    So the dnr is aware of all this inflation but wants to pass off another fee inflation on the"people" that are already dealing with tough times.

    The "Department" does not "own" the public lands in the state of Michigan as this state employee just stated. This is where the current department and NRC has gone wrong with their ideology of their role of management. The public lands are owned by the tax paying citizens of the state for public use. The role of the Department and NRC is to manage and PROTECT all natural resources on these lands in the best interest of the Resources and citizens. This is why they are funded by the citizens license fees and taxes. They are not the states "largest landowner" or free to manage as such.

    DNR is supposed to manage the resource not worry about being a reveneu stream for the state coffers. Slective cutting not clear cutting. Solar is only 30% efficient using hydro and natural gas is more efficient and cleaner.

    Instead of increasing liscense fees for hunting and fishing how about cutting back on giving away our tax payer money in Grants. Let's do an audit of the DNR and see where that goes. Is our money being spent responsibly now?
    Solar doesn't work in Michigan in December and January, especially in the snow belt. The People should decide not politicians or the DNR.

      I understand what you say, but that game does not stay on your land. It leaves and comes and goes as it pleases if you are bordering state land, and it goes to state land. If you ride a bike or fish, any of the rivers or lakes and take any of the fish that the Dnr plant then you need to pay for licenses for all that stuff hunting a fishing licenses take care of state parks, fishing, ramps, and everything else not just the

    No, to solar panels, it's a loser. No to huge license increases. People just aren't buying them as is. I remember when I had a wife and two kids. License fees were brutal. Inflation is already killing me in a state where governor Twitmire cage free eggs have raised egg prices alone 300%. For the 3 days I go out, I'll just stop hunting. If the proposal is to tear down our forests and put up nasty ass alternative energy sources which don't work, are ugly and permanently make an area unusable for hunting etc, I'd say we're on the wrong track.

      @wdtaut5650 23 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +6

      Right. My only disagreement is the "no _huge_ license increases". I say no increase at all. Their plan is, obviously, to propose a big increase so we don't kick as much when they raise it only about 50 to 75% of what they are saying now, as though they are doing us a favor and they'll expect us to be grateful. I don't see anything in this guy's talk that is an increased benefit to me. Why do I pay more for the same service? Time to write those letters to your legislators, folks.

    14:42 "The hyper inflation that we saw through covid..." You mean the hyper inflation that we saw through Democrats spending billions of dollars we don't have.
    18:34 "...seniors have become a much larger portion of our license buyers..." So, you think it makes sense to alienate the largest and most loyal customer group you have?
    That's enough. I am not going to try to comment on every aspect of this guy's presentation. It is total and typical bureaucratic B.S. Tell me this: How much would the DNR save if there was no "Executive Policy Advisor"? What does this guy do for us?

  • @RockCampbell-ry1gv
    @RockCampbell-ry1gv วันที่ผ่านมา +17

    Taylor is such a typical politician! Perhaps instead of raising fees, try being more frugal with expenses.
    Seniors would bear the brunt of the increases. Base goes from $5.00 to 13.25, Deer from $8.00 to$22.50, Turkey from $6.00 to $17.25 and fishing from $11.00 to $30.50.
    According to my math that is an increase from $30.00 to $83.50 for a senior for those four licenses. That means nearly tripling the cost for seniors. As he mentioned, the seniors make up a sizable group when it comes to hunting and fishing. If you drive the seniors out of hunting and fishing, you’ll be right back asking for more.

    Instead of using state land for solar arrays why not put them on the land already owned and cleared by the power companies under existing powerlines. There have to be enough cleared acers under these lines to put as many solar panels as the state could want. These lands offer immediate access to the existing power grid.

