours, but once they revealed that the mysterious villain pulling strings was just another Shang Tsung from another timeline, it went downhill fast. The final chapter devolved into a Rick and Morty episode.

Even if i love the new roster and i wouldnt change anything about it, i noticed, that there is no completely new fighter, as i remember, first time in MK history. MK9 had skarlet, MKX has the kombat kids, MK11 has geras, kollector, cetrion. Don't know if this will help but I'll try. Kia was one of Quan Chi's 3 servants in Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero along with her sisters(?) Sareena, and Jataaka. They were in the Konquest mode of MK: Armageddon though none were playable characters. Hey, I come for the reviews and try to help when I can. The enjoyment factor is always there. BTW, "Hi, Patches!"
Man I'm with you, Mortal Kombat isn't just my favorite fighting game franchise, it is one of my absolute favorite game franchises, like you said one of my favorite media franchises. I have a huge attachment to this world and these characters and 30 years worth of lore and storytelling Because they are wiping that slate totally clean and doing some drastically different things with these characters I already wasn't super excited to see that, especially because they are rewriting some of my favorites, hell they are rewriting my all-time favorite. That and then seeing that it was taking cues from team/assist fighters with the Kameo system I was further disappointed in the direction of the game. So this is ultimately probably the least hyped I've ever been for a new mainline Mortal Kombat entry, and yes I'm including MK versus DC in that But I've been seeing that it's pretty solid overall, and no matter what there was no way I was going to just write it off, instead it was more like thinking maybe I would wait until Black Friday or Christmas to check it out on a sale, especially since there's so much else out there to play right now and my backlog as usual is enormous But the game is reviewing really solidly, and there are some things that I'm definitely intrigued about in the more and more I hear about it the more and more it's harder not to whip out the credit card and download this thing onto my PS5 Overall I didn't think I would dislike it or anything, I just have a feeling it's not going to take its place amongst my top favorites, but I'm more than open to be pleasantly surprised
Really great break down of what’s new and what’s gone without spoiling the story mode. I’m hoping Invasion Mode is the start of something big. I miss the mini games and extra stuff from the 3D Era. MK was always fun but that stuff just sent me into the stratosphere. Reptile and Baraka are my boys and I’ve had so much fun playing as them. I’m excited to see where this is going and I hope the timeline stuff is concluded and we can move on to the Realms being the sole focus. Much like MK9, I didn’t notice any new characters which is fine. I’m still bummed Cassie and Jacqui seem to no longer be in this timeline. I liked the Kombat kids. Jax, Sonya and Kano had a lot of focus previously and I hope they return in the next game. Hanzo being gone too feels surreal. Brave move to take the most recognizable character and put him away for awhile. I do like the more focused story on Liu Kang, Raiden and Mileena. Good shit, Ian. Excited for all the MK1 videos coming down the timeline. Timeline.
Huge fan of Reptile since Mortal Kombat 1 (the real first one) The whole secret character thing and how to find him was amazing. One of the first ever legit hidden characters in gaming history. He took hella L’s after but he looks amazing in MK1.
Here's my take one the game: It's mixed. As for the gameplay, I love it. It feels great. I was sceptical on the kameo system, and even though I'm still not 100% sold on it, I'm enjoying it. My problems with the game: It's SERIOUSLY lacking in content. In addition to story mode, arcade mode and online, the last game also had towers of time, the Krypt and AI battles. This game just has Invasion, which is also a little underwhelming. MK11 also had skins, customizable intro and victory animations, and 3 pieces of gear per character. MK1 just has skins, shaders and 1 customizable piece of gear. There's no dialogue before fights, which seems like a weird oversight. Then there's the story. It started off strong, then about 3/4 of the way through, it became a rehash of MK11 with characters fighting doppelgangers from another timeline. The final chapter devolved into a Rick and Morty episode.
Dude... When you said Mileena and Kitana have never looked hotter, I felt that. Thats all I wanted to say. Great video and great game. I cant wait for the future of mk1.
While Mortal Kombat 9-11 are reimagined versions of the first four Mortal Kombat games, Mortal Kombat 12 is a reimagined version of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Mortal Kombat Deception and Mortal Kombat Armageddon, all fused into one game with a trace of Avengers Endgame as Prime Shang Tsung (the one from Mortal Kombat 11) going to Liu Kang’s timeline and destroy it just to spite Liu Kang, making him the meanest heel in Mortal Kombat history and an all out battle erupts between the heroes and the villains known in the Mortal Kombat lore. Also, Alan Lee, Shang Tsung’s new VA, does a good job of replicating Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa’s performance.
