Your experience is not an exception. I am actually a dealer with Air Venturi and ordered 3 of these rifles (one in each caliber) on the strength of the reviews by Ted at Ted's Holdover and Steve at AEAC, who also posted an exceptional vlog of tuning and balancing this rifle. While the .22 was relatively clean (about a dozen patches) and all the adjustments (except the trigger) worked perfectly, both the other rifles had issues. I had to repair a large gap in the casting of the end cap on the .25 which would have definitely caused turbulence problems right at the end of the barrel. The .177 had very slow recovery of the regulator for about 100 shots and while the .22 had the 5.5 turns on the hammer adjusting screw, exactly as stated on AEAC, both the others had just over 3 turns. Several people have stated that the screw can feel like it has hit a stop when there is still travel left but I put as much force as I felt was safe and they didn't budge in either direction. Both the .177 and .25 had very, very dirty barrels and the .177 actually had rust in the barrel that I ultimately had to remove with paste before I could get the barrel really clean and smooth.
With three rifles to work thru I have't gotten much further than basic mounting of scopes and sighting at 25 yards. At that short range all three are accurate. But just as you noted with your .25, all three of mine were shooting way too hot out of the box. Well over 930 with mid-weight pellets for the caliber. I believe this is a very good rifle at the price point and given all the features. I also believe that there are a LOT of improvements to be made. It has generated almost as much over-enthusiastic buzz as the Gauntlet did when it was introduced. And like the Gauntlet there are a lot of improvements that Air Venturi needs to put into this rifle to make it a king at the price level.
First, QA needs to be dramatically better. A flawed casting at the end of the barrel and slow regulators are not easily excused. And barrels being stored so poorly that they develop rust is inexcusable. Next, these guns should ship with the regulators set at the lowest usable adjustment; not at 200 BAR. Give the rifle buyer a chance to dial the rifle up instead of shooting way over optimum velocity out of the box. This is an entry level price and many entry level buyers are not going to have chronographs or necessarily realize that the reason they can't get a decent group is that their rifle is shooting 50fps over the optimum velocity for the pellets. This is, I believe, a rifle that with some time and attention can be an exceptional shooter. But for anyone just getting into PCPs who does not have the knowledge, tools, time, and equipment to fiddle with it and get it properly tuned they would be much better off to look to spending a bit more money and going with ultra-reliable, proven rifles like the Marauder or the Hatsan AT44 platform. The Avenger is a good rifle that hopefully will be improved and de-bugged over the next couple years; but it has a ways to go.

All the nagging about the stock. I been shooting over 55yrs. And never recall tapping on the stock to hear a hollow sound. Also the cocking lever I believe is metal, coated in a durable hard plastic made of the same thing as the stock. I love the weight, not looking for a problem for 350 dollars, so I haven't found one. Not a squirrel on earth want to stick its head out at 50yrds. This is my opinion.

Not sure if you tried this or not but sometimes if an air rifle is out of air the hammer leans on the output valve just enough to open it a tad and won't allow it to be filled.. By cocking the hammer allows the output valve to be closed and allow it to be filled.. When there is some air in the tank it is enough to keep the output valve closed even though the hammer may lean on the valve.. If you are nervous about filling the air with the hammer cocked then just back the hammer all the way out so it isn't leaning with any amount of pressure on the output valve..

My experience with the Avenger .22 has been with five different rifles. One had POI shifts that made it totally unreliable. Another had torque on the shroud that pulled the barrel downward causing a low and right grouping that was beyond my scope adjustments. The other three were the new baffle models that had identical regulator creep at 200 PSI in seven minutes going to 600 to 800 PSI over night. Air Venturi could not find regulator creep in the last Avenger I returned, don't know about their test of the other two. They test at 2900 PSI on the regulator and I use 1400, 1800 and 2000 PSI which creeped. The high pressure test of 2900 PSI is probably enough to seal a faulty regulator Delrin ring and lower pressure is not enough to stop creep. Three things learned dealing with those faulty air rifles and people who sell them. Parts are not available. Dealers will not admit to any regulator creep, it is always the consumers fault due to not degassing the rifle before adjusting. The poppet valve defect took over a year to correct. Last, when trying to address the regulator creep with the seller and other dealers who also sell the rifle, one would think their religion was in question. Most times I felt gaslighted to the point that no competent person would question the perfect regulator. If the new baffle models have a manufacturers defect with the regulator, we are probably looking at another year to solve.

Very informative thanks !! I think you helped me with my decision on a first pcp. I will try the new umarex origin.( I wish the origin had a quick disconnect in place like the avenger). Have you considered an affordable air compressor?? I'm retired and watch my fixed income, which ain't much. Umarex has one abuot 400 dollars . " shooting gear review" has a good review on the umarex comp. if you want to take a look. Stack those pellets!

I have the original Air Venturi Nomad but whenever it needs replacing I think this is a really nice low-cost option. GX CS1-I PCP Air Compressor with Built-in Power Adapter, Auto-shutoff, Oil &Water-Free. It can work off home power or car battery and is maintenance free. About $350 on Amazon. For another $100 you can step up to the GX CS3.

You wouldn't believe some of the nuts that make crazy comments about there being a beer in the background wile I am making footage. So i did that for them. I use a young heng compressor with TUXING 4500 psi PCP Compressor Oil Water Separator . And 6.8L acecare bottle.

Mine started leaking from the lower (smaller) air tube after about 400 shots. I’m hoping AV can just sell me that part.

I have a .25 on back order from PA and opted for their $10 for 10 option. I ask that they keep it for 24 hrs after and re-check for air loss before shipping. Hopefully will they do this to help avoid ,at least , this issue.... Nice honest review!!

You should put some insulation foam inside the butt of the stock it will make it way nicer. Nice video.
