How to make the most delicious wr3wr3/ wrewre (melon seed)and chicken soup

  • So I brought out the Ashanti girl in me in full swing and made wer3wr3 nkwan. Wr3wr3 is seeds derived from a type of melon and it is used to make soup. The result is similar to groundut or peanut butter soup, but tastier and more aromatic. Growing up, it was reserved for special ocassions and very very special guests. Have you ever had it? Either way I hope this is helpful and you try it.
    Ingredients
    1 good size layer chicken/ hen (about 7 lb)
    4 cups wr3wr3
    4 medium sized tomatoes
    2-3 habaneros or any peppers to your taste
    2 large onions
    About a thumb size ginger
    8 cloves garlic
    some basil
    1 teaspoon aniseed (nkitinkiti)
    salt to taste

    Saying Hello from Florida 🙋🏾‍♀️ and a BIG THANK YOU for sharing your craft with us! I bought the seeds and at the point of marrying the boiled seed soup with the chicken stew and needed to say I appreciate you tremendously Sis! I must say that the seeds smell like peanut butter. I know it’s a totally different nut/seed but that’s the vibe it’s giving me right now...anyway, I still love it 🥰 Shalom!

    So I have finally seen a Ghanian that knows this soup. I am Nigerian but ate this soup alot growing up. We just called it ghana peppersoup in my house, although my mum used melon seeds in nigeria. My family had a Ghanian family friendin nigeria and some of my relations also lived in ghana. I schooled in Knust Ghana and all my Ghanian friends I asked had no idea of the soup. They said maybe its light soup my mum cooked differently. When my mum came to Ghana she ate light soup and said its different. Is the wrewre same as sunflower seeds. Thanks for the recipe. Just as my mum made it

    • @PatriciaAbijah
      @PatriciaAbijah 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We do have it but people usually go for the groundut option. What do you call it in Nigeria?

    • @ebruphiyookpako814
      @ebruphiyookpako814 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My mum learnt it from Ghanians in Nigeria, But we used melon (egusi) seeds since we dont have the wrewre seeds I guess. Its not a Nigerian dish... we just copied it from ghanian family friends and loved it but never saw it during my stay in ghana.
      The seeds look like sunflower seeds... are they sunflower seeds or another melon specie