I’m really enjoying the game. I felt the last set of fights in the story was really cool and hope we could play with some of those characters. I was surprised tho how easy the final fight was
I remember finding your channel around the release of MK11 when you had around 2k subs or so if I remember correctly. I vaguely remember what I commented back then but it was something along the lines of "don't forget me when you hit a million subs" something like that lol. Im so happy to see how much the channel has grown!
I love your breakdown of this new MK game, as I felt the same way that you did. I wasn't really that pumped for another timeline plot, and I also felt that MK11 was darn near flawless in so many areas. But now that MK1 is here, and I've seen little bits here and there about it... I'm getting pretty hyped to lose myself in this new addition to my favorite game title ever! Awesome job again!!
I stayed away from social media, friends, & family who got the chance to play it early to avoid spoilers and talking about it. But seeing your review and the game plays on it now I’m excited!! Can’t wait to get my hands on it tomorrow.
Like i said l, i wasn't exactly sure about MK1R (the Mortal Kombat 1 Reboot, as i like to call it), it'd be best for me i wait for the special edition on sale on Steam.
Great review Ian, I watched the storyline, its interesting but agree with you timelines. They had the opportunity to start fresh and restart everything but then they rush it all out so quick.
Just so you know, Towers of Time are in the game, but under a different name- they're in the central island in Invasions. I've not had much chance to play them yet so I don't know if they unlock similar stuff to 11 but one assumes so. Also, Kia is one of Quan Chi's Brotherhood of Shadow assassins, like Sareena. She's from Mythologies. So that alternate version of Ashrah is "Kia's Sister" in a "sisterhood" sort of way.
The towers of time are in invasion mode. There are 2 worlds separate from the rest of invasion one is a practice world and the other is a tower worlds with towers that are daily weekly and monthly
I'm finding myself out of things to do after finishing Invasions. I'm hoping they add some new things soon bc I didn't have this problem with IJ2, and MK11 at their launches bc of the Multiverse and Towers of Time respectively. Invasions was fun but after you clear the boards, that's all there is
Great video, and it reminded me of something I have thought about a lot in the past regarding games in general, but this video made me realize MK is a great example: I wonder if it is any game series' destiny, should it stick around long enough, to drown in it's own 'legacy content'? When I was a kid playing the first Final Fantasy game, I remember seeing the little pixel art of every new monster being exciting. It made the world feel so dangerous, so wild and unpredictable. Today if I play a new game in the series, I know most of the monsters before I even hit 'new game'. Bombs, tonberries, malboros, cactaur, iron giants... sure, there will be some new monsters, but the majority are returning foes. This extends to the equipment you find and the magic you learn, with even the story elements often being remixed concepts from older games. Many long-running game series have this problem, from Dragon Quest to Elder Scrolls to Castlevania to Zelda. Before anyone who may reads this begins frothing at the mouth, I love these games. LOVE them. In fact, I use them as examples to make it clear this happens to even the best. Yet as much as I love them, I long for these talented teams to have a cleaner slate to work with, to add some mystery and unfamiliarity back to these fantasy worlds. It's like these games become so... clogged... with legacy content - with legacy *requirements* - there is precious little room left for anything new. I think Mortal Kombat has reached that point of critical mass when it comes to legacy content and expectations. MK has so many characters now, with so many relationships, grudges, 'signature' special moves & fatalities, etc., that as time goes on there is inevitably less and less room for anything else. Sadly for you and everyone else who is tired of the timeline stuff (myself included), I don't think it's going anywhere, because it allows the writers a way to shoehorn in any piece of legacy content they want at almost any time (I haven't played through MK1 yet, so if all the different timelines were destroyed, more the fool I). I know legacy content is here to stay, and in a huge way. Street Fighter III tried to do what I'd love to see so many game series do, a bold, light-on-legacy new entry, and it flopped, despite (from what I hear from far better fighting game players) being one of the best fighting games ever from a gameplay perspective. Where's Blanka? Where's Dhalsim, and Honda? For the record, I'm not saying I hate legacy content, I just think it's one of those things that fits the description 'less is more' perfectly, but developers are taking the opposite tact, and I suppose I can't blame them. (I know someone may pick this apart but I am writing it very tired and so in this state it stays so I can sleep. Sorry for the novel)
