Like, I know that was a masturbation joke, but was that an intentional poke at the final recommendation he gives? (Midori days.) Right hand chan indeed loves him vry much.
Yeah, but genre tags are only there to help people search for or learn what the major themes of a series or a movie are. Putting them in just because something is "sort of there" is entirely missing the point of a genre tag. By the same virtue it should have "harem", "shounen", "shounen ai", "martial arts", "magic", etc., because all of those are there at some point.
Duwang Is Unbreakable I can't tell if you're being serious or not. I wouldn't have so much as a problem with MAL if their standards of good/bad anime in their reviews weren't all over the goddamn place. Yes, I'm aware that different reviewers on the same website will offer different perspectives, but come on, what dude writes a proper critique on anime x, then the next dude writes, "Hmm, it was boring", and that's it. At least places like Anime America have a few, limited people, so that there's some consistency.
When people see Harem animes that goes nowhere they say it's like "Nisekoi" not like "Ranma 1/2" so yeah I think it's only popular on the older generation.
My eternal romance anime recommendation is Lovely Complex (LoveCom). I rewatch the entire show on average once per year, and it makes me absolutely bawl every single time - both with happiness and in heartbreak. Bonus points: Bouncy and addictive music and a full 24 episodes, instead of the painfully rushed pace it would take in 12. Also, avoid the live action movie. The super dorky, awkward, and often super embarrassing interactions that are critical between the two main characters of the series are painfully cringe-worthy in live film.
3:34 was a poetic line from Geoff himself: "When you're feeling down all you want to do is laugh, and if that's the mood you're in few series will do you better than Ranma 1/2." Straight poetry to brighten my Valentine's day.
There is an anime about a girl who does everything for this guy- dropping out of high school and getting two jobs to support him as he rises in popularity as a idol in a band- AAAAND he dumps her. So the whole rest of the anime is focused on her using her anger to get revenge on him by becoming an idol herself- with a new chance for romance as well (with a different guy.) I love this anime but I can't remember the name- the girl was called Kyoko I believe.
It's been awhile since I've seen it, but it's actually really funny. Like, Kiyoko's facial expressions always make me laugh lol. I don't really like the way the artist draws guys, but the girls look fine to me. :D
Skip Beat is such a guilty pleasure for me. The manga in particular becomes so patently ridiculous that it's almost absurdist. Ren is blatantly a terrible human being, and Kyoko is a complete idiot, but, oh, do I love it so much. The anime is fairly good. After the revenge arc wraps up, the whole story is mostly about her acting career, as she's not a music idol, and her (weird, unrequited-from-her-end) romance with hottie superstar Ren. At its core it's a goofy romcom that does everything over-the-top. I enjoy it immensely.
I would gladly marathon these today, but sadlh valentines day for me is "force as much study material in your brain because all your midterms are just a few days apart at most" day. Thanks for the recommendations tho
I recommend (not just for MB but for anyone reading this) ~ "Doukyuusei": a very sweet and pure romance that I found quite heartwarming and refreshingly devoid of the many frustrating clichés that seem to define modern romance anime. It's only an hour long but it's definitely worth the watch. "Skip Beat": very broken people (re)discover how to love themselves and maybe love someone else all while traversing the hilarious and dramatic world of show-biz. "Fruits Basket": just ... it's Fruits Basket. Manga or anime, it will make ya feel for, if not for all then most, of the characters. "Snow White w/ the Red Hair": a fairy tale w/ a light and sweet romance between two proactive, determined leads. "Princess Tutu": a magical girl fairy tale that plays with the tropes of both genres while offering up sweet romance and classical music. Romance is not my favorite genre. These shows may not be definitively 'romance' but the romance within their stories resonated with me to the point that I recommend them alongside FMA, Haikyuu, Berserk, Avatar, Trigun, YYH, Mushishi and Voltron.
On the plus side that means you're guaranteed to have something to celebrate every Valentine's Day. Heck, if you're single that's practically an excuse to forget all about the holiday and just enjoy your birthday. Happy birthday, by the way.
So I went and watched Love Stage, because Yuri on Ice had reminded me why I loved the cheesy and cute bl romances so much, and this recommendation made me wanna see Love Stage. If Yuri on ice reminded me why I loved Bl, Love Stage reminded me why I hated it. Now, I'm not trying to say these were bad recommendations, because i did end up enjoying this show a lot, but not for the right reasons. I found after episode three, when (spoiler) Ryouma pins down IZumi and molests him while he cries and begs for him to stop- it became something of a comedy. Never once in the first 9 episodes of this 10 episode series does Ryoma ask Izumi for consent, and frequently out right ignores his hard no's. Hahaha it's funny and cute because he's... crying and begging you to stop... .adorable? Most of their first interactions are molesty. And to be fair, I was totally warned. But I didn't listen. I just didn't know HOW molesty it got. Seems like everyone wants to rape Izumi tho. The romantic lead. Random thugs. Some old guy when he was a kid. His brother kind of. Everyone. And this is a common trope in BL, and not anything unique to this series. The Uke, (and don't let the self aware nature of this show fool you- Izumi is the most Uke boy to ever Uke this side of the rainbow bridge) is always small and pretty in a girly way, and lots of otherwise straight men want him. This is the single most annoying trope out there. Sure, this show did write it in better then most, but it doesn't change the fact that the Uke boy looks like a child or a girl trope is either heteronormative, or vaguely pedophilic. Now, I'm sure Geoff watches a lot of anime, but I wouldn't be surprised if I had watched and read more Bl and Yaoi then he had, so maybe he's not as familiar with these tropes? Either way, I did end up having a good time, if only because it was a blast to make fun of it throughout it's short run with my friend. (examples: "Oh look Izumi he bought you a crape! That totally makes up for the RAPE." "Has he told Izumi about the time he molested him in his sleep yet?" "Nope?" "Awe he said nice things about my manga! It's like the rape never happened!" ect.) If you guys want a genuinely good BL story, may I suggest FAKE? The manga. Not the anime. The anime is horrible. FAKE is a gritty crime drama Manga where in the main characters are cops, and partners who end up falling in love. Neither of these men is an Uke, and in fact they both look like fit, tall, men. Which is hard to find in BL, because how will the presumed straight female reader project herself onto a competent, level headed, kindly police man!? This show goes there, handles some interesting cases, and is filled with characters you will fall in love with. But thanks for a good time, Geoff.
