    Anyone else notice the smartest guy is the only one who doesn't interrupt anyone? He sits quietly and respectfully...even though he doesn't get a full sentence out more than 7 times through the entire show. Respect Mr. Zappa. Respect.

      This happens in all forms of so called debate especially political. It amazes me that some interviewers or politicians think they are going to gain votes or popularity by name calling , interrupting, and trying to belittle an intelligent opponent. (as is the case here), but it amazes me more that there are people who can watch this kind of bad behavior and come to the conclusion that Zappa has no idea.

    John - "Why is it amusing?"
    Frank - "why shouldn't it be amusing?"
    John - "Well you're not smiling, you dont look too happy"
    Frank - "Why should I be smiling when I'm sitting next to you?"
    Hahahahaha Frank was a God

      I love that part, I don't know why that is so hard for so many to understand, this country was not founded on any religion nor was it intended to ever be governed by a bunch of zealots personal beliefs. Our forefathers new what they were doing and their intentions are shit on by every modern administration.

      @Austin Reihl Your errant and superficial reading of America's founding documents highlight your ignorance of US history. While some founders were Christian, several others were not, including Thomas Jefferson, a Deist, who penned the Declaration you quoted. Knowledge of Jefferson's Deism would have helped you to understand why Jefferson put "god" lower in the hierarchy of both the sentence structure and the logic of sentence's argument. "Laws of Nature" comes FIRST. Next, SECOND, is "Nature's God". Did you happen to notice the possessive structure where God is PART of Nature and NOT the other way around? If you were familiar with Deism, you would have recognized and understood this. The Declaration was also edited by Benjamin Franklin, another Deist, who scratched through the draft version that stated "We hold these truths to be sacred..." scratching out "sacred" and replacing it with "self-evident".
      Also note the specifically unspecific use of the phrase "their creator" instead of "the creator" - a subtle distinction that you no doubt missed, but it underscores how the founders recognized that individuals all have individual beliefs and the government should not be in the business of promoting one over another.
      I noticed you avoided bringing up the US Constitution - the law of the land. Clever. Your other references have zero legal consequence and no relevance to the founding documents. BTW - Frequency that Jesus, the bible, and Christianity are mentioned in the Constitution: ZERO. Do be sure to read Article VI though: "no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."
      Speaking of references, it's immoral to plagiarize another persons work - copying and pasting without referencing the author or source, as you did when you copied and pasted the dreck from the right-wing "Claremont Institute" (part of what the founders warned about and Zappa was warning against). They put out their fascistic crap hoping that gullible dupes will swallow it. How did it taste? - founding.com/natures-god/
      IF you want to learn about US history, READ SOME. If you want to learn about America's founding documents, READ THEM. Don't waste time on political pressure groups spinning RWNJ BS.
      Try this: www.archives.gov/founding-docs
      You're welcome.

      Hmmm so are you saying that their society is better ? Women are stoned in these places for being raped (as an example). For the record Zappa (in his own words in this interview) just admitted to being a conservative. It's fine to disagree with him but I don't think it's enough putting it out there that he is an Anarchist. You must explain why you think so. I find it hard to express the point here, that there is allot of trash in music and movies but I guess I would defend the right for the trash being made. It is up to the parents (I feel) to bring up their children with intelligence and patience. All topics discussed openly with understanding and forethought. I feel that if you bring up kids in this way they will also recognize trash entertainment from quality. Banning every questionable thing could be dangerous, it sounds like a dictatorship to me.

      David Topchiev over a 30 year career that is millions of dollars. 300k at the time of this interview was also worth significantly more than it is now. Also, he would have continued to make more money as his career progressed from royalties, shows, investments (he owned multiple labels and recording studios, and I’m sure invested privately a fair amount), the sheer amount of records he released would mean a constant amount of money coming in from royalties alone.

    I can't speak for anybody else, but for me, FZ was far and away the greatest classical composer of the latter half of the twentieth century. He could adlib beautiful musical compositions either on guitar or even just using hand signals against his band and the audience unlike anything I ever heard. He was a deep thinker, a social critic who could expose hypocricy and peel back layers of superficiality. He made his own way in the world and feared no one. "Legend" is an understatement.

    "We're talking about WORDS." Looking at the state of censorship on TH-cam, Twitter, even PAYPAL, and censorship laws being passed in Canada, Frank was right. And he points out that he's a conservative. "Do you think that you're protecting somebody by taking away words?" Thank you, Frank. This dogfight never gets old, and only becomes more relevant with the passage of time.

    Frank represents American ideals; what this country and freedom are all about! Right On Frank! John Lofton seems to represent what oppressive requiems like the Soviet Union and China are all about. Scary to think that this guy was a journalist for the Washington Times. He probably wrote articles that supported the ideals of oppressive and suppressive governments! Lofton is not American in any way, he's a Commie! How could anyone in 2014 agree with Lofton who is so far off base! God Bless Frank Zappa who stood up for out rights! God I wish Frank were still with us. What an amazing man who represents himself really well!