You are dead on with this review. I felt the exact same way about so many elements of the game. - Firstly, kameos didn’t make sense to me either tbh. The game is set in a mythical universe where magical beings ride by horse and carriage in their realms, but it’s also still 2023 and Johnny cage live streams the whole thing? Does the nether realm have good reception? You could also say the same thing about the superhero DLC characters coming soon. How are any of those people supposed to fit in this universe? I think the Kameo mechanic is a great addition in terms of function, but trying to explain it is a lost cause. It’s the fact that they TRIED to that bothers me most. - so sick of time travel. I loved the singular Mk story up until 9, but the continual retconing of the story for 3 different games + a DLC turned it into a circus. I stopped caring as soon as the new kids showed up. The storyline for MK1 started out OK (6/10), but took a nosedive as soon as time travel showed up again. Big surprise guys, it turns out we’re still dealing with the same problem even though everything is different supposedly. - I also think that this game did liu Kang dirty. The last game ended with him basically being God and creating everything and Everyone in the universe. But in this game he’s just back to being a standard, main character. Why not just take the risk with ONE character and keep him supreme/divine? GIVE him the power to snap his fingers and turn the bad guys into dust and then explain why he won’t do it. They sold him that way in the trailer when he kills Shang Tsung with ease, but he didn’t feel anything like that in the actual game. - WTF IS GOING ON WITH THESE INVASION MODE CHARACTERS? WHO OR WHAT IS WHITE LOTUS NINJA KAHN? Also, no idea what triggers “secret fights” either. - also, I really don’t even know what konaumables do (buffs I’m guessing) but I’ve never used them (or any extras for that matter) just seems complicated and doesn’t add anything worthwhile to the game. -idk how you managed to notice and verbalize that thing about mirror matches, but you are correct. -personal thoughts on Megan Fox aside, she did an awful job as nitara. Her voice acting sticks out like a sore thumb. - that seemingly random “curve in a certain character’s arc that goes nowhere” is likely due to pressure by certain members of the staff. I agree that it goes nowhere and just seems thrown in because that’s what we’re doing nowadays. Adds nothing to the story and is only there to make the person who pitched the idea happy.
The MKX story mode is my favorite out of the reboot series because it shows off the new generation of fighters (The Kombat Kids) like Jacqui Briggs and Cassie Cage and I had a blast.
Here Is What I Thought About The Story: 1- Where Are Taven Tremor Kai Mavado Drahmin?????! 2- Reiko Is One Of My All Time Favorites, Never EVER Drop Him Again! 3- Except Havik's Awesome Return In The End, The Ending It Was Just The Same As MK11. 4- Never Mess With The Characters Origins Again! 5- Don't You Never Ever Touch The Timeline And Miniplate Time Travel Ever AGAIN! 6- WHERE IS ONAGA!!!!!!
I have to say I Love the Story Mode more that MK11 and Aftermath, Each Chapter felt like a Short but 90% feels so Satisfying and Redeems Characters with Improvements that they needed for Years, I do have some issues some examples being that the Roster needed to be Larger like 30 Characters, Nitara’s Voice is so Bad I missed Ronda Rousey, and Characters like Tanya and Rain didn’t fit with their New Retcons, I give it a 8 or a 9 out of 10.
I waited until I played Story mode before watching. I had a great time, I have some thoughts on the story overall but as a game, it felt great to pick up and play with the new Kameo mechanic. A few times, I figured out how to do a couple cool things with the kameo and I felt awesome afterward haha. Really looking forward to diving into this game deeper. Great video!
I'm the opposite actually. Pre-ordered the game and overall has less content than 10 and 11 I feel. Apart from the Kameo finishers the cameo system is just the the tag in system using items in the Towers of Time mode Was hoping the kameo system would have an impact on the story mode with decisions taken and who you choose would result in branching story line paths. Played through the entire story mode and a good part of Invasion so far but still haven't unlocked any alt finishers. Roster is a mixed back I couldn't care less about characters like Havik and Tanya that I just think are to generic but like Lei Mei and the demon lady. Invasion mode I'm getting a bit bored of already. Move your character to next space fight for a round then move on. Usually end up fighting the same characters alot as well.