Neala Ernswa I don't think that the portrayal of Izumi as girly and small makes it pedophilic OR heteronormative. Now, I've only watched the first five episodes of Love Stage (and nearly forgot about it), so perhaps Izumi's portrayal as "childlike" becomes blatant later in the series, but that's not what I seen when I watched it. Having straight men go after him left and right doesn't change that. In fact, when I got curious about the manga and read some panels of him being chased by thugs, I don't think his youthful appearance was even mentioned; it was primarily for his femininity. Which brings me to the point of it being heteronormative: which I also think is incorrect. It seems like it was overdone, but it's only natural that a thug/rapist who is a straight man, would go after women. Many mistook Izumi as a woman. They harrassed him as a result. I don't understand how this is heteronormative, especially with the fact that the entire show centers around a romance between two men. Now, that being said, I don't think the anime is good by any means. I did drop it, after all. In fact, I don't even like BL, and usually avoid watching it (seriously, at least. If you know what I mean). This is why, despite being aware of the hype surrounding Yuri on Ice, I still haven't watched it. I probably will, though. Eventually. It seems like a good anime. I wasn't especially upset during some of the molest-y scenes when watching it, although that _was_ part of the reason I dropped it. Other than the fact that the romantic aspects of yaoi does absolutely nothing for me, I just didn't take it seriously. I'd typed too much. How disappointing.
Yesssssss! FAKE (the manga) is quite good. The crime stories aren't always top shelf, but some are really compelling and they're always interesting. The characters, though. That's where it shines. Even the supporting characters are great, and the two leads are rich and fully-developed. Their personal and professional dramas make you rush to turn the page. In terms of problems, yes, Dee has a lot of traditional seme "no means yes" issues, but it's all pretty much undercut by the fact that Ryo is a very competent man in his own right and is absolutely not going to put up with any shit. The series can play off Dee being too handsy as a joke because we all know Ryo could break his arm if he decided he wanted to. Anyways, HIGHLY recommend FAKE. Ambivalent about Love Stage.
Honestly BLs like Love Stage are just too cheesy. I just can't watch or read BL like that. Want something good as well then I can recommend Mauri to Ryu, Oko-sama Star and Sonna Me De Mite Kure
*SPOILERS* I mean, he wasn't exactly molested. The only time they actually do get intimate it's totally consensual, but I can see your point. Love Stage is actually the only BL I ever watched and even I could tell it was tropy af. basically had all the same terrible trimmings of bad yuri (which is pretty much all of them, unfortunately). All in all, 0/10 would not recommend, not enough buttsex
If anyone is reading this somehow, know that another good anime romance is “love, chunibyou, and other delusions” it’s what got me to look for romance anime. It’s funny and the main cast has good chemistry
I must say I'm thankful for the trigger warning for Love Stage. I am able to watch things that have molesty moments, but usually only when I'm braced for them. So really appreciate it, and I think I will check it out. Thank you and good day to you and your girlfriend!
I know I'm late to seeing this video, so this comment is a bit out of the blue, but I gotta say... Love Stage kind of disappointed me. and it did so in the exact way that all yaoi and BL seem to at the end of the day... because it really did all the physical intimacy stuff poorly. to be clear: I can handle when a genre like this has like... forced kisses or something? it's not great, and I think the scenes where the main character was forcibly kissed, and groped, *and* had his clothes partially removed was too over the top, but I get that stuff like this plays off of the forbidden love trope, and acts as a catalyst for one (or in this case both) characters to figure out that they like each other physically, despite internalized homophobia. so sure. it's uncomfortable, but it's intended as a plot shortcut, not necessarily the fetishization of anyone's pain. what I cannot stand, is that inevitable moment in every one of these stories where the obvious Guy Who Is Gonna Be The Bottom asks "will this hurt?" and the only answer he's given is "YES." like, I know. I know the purpose of these stories isn't really to educate the audience about this topic in a realistic/clinical way. but when a character inside of the story is asking for information on how to do this in a way that functionally works for both people, like... *as part of the plot,* and he canonically does not get a good answer??? that bothers me! and this kid is even looking at yaoi and BL in an attempt to see how this type of relationship is supposed to work! which is wonderfully in character, because yeah! he's an otaku! of course he'd do that, and get conflicting information, and it actually reveals a bit of an issue with this kind of story, and how all of them portray the physical relationship between two men as universally good for whoever is topping, and universally painful or uncomfortable for whoever is bottoming, and the unanimous conclusion is that the bottom is just gonna have to make that sacrifice if he wants their relationship to work. which is simply not the only option, even though it's presented as though it is. but wait, the show has introduced this butler character! he seems fairly knowledgeable, he's open minded, he's supportive... surely he will set the record straight! nope. he will not. kid asks "will it hurt?" and the guy just goes "yeah." like... the show had an opportunity to show that a real person would give better advice than a bunch of fictional, sensationalized romance dramas, but this story just doubles down on the stupid trope that I hate. what was the point of that?? why set this butler guy up as the advice giving voice of reason, if he's only got bad advice to give when it really matters?! all he had to say was that there are ways to minimize discomfort when bottoming, list what those are (proper preparation, relaxing/not tensing up your muscles, lube... etc.) and then advise him to test his limits on his own, so