    Zappa has old school conservative mentality and you can't argue with that. The power of the government is supposed to be limited. Small government is the way it SHOULD be. If we allow the government to get bigger and bigger, then life as we know it will end up like the George Orwell novel, 1984.

    Zappa: "Tell me them, I haven't heard any"
    SAF: "Well you have to get out more, I don't think you're being candid with this"
    [Five seconds later]
    SAF: "Your group was called The Mothers of *the* Invention.."
    Zappa: "The Mothers *of* Invention.. you oughta get out more"
    Lofton didn't have a chance, this interview is a gold mine for witty comebacks.

      Fascism is North Korean Communists holding machine guns on my wife and her family and stealing all their food for themselves during the Korean War. Fascism like all other forms of socialism is about stealing other people's property instead of negotiating a mutually accepted exchange of goods and services. Censorship and gun control tend go along with it because that makes it easier to murder the unarmed crime victims you're stealing from and cover it up.

      This country is so far from becoming Marxist that I couldn't help but snort derisively at your comment. Do you also believe we just lived through "8 years of socialism" under the Wall St.-pandering, warmongering Barack Obama? We've had ONE President in the last 50 years as the exception to the above rule and his name was Jimmy Carter. We are not a Marxist nation and that is a damn shame because I'd rather live in a country where there actually were equal opportunities for all as opposed to rich white men exclusively. What the hell are you even doing on a Frank Zappa video in the first place? Zappa wrote music for people who think for themselves.

    • @obnoxiousoboe
      @obnoxiousoboe 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      *heavy sigh* Once again someone who CANNOT distinguish between actual socialism and national socialism, a fascist/corporatist ideology. At any rate, we are not moving towards a Marxist state. You seriously think Trump is a Marxist? What Trump has done so far is far from helping out the working class. I'm done wasting my time with these irrational comments.

    • @TulseLuper
      @TulseLuper 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That was an unfortunate typo. What I meant to say is that Carter is the only President who wasn't a warmongering, genocidal maniac. I'm going to go back and fix my comment. And hey, he's one of the few Presidents who's actually turned out to be a decent human being, so there's that. Anyway, at least I have the decency to admit my mistake. You're the one still calling Trump a Marxist based on no evidence whatsoever. Hell, even most Trump supporters would laugh at your for saying that. By the way, I never said you CAN'T watch Zappa videos. I just don't think you're learning much from them...or learning much generally. So no, you can't think for yourself and I'm no longer arguing with you. Life's too short.

    •  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MICHAEL SOWELL Yes sir. Thanks for the comment.
      I vacillate between extreme optimism and extreme pessimism... not sure about you...
      But with the awakening that's happening these days, maybe it'll be possible that enough of us will be able to see how we are intentionally divided along lines of politics (dem vs rep), religion ( belief vs non, or even sect vs sect), race (black vs white, etc), even gender (male vs female) and that we can have enough people willing to forget all those things and fight for what we all have in common.
      The things we all have in common are far too numerous to list- and the things that we fight about are very few.
      But we as a species tend to be motivated by the things we are extremely emotional about- and they tend to be negative.
      I think more and more, people are beginning to see through this ancient tactic of divide and conquer.
      We don't need everyone- that's a pipe dream. All we need is a dedicated core of people willing to stand side by side with people who we THOUGHT (but are not) were our enemies and be willing to fight back to back for our rights.
      (I'm having a rather optimistic day, it seems... ;)))))

    • @DennisBastian
      @DennisBastian 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      2eelShmeal
      To me it's not about fighting for anything. Just because someone wrote on a piece of paper that you can't say this and that or you can't do this and that doesn't mean you can't say it, doesn't mean you can't do it if you feel it's the right thing to say or do.
      You are free if you believe you are. It's all a magnificent mindfuck of epic proportions. It's not about fighting the oppressors, it's about realizing that all the power they have over you is the power you are willing to give them. You don't need them to sign a piece of paper telling you what you can or can't do. You can decide for yourself.
      I know that sounds easier than it seems. We have all been brainwashed since childhood to believe in such things as authority, guilt and shame. But they are merely concepts that we have subconsciously accepted to be true because they have been spoon fed to us all our lives. BUT THEY ARE NOT EMPIRICALLY TRUE. We just believe they are because we've all been programmed to do so.

      2eelShmeal Yes. You would think that in this day and age we would be beyond all those stupid things that divide us. But all those things still keep us busy to argue over. Abortion will never get resolved. Pro life/ Pro choice. Either way you are described as having no morals. Any debate that reaches no conclusions, especially a touchy and delicate issue as abortion will keep us arguing forever. I am not trying to bring down your optimism at all. Your point hit the nail right on the head. Talk shows would never have people like Zappa on there anymore. Anyone who speaks like he did are not welcome. It encourages to think. John Lofton doesn't encourage you to think. It's a childish way of trying to fluster people into saying "Fuck it! I can't deal with this guy!" Thats why Bill O'Reilly has his own show.