Just finished watching this in Patreon, now i'm gonna watch it on youtube to boost those numbers 😎 Side note: Geras's time loop fatality may be the best fatality I have ever seen!
personally i'm glad more characters like baraka and reptile are used more because they really didn't matter in any of the other games and were usually used as minions or will die off very early. I'm also very happy about the reward system because normally when I win a fight in the towers I would get the reward of lets say.. sonya blade even if I don't use her. but overall Mortal Kombat 1 is a excellent game 9/10
I wouldn't mind them bring celebrities in the Mortal Kombat 2 voice characters as long as the celebrities it bring in can actually fucking act. I swear to God if Mortal Kombat 13 has Neil Been, we riot.
Mannnnnnn you calling Reptile the "Green Ninja" took me back. I remember when my older brother fought him in the first Mortal Kombat and I didn't know his name, so I constantly just called him the "Green Ninja". I'd draw pictures of him and just write "Green Ninja" as his name, my friends and I would play and pretend to be Mortal Kombat characters and I'd always be the "Green Ninja".
Only thing I didn't like about MK1 is Megan Fox. If those line reads were the best takes I'd hate to hear the ones (if any) that were left on the cutting room floor.
@@DonYoGi8331 they were also terrible. That's why I didn't buy either of them. Don't you remember when they just came with the base game itself? I'm not waiting a year or two just so I can enjoy the game
After seeing this review, I’m not only more hyped for this game, I’m very saddened that I don’t have a PS5, Series X, or surprisingly, not even a Switch yet. I really want this game SO badly, and after seeing the footage of the new fatalities and that, and seeing how interesting every game mode is, I’m definitely gonna be working harder to get either system and get this game as my first for said system. Thank you Ian, for your honest thoughts and for getting me more hyped for this game😁. Love you and all the DanDans, and I hope y’all have a good week.😊❤️
Can't wait for the story mode. I don't have adequate hardware. You are doing my playing for me... which honestly works, because I am getting too old. Arthritis and blindness suck the fun out of gaming sometimes 😅.
I would give it a 9/10. Best mk since mk9 to me. Finally taking a break from "call of duty: the fighting game" and going back to the more Asian and magic focus which is when mortal Kombat is at its absolute best. And these stages are incredible I don't think there's a single one that I don't enjoy being on. I don't necessarily agree with every remix of these characters or every direction the story goes, but didnt hate any of it and the story in general is the absolute best story the nrs era has had. Coming from someone that has absolutely hated past nrs story modes and even hated the chapter system itself, I thought this story mode was incredible.
I find the no voicelines thing really strange as there's so many guest characters. I get that people skip them but there could easily have been an option to turn it on and off in the menu. Looks even more weird when characters intro animation starts with them getting pushed back after the voiceline
Secret fight genuinely just means it's a secret encounter attached to the encounter you just completed. And it's a secret because you don't see if you'll get it from the map
Yeah I pretty much agree with everything you said. The roaster, mastery system, kameos, gameplay is maybe the best in the series. That being said I hoped for a konquest mode or at least an expansion of the Fundation they’ve built with MK11s krypt. Invasions is nice but I liked the krypt more tbh. Also, the last 3rd of the story as well as the lack of some little things like pinning combos on screen or Tag team towers leave a bitter taste in my mouth. Thankfully all of the things I miss can be added later, so let’s hope we get some good updates and dlcs in the future.
While I don't know the story, I'm not liking what they did with Scorpion & Subzero. That's just at face value, maybe it's brilliant, but idk if I like it.
I miss the smack talking pre match. I never skip over them unless it’s a rematch. Adds to the rivalry of the and gives every fight history and personality. I miss live Towers too. I found it hard to keep playing MK1 after I beat story. I went back to MK11, the absolute best MK ever made.
This is probably my favorite after MKX. I absolutely loved the story ans reinvisioning of these characters. It was nice to see my favorites get such a spotlight (Johnny Cage, Baraka, Kenshi, Smoke, Reptile).
Dude! great video as all the MK restrospective videos... are you gonna put it togetherit with the other MK videos? I mean like the mk11 video continuation.?