he knows what he does and doesn't like, and can tell his partner that when they actually try something together. that's it. bam. it's not that hard. it might've even been a shorter scene than what they went with, and I wouldn't have to watch the characters fuss around with miscommunication bullshit until our obvious top just does some googling. but the real cherry on top is that the butler actually suggested that the "uke" should top. he actually suggested it. he said that. and for a second I was like "hallelujah!" because if we're really gonna assume that Mr. Top is gonna hurt the frail little bottom boy, then I would *at least* like to see someone suggest the most obvious solution to that problem. and the show almost even goes through with it! which would've actually fixed another major problem with the genre! after watching the "aggressor" pursue his reluctant love interest for episode after episode, the love interest does have to start putting the moves on him in return, or it really starts to seem like the romance actually is one-sided, and the pursuer really is just a delusional creepy weirdo. this is how tops in gay love stories turn into predatory stereotypes, and all you have to do to solve that issue, is make the other guy display some form of enthusiasm for the relationship. which, to be fair, does happen in this show. they work things out, everything is fine in the end, but man oh man it would've been better if the little guy got to top. aside from all that though, this show made me grumpy because it felt like kind of a watered down version of Skip Beat. you've got the protagonist who's new to show business, and kind of stumbles into it by accident... you've got the tall, dark haired heartthrob who's more experienced as an actor, takes his craft seriously, but is also a huge dork when you get to know him and has a rocky initial relationship with the protagonist and has to sort of find out that they're not so bad... you've even got the blond haired rival guy who's in a band and is competing with tall dark and handsome for popularity, and has a personal connection to the main character (though the nature of that connection is very different in each case). I think Skip Beat is a much more well connected love story though, and it has a lot more to say about moving past personal trauma, living for the sake of your own growth rather than to spite your enemies, pursuing what you really want for the right reasons, and opening yourself up because you might find your life's passion in an unexpected place. Kyoko is a wonderful character because she initially uses anger as a motivator... her life is really trying to lay her low, and this is how she's surviving. but the more she finds real fulfillment in acting, the more she begins to really live her own life and thrive. and that isn't just window dressing, it's essential to the romance. Ren is the first one to look at all of Kyoko's insane efforts and still call it half assed, because she doesn't really care about acting out of love for the craft. he looks at her and sees a mockery of what he does. he has to mature a little bit too before he can realize that Kyoko is just new at this... not only acting, but doing things for her own fulfillment. and she's someone who's willing to adjust her course, and try really hard at whatever she sets her mind to. she's got insane work ethic, she's very earnest, sometimes to a fault... and her attentiveness to others has actually given her a lot of life experience, and practice imaging herself in someone else's shoes. she doesn't always get it right away, but if there's one thing Kyoko is good at, it's trying for someone else's sake. and that's endearing as hell. I guess my point is... I wish that love story had an anime, because that one actually uses every part of its premise to support its other themes. in Love Stage, the story never even made it clear what kind of show business the main character was trying to get into... acting or modeling maybe, but it really doesn't matter. I kept waiting for him to start studying anatomy and marginally improve his art skills... maybe his boyfriend could suggest it first as a way to help him? or there was the bit where they were both working on the manga together, and later the butler looks at it and notes that it starts looking better about halfway through, implying that the "assistant" might actually have some artistic skills of his own... I kept waiting for the show to do something with that, but nah, that'd be a little too interesting, wouldn't it. I guess it was just weird to me that, between the manga thing and the acting thing, the main character chose to do the acting thing... I feel like the show should've just picked one and made him genuinely try at that. like if he was *just* the main character struggling to get good at making manga, and then this hot guy takes an interest in him and offers to be his assistant as a way to get closer to him... or if it was *just* the main character wanting to get into show business because he wants to live up to his family's expectations/legacy, but he's got crippling anxiety and is struggling to work around it when this more experienced actor guy helps him out and the two start bonding from there... either one of those would've worked better played straight (or not, haha) but instead we got both, and both felt neglected. anyway, that's enough highly irrelevant complaining from me...
I'm a tomato I wasn't expecting him to recommend it. It's my second favorite romance anime, but judging by the lack of a season 2, I figured people didn't take it well.
Watched Baby Steps upon this video's recommendation, it is now one of my all time favorite anime shows (it does help that I like tennis and played (poorly) as a child). Really, really, REALLY bummed that there is no season 3 in sight. That said, I wouldn't say the show puts its emphasis on the romance. It's pretty much a sports show with a romantic subplot thrown in. Most of the romantic aspects are teases that they like each other, and even when they finally agree to date it doesn't do much with it. I have a feeling the manga gets into it during the All Japan arc, but I would have loved to see it in animated form.
I don't have crushing loneliness.. I think that's something people exhibit when they aren't around someone as awesome as I am. Not me though, knowing other people just waters down the experience. Nyahahahaha.... Okay maybe I'm a little lonely but don't tell anybody! :
I personally recommend Steins;Gate. It's got a strong romantic subplot, but - as with Baby Steps - it's critically focused on something else, so the romance evolves naturally. It's not classed as a romance anime, but the romantic elements are actually really sweet and genuine. Also, Steins;Gate is awesome as an anime in general, not just for its romance. God damn is it well-written (even the dub).
