  • Studies have found that Singapore has some of the highest burnout rates globally each year, with a regional survey highlighting the republic's workforce as one of Southeast Asia's most mentally taxed. Key culprits include long hours, relentless deadlines and a shaky work-life balance. Nikhil Khattar reports, while Mr Adrian Lim from Family Counselling Psychologist shared more about mental health stressors and ways to seek help.

    They are all beating around the bush, without addressing the main issue. Just like other well developed democratic countries, Singapore workforce need " right to disconnect" from work after 6.00 pm. No emails or messages need to be answered beyond that time.

    I'm burnt out as a full time corporate worker at 24 (2 years in), juggling part time uni, the weekends fly by quicker than a snap of a finger. All we look forward to are weekends for months on end. Leaping at the chance for an escape whenever there's free time. Us born in the year 2000 are no longer kids having fun. While I’m well aware of how blessed I am, especially before more responsibilities start coming in; having my own family, housing, chasing the bag etc. The issue at hand here is the unending and growing workload causing constant burnouts for the dwindling general workforce, there wouldn’t be a mental health crisis and high suicide rates if it’s all fine and dandy isn’t it? the general cost of living is on an unstoppable upwards trajectory, can't imagine another 40 years of this tbf

    Got burn out just 4 months into a new job. The manager give instructions every day near midnight. When ask to tackle a task, no clear instructions/objective was given. Even the clients had to step in. This sense of super uncertainty of what sh*t gona come tonight and what I suppose to do at work took a toll on me. Now I am broken, jobless, seeing psychiatrist and therapy.
    Do not take it lightly of mental health, just a few months can break you. Run when you still can. I was paralysis, I always wonder why people are suicidal due to a job. When you are under extreme stress, you don't think right, the world seem hopeless with no way out.

    • @cumuluscloud2
      @cumuluscloud2 12 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +4

      This was exactly me. Getting emails at midnight. Whatsapp on weekends asking me to work. The instructions kept changing on a daily basis as well, no SOP, the SOP only exists like a roti prata in her head 😂
      Do take a good break, know that how you were treated was a reflection of the other person and not you. Your value is not tied to a job. You're not broken, you're learning. Keep up the good fight

It's easy to out compete other american students, and then other American co-workers. Winning scholarships, internships and recieved several promotion when I started working. Life is just much less competitive and stressful outside of Asia.

    What stress? Gov sector mostly stop working before office hours, same as bank branches! Maybe it’s hdb corridor clutters or all those bicycles anyhow parking under hdb blocks, all obstructing people walking thru properly, creating stresses around homes. Town councils certainly is not stress by leaving those problems alone until fire breakout when people cannot evacuate smoothly or gets injured. They really need to impose fines to efficiently put an end to such bs.

Was it not invented yet in the early 2000s; like why only now? i think it’s not that the social sciences and medicine didn’t understand these well back then, but perhaps our unwillingness to broach an inconvenient issue perhaps? not sure.