Dude I was super skeptical with the kameo system. However as soon as I popped on the tutorial, it felt GOOD. I knew I was going to have fun with it. I’ve grown to like it for this title. Still have a lot to learn with it like how to implement them into my combos and shit. But it’s been fun and fresh
I think some people are going to be very divided by the more simplistic approach this game has compared to 11. This isn't mk11. The gear system is not as complex, variations are thankfully gone, and even the fatalities are not as over the top with the cinematic flair like MK11 had. "Throwback" seemed like a big theme of this game. The kameos are classic skins, a ton of 3d characters returned, and the fatality presentation is old school. They're simpler, effective, and they end with your character posing just like in the old games. That being said, the brutalities in this game are top notch. The ones I've seen so far are really cool. Again. The design choices are very simplistic this time around and I think a bunch of people are gonna be divided about it. It is what it is. The gameplay is super fun to me. I have no idea how they finally managed to make damn near every character useful, but those kameos add a dynamic that really make it interesting. It's like I want to main everyone instead of just one character. Overall, I'm really liking the game at the moment.
I hope by the end of all the dlcs and expansions, say a year and a half or two years lol we'll be able to play all Kameos as mains and use all mains as kameos, basically making everyone interchangeable. I know that probabaly won't happen but I need to finally be able to play Motaro as a main. I am extremely thankful I can use him period, with a fatality no less, but I want him as a main.
I remember when I got Mortal Kombat for Christmas and the excitement I had when I first popped it in my Sega Genesis. I haven't played one or paid much attention to the franchise since MK3 because burned out on fighting games but MK11 kinda piqued my interest a few years back although I never got around to actually playing it. This one has my interest even more so I may actually end up buying it.
Easily the best MK ever..The gameplay alone makes its a 9 right away, the story mode is excellent with very few flaws, the customization is better than MK11 and the Invasion mode is a HIT..I haven’t stopped playing since it came out last week for preorder
How is the customization better than MK11? There's no custom intro or victory animations and only 1 piece of gear per character. It feels extremely bare bones to me.
@@BabyMaharaja0 yes you can lol..Every ninja character male or female right now has at least two different masks to choose from..And majority of the ninjas has three to choose from and NRS is dropping more gear for characters as the year goes on
So... we're all in agreement that the kameo fighters are eventually gonna be playable as primary characters via DLC, right? They already have the assets and most of the animations, it seems like an easy and inexpensive way to make money that WB will eventually insist NR take advantage of.
Same here man. I was not hyped like i was for the past games,BUT thats not to say im not interested.....im just knee deep in starfield and that game has DEEP hooks yall! But always good to hear your take brudda.🤘💀
Put simply, Sindel fans eating well this go around. So are Reptile fans, and 3D era fans. I know I was pleasantly surprised at how much more slack NRS were cutting the 3D Era cast this time around. The Kameo system is kinda neat if only because its almost exactly like the Striker system that King of Fighters used for a few of its games, its almost exact. Also Megan Fox as Nitara was not a good choice. Worse still since they got a more accomplished VA (Cristina Vee) to do her in-battle shouts. Also also the pre-fight intro back-and-forths are relegated to versus mode.
The biggest problem with timeline and multiverses is that literally everyone is doing them right now. It’s time to move on a bit. It was fresh at first but it’s certainly over done.
im honestly burnt out on multiverses and alternate timelines in fiction, not saying it can't ever work or isn't ever interesting, but its become a very tired cliche at this point. id love to see a property where the idea is brought up and flatly dismissed as ridiculous, then never referenced again
I agree with pretty much everything he said in this review. Kombat has the best feel since number 9. The story is pretty good and had me hooked until the end. I really missed the Crypt and super bummed about that I am utterly sick of timeline faced story we've gotten like 15 of them in the Last 5 Years. Shit the flash just did it. M she U did it last year. I cant give it a final score until the DLC is komplete.
Shang Tsung looks like David Bowie thats the quote of the day..😂😂 Im actually taking my time with story mode and invasions. Knowing myself ive have the game beaten in 2 days, thats what happened with tekken 7, RE 7 & 8.. But im definitely enjoying MK1
Hey Ian, I don’t know if you started writing your script for the story mode review but did you plan talking about tower’s endings in that future video? I believe all of the characters endings are cannon.
I couldn't agree with you more on the lack of hype I had for this one. I'm excited to check this out but I haven't been that crazy for it since 9 and 10. The time business is a little strange in 11 and that may have been why I'm not running out to grab it day 1. I am excited to see reptile with his ninja outfit, even though it goes back and forth to the other one. When I found him by complete accident in mk1, I really wanted to have an opportunity to play as him. Got that in the later entries of course. This incarnation comes as close as possible to remind me of that time down in the pit, all those years ago. I haven't played it obviously but just seeing him, that's good business. 💪🔥🙌🎃
SPOILERS! • • • • I loved the story all the way until Shang Tsung was shown to be Kronika. The main reason is all the characters that were setup in this timeline were forgotten about and just became everyone vs. Shang Tsung, still wasn’t bad, but the story was flowing so well with the best characterisation of every character ever, just the ending was disappointing considering how good the rest was!