While I dwell in my basement, I like to relax with the light hearted romantic comedy, that is Mirai Nikki. The love between the main duo is based on the "if you love him/her, let him/her go", giving each other space and setting them free. Also Yuno is best girl!
I am going to be be 21 this year, and don't know shit about my future. Instead am working hard on developing a taste in anime instead, so I have something to clutch on as I forget to care about my own life. That deserves a "fuck".
I think I'll just rewatch _I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying_. It's a series of 3 minute episodes, so it's a small time investment. And the two leads are in a comfortable, laid-back stage of their relationship, while still obviously being in love. Edit: I should probably mention that it's a romantic comedy about a normal woman married to an otaku. Hijinks ensue. That's probably important.
i had to stop and comment cuz i heard traverse town music in the background... i can always hear even the faintest kh music in anything... why am i like this
Sword Art Online is pretty romantic. The people even get married and share an inventory in the game. The games mechanics were built to facilitate OP MCs show off in front of chicks, therefore facilitating romance. It's genius! How come SAO wasn't included in the list? It's even in the thumbnail.
The second you started talking about Midori days when I first watched this video, I literally shreaied like a girl. You have awesome taste, good sir. be sure to read the manga if you haven't already, it goes on for much longer, and it's even better. Also thanks for introducing me to Baby Steps btw. I just spent the last 2 days Bing watching season 1. You've rounded my life, but I still love you anyway. :)
I'm actually pleased that you called out Ranma ½ and Midori Days as simple fun romantic comedies. Ranma was the second anime I ever encountered (after Neon Genesis Evangelion; talk about a style and genre transition), and the first official English-translated manga I ever read. I discovered Midori no Hibi quite a bit later, but it still left a strong enough impression to buy the official DVD release. Both enthralled me with their fun mix of comedy, honest romance, distinct and likable characters, and whimsical absurdity, and while Midori seemed to hit hardest and fastest in that regard (while also maintaining the strongest best pairing), Ranma will always be the quintessential romantic absurdist comedy in my mind (to say nothing about its extremely prolific and long fanfiction community, which is an entirely different beast altogether). Regardless, I'm glad you highlighted both of these series in one of your many videos, so thanks for spotlighting a couple of formative anime in my own personal history.
I've tried School Days on several occasions, it's the only show so far that I've watched where the main character's idiocy cringes me away from watching more of it.
It is pretty awful actually, did give a different view on relationships at that age than most anime but it's not done as well as it could have been. It's a lot better than it does deserve to be though. When it comes to cringe, I can see where you are coming from. For me , Watamote is the only one I couldn't get through due to finding everything in it downright painful to sit through.
Princess Jellyfish is an adorable anime with a touching story about loss and finding a voice in a confusing world. There’s only one season so it leaves you wanting more but it’s one of my all time favorites and definitely worth a watch. Also there’s cross dressing
The part about the "Chinese cartoons" is a joke, to all of those ignorant of that fact. It seems you haven't enjoyed anime long enough to be able to get or joke about that yet
I am both someone who has barely started enjoying anime and also didn't get the joke, so it's good to know that it was a deliberate in-joke. Thank you for explaining that it was a joke and not a mistake; I was confused. (no sarcasm)
like I am in love with all this KH music you used. I love KH, and its so cool being able to recognize all of the music you used instantly. so good. thank u friend
It's funny that my favorite episodes where the last one of each season and the ones I disliked being the first of each, even though they share the same girls. :P Not my favorite romance anime, but definitely a solid recommendation. Very well done.
I'd just like you to know that I followed this recommendation and my life is ruined forever now. I feel like I was exposed to the single best and worst galge VN adaptation and I liked it. Thanks bruv.
+Leo V The Prophet king I legitimately can't tell if you're kidding or not. In case you aren't, he's not upset about calling them "cartoons", but calling them "Chinese" cartoons. I'm pretty sure you know that though, as given what this channel makes, you'd have to be insurmountable stupid.
Love the fact you put kingdom hearts music and sonic adventure 2 escape from the city in here. Not what I came for but 2 of my favorite games. Well done.
These lists of yours always give me at least one show to add to my "Must Watch" list. _Midori no Hibi_ looks right up my alley. Thanks. :-) And it completely sucks that _Maison Ikkoku_ is unavailable in North America (afaik, being almost a year after you posted this), as it it, hands down, my favourite romantic anime. How anyone could _not_ love Otonashi Kyoko is beyond me.
Ahh, Midori days, I read chapter 1 of the manga a while back and laughed my ass off, takes me back. I should read it fully. How about Lovely Complex, have you seen that? It's imo the best high school romance anime there is (altho Kimi ni Todoke is my fav, LovCom #2). It's a very mature telling of an immature teen romance and is very genuine and honest and sweet and so so GENUINE, although I already said that lol. And yes, Baby Steps, ah I love that show. Along with Ace of Diamond, those 2 are the best modern sports anime have to offer.
I went into this video half-expecting to hear that you and your girlfriend broke up right before Valentine's Day (because misleading title). Thank god I was wrong.
For some reason your comments about Baby steps focusing on the relationship in a non romance anime made me think of the romance in Eureka 7. What are your thoughts on that romance?
Kimagure Orange Road is also a fantastic romance anime from the mid 1980's. There is a great combination of wacky supernatural hi-jinks mixed with love triangles and amazing characters. I'd say it's similar to Ranma 1/2 in that way, but KOR actually resolves by the end instead of egging the audience on. It's older but definitely worth a watch.
How could I be lonely if Right hand Chan is with me the whole day?
Because she's cheating on you with left hand-kun
Like, I know that was a masturbation joke, but was that an intentional poke at the final recommendation he gives? (Midori days.)
Right hand chan indeed loves him vry much.
very predictable comment, still made me lol. Upvote well deserved