    My response to the increase in license fees will be to buy less tags and participate in fewer hunting opportunities. Instead of a combo tag, antlerless, elk application, bear application, spring and fall turkey and fishing, I'll buy a single deer and fishing license only. Where are all of the $$$ going from the clear-cutting logging operations in northern Michigan? Many of my old hunting areas are wide open "parking lots" with all of the tops left on the ground. Nothing is growing up and through the mess that's left behind. Nothing cleaned up and nothing replanted. The NRC and the DNR are doing a spectacular job!

    Looking at the deer license fees it looks like it costs $11 for a base license and $20 for one kill tag, $40 the deer combo. So, either $31 or $51 depending on the license you choose. Here in Kentucky I pay $27 for a "Annual hunting" license, then $35 for a statewide deer permit, which allows me 4 deer, only 1 can be a buck. I can purchase a "Sportsman License" which covers hunting/fishing license, deer permit, spring and fall turkey, waterfowl permit and trout permit for $95, which is what I normally do. If I just wanted to hunt deer, then I'm paying $62. I really don't think your fees for deer hunting are "excessive." I grew up in Michigan and still come back every year to bow hunt and gladly pay the $171 it costs me for a nonresident archery tag.

    I was shocked this DNR rep compared public land lease for natural gas with that of solar. Natural gas provides a lot of relatively clean energy and the wells require very little land space. In contrast, solar panels take HUGE areas of land to implement, are not energy efficient, and are ugly. A BIG NO to solar on public land!

  • @mickeymcafee7615

    We should be working on no licenses required for private landowners. The DNR doesn't manage my deer or small game. I do and i pay taxes on it allowing deer small game etc refuge. If anything the state should pay me for the refuge of game animals. And requiring hunters to get a small game passport and all species fishing is another loser idea in a long line of loser ideas. My uncle only fishes for bluegills. He only hunts deer. What you've effectively done is to tie his hands and force him to purchase far more than he wants or needs. I realize the states got deep pockets. Our representatives are waaayyy over paid. So for them a few hundred dollars isnt much. But think of the majority of us. The Joe and Julie 6 pack hunters working at low wages trying to pull together $300 for licenses alone. Let alone the gas etc for a once a year hunting trip. Youre making it into a rich mans sport. Which i think inevitably is the idea.

This will show the state don't "F" with our lifestyle and our wallets. Hell can't even afford a load of bread. Those licenses are how most of us Feed our families. And the passports are a joke! We are paying for something that's not even being kept up. Then things that have been there for years not needing a passport. Now you do. Money hungry STATE!

    With the license increase maybe do a discount license to people who are poverty level. We struggle to make ends meet as is because of policies made by people who are well off and think its a "sport" instead of a way to feed our families affordably. I can raise a turkey (guruntee of meat) for the same price if not cheaper than the proposed increase. Once the cost to hunt goes past price to raise your own there's no point to hunt. I
    And as for solar I'm sorry but the DNR is supposed to protect the people's land it's not theirs unless we've moved back to the middle ages and it's the "kings land" If put to solar it should be put to a vote by the people. And people should vote on who runs the DNR. And they should be audited every 4years with the info available to everyone.

    NO to renewable energy. It’s a loser. When is the ROI for the tax payer?Where do solar panels go when they go bad? It’s not cost affective to reclaim any reusable material in them. A gas or oil well takes up an acre or two. Solar fields are hundreds of unusable acres for the hunter/tax payer. So there’s not really a comparison that he used. Great episode. Keep it up. And DNR, keep the prices down.

And the solar thing we need to put it up to a vote not just let the MDNR use it as they want because obviously they think they can. The state is at 15% solar/ wind energy and they want to be at 60% when their done. Of all the turbines and solar we have now theyll have to take out the majority of farmland or the majority of woods pick one so we can know if we are going to starve or not have oxygen.Taxes pay for those lands. Tax payers need to be reimbursed for them if they sell them. Not get a second charge from an energy company. We gotta be getting tired of paying taxes and our reps buying something for us and selling it so it can be used to give us another bill. Drug companies do it now its going to be the electricity companies. Great so when is tax payer going to win. I guess we're not.