I looked up the story, because I won't be getting this game, and yeah. Timelines? Hopefully that's it for those shennanigans going forward. Then again, in another . . . life, I might be all on board for them. Hope MK fans enjoy it though. It's been so cool to see Mortal Kombat be so successful again since 2011

There are many unlockable colors for each outfit, yes.

Timeline.
Reptile and Baraka rule!!!
Huge fan of Reptile since Mortal Kombat 1 (the real first one)
The whole secret character thing and how to find him was amazing. One of the first ever legit hidden characters in gaming history. He took hella L’s after but he looks amazing in MK1.
Can we talk about dat Journey to Silius OST in the background though 🤘
Here's my take one the game:
It's mixed.
It really felt like Mortal Kombat meets Marvel. Cage was absolutely insufferable with all the references.
Thats a very good description! I'll just warn you that your comment is kinda of a spoiler.
The towers of time equivalent is one of the mesas in the invasion mode!
Glad you're gonna do a full playthrough, I've been avoiding other streamers hoping that you would
Mk11 didnt have stage fatalitys until Aftermath. maybe we will get them later on
I love your breakdown of this new MK game, as I felt the same way that you did.
Thank you for being the first person ive seen to show this game on youtube without censoring the fatalities
I've been using Reptile and Motaro exclusively. Been good so far. Motaro's reflect ability is so good against projectile spammers.
I'm not 100% sold on MK1 but I'm liking a lot of what I've seen so far.
I was so happy to see Smoke! He’s my favorite MK character of all time! Where there is smoke there is fire! 💨
Never stop using wrestling terms in your vids, dude lol. I love trying to catch ‘em all
Just so you know, Towers of Time are in the game, but under a different name- they're in the central island in Invasions.
Invasions was fun but after you clear the boards, that's all there is
Great video, and it reminded me of something I have thought about a lot in the past regarding games in general, but this video made me realize MK is a great example:
I wonder if it is any game series' destiny, should it stick around long enough, to drown in it's own 'legacy content'?
Yeah, I heard her lines and I was like who the fuck is reading off of a paper? She was legitimately awful.
The MKX story mode is my favorite out of the reboot series because it shows off the new generation of fighters (The Kombat Kids) like Jacqui Briggs and Cassie Cage and I had a blast.
Here Is What I Thought About The Story:
1- Where Are Taven Tremor Kai Mavado Drahmin?????!
I just love to hear the Journey to Silius OST in the back. Good choice !!
I love that in the new era the Mortal Kombat tournament is used as a way to keep peace rather than wage war
It was meant to keep peace in the previous era... but it was corrupted by Shang Tsung.
Definitely never get tired of your Mortal Kombat content!
I give it a 9 on gameplay alone. After mk11 gameplay mk1 is amazing.
I give it a 6.1 because that timeline shit is getting old and we didn't get Onaga.
Rousey was a horrible VA, she sounded like they didn't even tell here what her character was doing or she didn't bother to ask
@@colonelhstinkmeaner8547 To be Fair if NRS was going to reveal Onaga, the would have done it already, plus MK1 was more of a Deadly Alliance Requel
@@TheWonkster say what you will about Ronda but at least she tried and gave it all compared to Megan Fox or Dimitri Vega.
No stage fatalities... yet! Remember, they didn't appear in 11 until Aftermath came out.
I'm the opposite actually. Pre-ordered the game and overall has less content than 10 and 11 I feel.
Apart from the Kameo finishers the cameo system is just the the tag in system using items in the Towers of Time mode
Was hoping the kameo system would have an impact on the story mode with decisions taken and who you choose would result in branching story line paths.
Invasion mode was an instant-win as soon as I heard Johnny Cage's password!
Just finished watching this in Patreon, now i'm gonna watch it on youtube to boost those numbers 😎
Side note: Geras's time loop fatality may be the best fatality I have ever seen!
I have to say, the reveal of Barney The Dinosaur as the new villain of the series is not a twist I expected.
personally i'm glad more characters like baraka and reptile are used more because they really didn't matter in any of the other games and were usually used as minions or will die off very early.