Baby Steps deserves that!
A shame that the girl looks like an ugly boy mostly due to her hair, at 18:30 she looks dope....makes Bay Steps unwatchable for me

Fun fact: Romance is one of the genres Berserk is listed under on MAL.
Duwang Is Unbreakable Griffith did nothing wrong
Yeah, but genre tags are only there to help people search for or learn what the major themes of a series or a movie are. Putting them in just because something is "sort of there" is entirely missing the point of a genre tag. By the same virtue it should have "harem", "shounen", "shounen ai", "martial arts", "magic", etc., because all of those are there at some point.
...So MAL lists what genre the anime is on their own accord...
Wow. I really have to avoid MAL.
Buck Wade No don't. Join and add me.
In fact, everyone, add me on MAL.
Duwang Is Unbreakable
I can't tell if you're being serious or not.
I wouldn't have so much as a problem with MAL if their standards of good/bad anime in their reviews weren't all over the goddamn place.
Yes, I'm aware that different reviewers on the same website will offer different perspectives, but come on, what dude writes a proper critique on anime x, then the next dude writes, "Hmm, it was boring", and that's it.

>i won't be mentioning popular or renowned anime
>ranma½
Ye wot
Exactly my thoughts. Ranma is quite popular, isn't it? Or are we just THAT old?
When people see Harem animes that goes nowhere they say it's like "Nisekoi" not like "Ranma 1/2" so yeah I think it's only popular on the older generation.
But Nisekoi has a great proper ending in the manga....so those people are wrong. lol
Yeah I guess they are come to think of it Ranma 1/2 did have an open ending (well it did give heavy implication on who Ranma will end up with).

red lion alpha boku no Pico 😥
gotta recommend Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun. it's got a great cast of characters and has made me laugh aloud on several occasions haha
More comedy than romance tho...
Ah, but dnt get me wrong, it's fantastic. My favourite anime. Definitely watch it.

Learn English.
It's more like a comedy than a romantic anime, but funny af.
Well I wasn't feeling lonely 10 minutes ago, but I am now, thanks
lol did not expect love stage
Read the manga and was surprised to see it here too
Honestly, I’m not into bl, but this show.... was awesome
I can not believe that you did not mention Boku No Pico or Cory in the House. How could you Jeff.
He said he won't be mentioning insanely popular anime.
And Cory in the House is THE most popular anime of all time.
My recomendation is Inferno Cop
Truly the most romantic anime there is
blade runner next, best underrated slice of life rom-com anime ever
TheAdrinalina NANI?!?
Speaking of Slice of Life why not read Berserk

>wants do draw manga very poorly
if he wants to switch to anime i dont doubt toei animation has a good place LUL
3:34 was a poetic line from Geoff himself: "When you're feeling down all you want to do is laugh, and if that's the mood you're in few series will do you better than Ranma 1/2."
Straight poetry to brighten my Valentine's day.
Skip Beat! Is the the name :3
The revenge part sounds cool, but an anime about...singing, sounds boring to me.
It ends up about acting mostly.