I love the game and it was a great idea to make it fresh again
Kia's sister is Ashrah, homie. Ashrah mentions Kia being her sister in the story mode.
Only thing I didn't like about MK1 is Megan Fox. If those line reads were the best takes I'd hate to hear the ones (if any) that were left on the cutting room floor.
Thanks Ian, you're the guy we trust on matters of Kombat!
MAn, the fact that stage fatalities aren't in this game is a deal breaker for me. It was the only reason I would have bought it.
Stage fatalities weren't in 10 or 11 at launch, they got added in later updates.
@@DonYoGi8331 they were also terrible. That's why I didn't buy either of them. Don't you remember when they just came with the base game itself? I'm not waiting a year or two just so I can enjoy the game
Kia is one of Quan Chi's henchwomen alongside Sareena
This game is definitely a huge improvement over 11, and this is for coming from somebody who loves that game.
I love how much you love MK dude
Your reviews are kick ass
I've always thought the story for the original trilogy was really good. It just starts to get silly and all over the place after that though.
If there's one more storytelling trope that's cliche and needs to die off, it's multiverses.
I think I agree with you I'm not so sure how I feel about invasion I'm only on the 2nd world... I am so happy how they treated Baraka and reptile.
How is the customization better than MK11? There's no custom intro or victory animations and only 1 piece of gear per character. It feels extremely bare bones to me.
@@FreshMetal80exactly. you can't even customize masks on the female ninjas now
@@BabyMaharaja0 yes you can lol..Every ninja character male or female right now has at least two different masks to choose from..And majority of the ninjas has three to choose from and NRS is dropping more gear for characters as the year goes on
If they just increase the special cancel window a bit so you don’t need to dial it in all at once, then this game is a solid 10 for me.
So... we're all in agreement that the kameo fighters are eventually gonna be playable as primary characters via DLC, right? They already have the assets and most of the animations, it seems like an easy and inexpensive way to make money that WB will eventually insist NR take advantage of.
The new Konquest mode is not in MK1.
It's in Street Fighter 6 World Tour.
Breaks my heart as a MK fan 💔
"I'm a one man crew"
"You are one...we are many"
Next weekend story mode and this new invasion mode got my switch ready let's do this 😊😊
I am a dandan and this review was signed and approved by gorilla monsoon
Ooh man , regardless of the games quality or whatever , I'm always happy that a new game come out so we get more MK Kontent from you ✌️😸
was literally just looking for a good mk 1 review as u posted this lol always hype to see 616 post a vid!!
Shang Tsung looks like David Bowie thats the quote of the day..😂😂
Im actually taking my time with story mode and invasions. Knowing myself ive have the game beaten in 2 days, thats what happened with tekken 7, RE 7 & 8.. But im definitely enjoying MK1
I’m loving Shang Tsung’s younger look..I actually like all the designs for the characters outside of Styker
Hey Ian, I don’t know if you started writing your script for the story mode review but did you plan talking about tower’s endings in that future video? I believe all of the characters endings are cannon.
i'm curious about your quick thoughts on the Kombat Pack DLC with Omni-Man, Homelander, Peacemaker, etc being in the game
Ian-Boy, now that MK1 has been released, any chance of you ranking every Mortal Kombat game tier list style?
Ian as i saw the ending of MK1 i immediately thought of you haha
I was wondering if you are you to pick back up on the mortal Kombat deception series and finish that up?
Wrestling, GoW and MK... I'd be this guys best friend lol

I loved the story all the way until Shang Tsung was shown to be Kronika. The main reason is all the characters that were setup in this timeline were forgotten about and just became everyone vs. Shang Tsung, still wasn’t bad, but the story was flowing so well with the best characterisation of every character ever, just the ending was disappointing considering how good the rest was!
Did you not finish the game? That’s not what happens at all.
Sarcasm? Lol
Dropping a like gor support. Will watch after I complete story mode!
I looked up the story, because I won't be getting this game, and yeah. Timelines? Hopefully that's it for those shennanigans going forward. Then again, in another . . . life, I might be all on board for them. Hope MK fans enjoy it though. It's been so cool to see Mortal Kombat be so successful again since 2011
Hello ian are we going to see an mk1 first playthrough of the story mode?
Love your honest reviews your awesome dude. Can't wait to see more keep up the amazing work. One man crew getting the job done !!