I recommend (not just for MB but for anyone reading this) ~
"Doukyuusei": a very sweet and pure romance that I found quite heartwarming and refreshingly devoid of the many frustrating clichés that seem to define modern romance anime.

It's like the rape never happened!" ect.)
If you guys want a genuinely good BL story, may I suggest FAKE?
FAKE is really good but I feel like it's so underrated tbh
*SPOILERS*
I mean, he wasn't exactly molested.
I thought that it was an action anime from seeing a clip on TH-cam. Boy was I wrong. Still had a great time though. XD

I need to watch NHK super badly.

Fucking 10/10 show
it truly is a remarkable day in your career that the only series im interested in now on this tip 5 is the yaoi one, good job at making me feel gay.

Love Stage kind of disappointed me. and it did so in the exact way that all yaoi and BL seem to at the end of the day... because it really did all the physical intimacy stuff poorly.
to be clear: I can handle when a genre like this has like... forced kisses or something? it's not great, and I think the scenes where the main character was forcibly kissed, and groped, *and* had his clothes partially removed was too over the top, but I get that stuff like this plays off of the forbidden love trope, and acts as a catalyst for one (or in this case both) characters to figure out that they like each other physically, despite internalized homophobia. so sure. it's uncomfortable, but it's intended as a plot shortcut, not necessarily the fetishization of anyone's pain.
what I cannot stand, is that inevitable moment in every one of these stories where the obvious Guy Who Is Gonna Be The Bottom asks "will this hurt?" and the only answer he's given is "YES."
like, I know.
I feel like the show should've just picked one and made him genuinely try at that. like if he was *just* the main character struggling to get good at making manga, and then this hot guy takes an interest in him and offers to be his assistant as a way to get closer to him... or if it was *just* the main character wanting to get into show business because he wants to live up to his family's expectations/legacy, but he's got crippling anxiety and is struggling to work around it when this more experienced actor guy helps him out and the two start bonding from there... either one of those would've worked better played straight (or not, haha) but instead we got both, and both felt neglected.
anyway, that's enough highly irrelevant complaining from me...
happy single awareness day

Watching a yaoi doesn't make you gay. Watching gay hentai does.
im watching it now because of his recommendation on episode 4 im loving it thus far
@mariokarter13 What if both boys and girls are involved?
Does that make me bi? :v
I'm a tomato I wasn't expecting him to recommend it. It's my second favorite romance anime, but judging by the lack of a season 2, I figured people didn't take it well.
Are you familiar with the manga/anime "Dusk Maiden of Amnesia"?It's one of the best romance stories I've ever read/watched.
It's 23:00 where I live so the day is ruined already.
Well at least I have something to do for next year's Valentine.
Here it's 14:00 and not even Valentine's!
I don't have crushing loneliness.. I think that's something people exhibit when they aren't around someone as awesome as I am. Not me though, knowing other people just waters down the experience. Nyahahahaha....
Okay maybe I'm a little lonely but don't tell anybody! :
Geoff since you mention Toradora, have you ever considered doing What's an OP on Toradora....
Also Yuno is best girl!
crushing isn't enough to describe my loneliness
*cries.... A lot
It's my birthday today. I turned 18. Fuck
Gaelynn Hartmann It's my birthday too! Happy Birthday friend!
Bappy HIrthday, friendo
Gaelynn Hartmann I turn 18 when I'm an adult
Don't worry friend, Convergence is at hand so you won't have to worry about love anymore!
Bluecho4 It was a great show. It took me by surprise and I'd kill for a season 3.
*they had lots of sex after this*
Doesn’t watching romantic anime make your loneliness worse as It reminds you of what you don’t have.
i had to stop and comment cuz i heard traverse town music in the background... i can always hear even the faintest kh music in anything... why am i like this
I approve of all the kh music in this, i can hear it everywhere now and i love you for it
I'd love a plastic memories video! Keep up the good work Geoff! Loving all the content you've been putting out
Happy Valentine's Day, everyone.
Especially _you_, Geoff. Congratulations on you and your girlfriend, by the way. ;-)

His and Her Circumstances will always be my favorite.
Ranma is still one of my favorites. Akane was a tsundere before the term really become a thing
Takahata isn't gonna be happy about that girlfriend...
Geoff, why do you hurt us so?

Watching all of Ranma 1/2 has finally paid off in recognition of the series. Thank you for giving those days meaning.
Thank you so much for giving Natsuyuki Rendezvous some attention, it's such an amazing and underground anime.
We get it Geoff, we know you have a girlfriend and we know she's smart

I can't get past the faces in love stage
You should do another of these soon, there is so much good rom com anime
"Here's where things get complicated." I died
school days was pretty alright.
For me , Watamote is the only one I couldn't get through due to finding everything in it downright painful to sit through.
i think alot of people watch it to understand how bad it is.
FUCK YOU!!!!!
gingerbeargames boi
Omg while he was taking about Ranma he was playing the travers town music from kingdom hearts in the background!!!!
Dude, I was totally caught off guard with the Traverse Town theme. Nice choice! - From a Game Designer / Sound Designer
Princess Jellyfish is an adorable anime with a touching story about loss and finding a voice in a confusing world. There’s only one season so it leaves you wanting more but it’s one of my all time favorites and definitely worth a watch. Also there’s cross dressing
I'll just watch some Mumkey Videos instead.

The part about the "Chinese cartoons" is a joke, to all of those ignorant of that fact. It seems you haven't enjoyed anime long enough to be able to get or joke about that yet
Yeah... as someone who FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY just barely gets the difference between China, Japan, and Vietkorea I came down here just to check.
Shaming somebody for not understanding a joke by saying "you haven't enjoyed anime long enough" is pretty lame dude. You're not plus ultra...
samuel Eyyy just started watching that nice reference.
samuel Go beyond man, go beyond...
I am both someone who has barely started enjoying anime and also didn't get the joke, so it's good to know that it was a deliberate in-joke. Thank you for explaining that it was a joke and not a mistake; I was confused. (no sarcasm)

TBH I super respect you putting a BL anime on this list.
Amagami SS is my favorite romance anime of all time. I hope some of you guys check it out, it's super unique.
It is pretty good adaption of VN
It's funny that my favorite episodes where the last one of each season and the ones I disliked being the first of each, even though they share the same girls. :P
Not my favorite romance anime, but definitely a solid recommendation. Very well done.
I'd just like you to know that I followed this recommendation and my life is ruined forever now. I feel like I was exposed to the single best and worst galge VN adaptation and I liked it. Thanks bruv.
Tyrique Smith the animation was ugly atleast i think...
Chinese cartoons!?!?!?!!?!? I'm out!
Michael Arias I'm surprised no one has commented about that one yet. XD
Michael Arias Anime is Cartoons
it's a joke on the internet, a parody of people who've called anime "chinese cartoons" due to generalising all asian things to being chinese.
It's a J O K E
Love the fact you put kingdom hearts music and sonic adventure 2 escape from the city in here. Not what I came for but 2 of my favorite games. Well done.
These lists of yours always give me at least one show to add to my "Must Watch" list. _Midori no Hibi_ looks right up my alley. Thanks. :-)
And it completely sucks that _Maison Ikkoku_ is unavailable in North America (afaik, being almost a year after you posted this), as it it, hands down, my favourite romantic anime. How anyone could _not_ love Otonashi Kyoko is beyond me.
This man will find any ways he can to shill for Baby Steps and Rakugo. I'm on to you Geoff.
Thank god I was wrong.
fortunately he only ment our crushing lonelyness
For some reason your comments about Baby steps focusing on the relationship in a non romance anime made me think of the romance in Eureka 7. What are your thoughts on that romance?
Kimagure Orange Road is also a fantastic romance anime from the mid 1980's. There is a great combination of wacky supernatural hi-jinks mixed with love triangles and amazing characters. I'd say it's similar to Ranma 1/2 in that way, but KOR actually resolves by the end instead of egging the audience on. It's older but definitely worth a watch.
tfw kingdom hearts ost came out of fucking nowhere
laughs bc the kingdom hearts ost is in the love stage section when he talks about bl,,,,fitting bc kingdom hearts is gay af
Talk about kingdom hearts!, love to hear ur thoughts
LIKE RIGHT?
Baby Steps Geoff, Baby Steps.
I'm on the thumbnail.......Kirito exposed
the amount of joy i experienced the second he started talking about love stage was incomprehensible ngl
Thanks for the rec of Natsuyuki Rendezvous. I gave it a binge last night and thoroughly enjoyed it.
