The BEST part about the boss rage live?
The fact that the music said "Sephiroth!" before the victory screen faded after Max screamed his triumph, sort of like when Cloud beat Sephiroth in Advent Children.

Fighting Seph on this level was me saying "lol let's try this" as a joke and coming back *much* later to actually beat him. The fact that Max just willingly did this for the challenge is absolutely insane.

My first time fighting Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts 2, I nailed the Block Reaction Command right away. I don't know how I was able to do it perfectly on the first attempt; I guess my reaction speed was just that fast?
The fact that Sephiroth escaped to Smash to live a relatively easier life there, only for Sora to follow him and torment him for eternity. Oh the Despair. . .
Now he gotta deal with Cloud and Sora 😂
@@acecashman1237 No for Sephiroth Cloud is much easier to deal with but with Sora he's just like "I ain't having this conversation" not because he is scared of loosing to Sora but because he is annoyed of Sora.
Everyone loves the "Sephiroth is scared of Sora" meme, but Sephiroth utterly destroys Sora multiple times before Sora gets a single win, and if I remember correctly he's just like "cool moves bruh" and leaves to find Cloud.
@@gogokowai Yup that's exactly how it happened!...Also Sephiroth did not leave to find Cloud,Sephiroth asked Sora to find Cloud and bring him to him,so in a way he did kinda go to find Cloud, but not personally,hence he asked Sora to find Cloud and bring him to him.
@@gogokowai No they only fight once. Your losses are your own Sephiroth kills you to steal your Keyblade if you lose so the one time they fight Sora wins. But he can't actually kill Sephiroth and turn his wing into a Keyblade so he goes and finds Cloud so they can settle the debt.
Max has officially earned my respect I would never have the patience to even attempt this if it took him 6 hours and 300+ deaths to finish
Its really not as bad as he makes it look, he uhh... he seemed to still be struggling with basic gameplay, because this was not a Lv1 Crit Blind attempt, this was worse, he had minimal clue how to play KH2(which does feel significantly different from KH1), though it seems someone told him The Good Abilities, or his save was just pre-kitted from the go because I didn't see Dodge Slash and I did see Horizontal Slash
Aw come on, THIS is what makes Max earn your respect? This is a dude with tournament-level fighting game skills, has been oficially recognized by Capcom as a great influence on the FGC, has had FF7 developers watch his videos for inspiration, and, honestly I don't even think this was the hardest boss-rage he's done. There's the MK9 that took about 8 hours and also the Biofreaks one where they pretty much were the first people in history to ever beat that game on the hardest dificulty
@@chiyo-chanholocaust8143 all of that happened before I joined the FGC and Max's community in my defense, this is also the first Boss Rage I actually watched aside from the first KH Sepihroth he did but that one boiled down to I-frames vs I-frames XD.

@@chiyo-chanholocaust8143 I think the Fatalis one was longest (and possibly one of the hardest). It took three days to beat, at about 8-10 hours a day I believe.
Edit: actually the time totaled 14 hours over 3 days for Fatalis. Still the longest, but certainly not 8 x 3 hours long.

Sora really can’t escape the number 13, can he?
In the first game they got Sephiroth's wielding hand wrong, since he's left handed and he uses his right in that. I'd like to think that he actually takes it easy on Sora there by not using his dominant hand. In this game the gloves are off and he uses his left with combos all over the place with a much more aggressive style. Though that's just some random "headcanon".
Even after you beat him, all he says is “I admit you’re very skilled,” and then basically tells Sora to fuck off and come back with Cloud. He doesn’t seem to be trying in this fight either.
It’s most likely that Sora was just an appetizer to him and the main course is Cloud
Kinda like how in Dark Souls, you fight Artorias with his dominant hand being wrecked, so he's using his off hand and still beating your ass. Meaning, if he had his left that he'd likely be impossible.

What a perfect start 🤣 definitely sets the amount of despair Max is about to face for the next few hours.
Pay attention to the lighting on Max's face cam from the beginning of this video till the end. By the time he was done 10:49 the sun was up. Yet Max didn't even seem fazed, it's af if he was under a Trance.
This was an amazing moment to see live. Kudos to those who stayed and watched the whole 12 and a half hour stream from beginning till the end. Seeing Max make slow but steady progress eventually leading to his victory in the end was so worth it. Just simply an amazing show of determination and persistence. Congrats to Max. Glad it didn't take him 358/2 attempts to beat Sephiroth.

@@OrvilleScott The whole stream was 12 and a half hours, with the Sora vs Sephiroth fights taking up more than half of the total runtime. The rest was between the Heidern KoF trailer, the Smash Ultimate trailers, Hello Fresh sponshorship, etc.

Doing this fight and understanding that Kingdom Hearts - 2 in particular - can be so much more than a button mashing game is what many of us fans really love about the game.
It feels like a Dark Souls and DMC secret love child, it’s so great.
I struggle with systems that get even mildly complex when I'm also juggling the real time combat.
So on top of that KH is very strange to me. I get what makes it fun and interesting but it's surprisingly difficult to crack opem
Try playing against Twilight Xemnas on Proud Mode at level 50 when you actually need to avoid his attacks it becomes insane how deceptive his attack patterns actually are.

Actually a really fun fight system too which I wish other games used too.

I think the Sephiroth fight in 1 is harder than 2, mainly because Sora can do so much more in 2. But yeah when you decide not use any of that, I'd say 2 definitely has the more difficult fight.

1 can be harder but it can be easier due to the I frames sora gets with limits in that game. It’s all about knowing the system max abused more of kh 1 stuff compared to this fight
1 also lacks critical mode & level 1 restrictions. You can make the game harder on yourself in various ways, but they're all arbitrary.
@@Malisteen kh 1.5 hd added level 1 restriction for proud mode in kh 1.
1 has a learning curve due to the jankiness while 2 can be significantly more bewildering due to the faster pace.
Both have ways to make Sephiroth much easier but take those rules out and play like a Gentleman and it's a matter of jankiness versus flashiness.
Both have the most cheesiest way to win:
KH1 - Jump and hit, over and over and over again
Kh2 - Reflega just Reflega
I can't even imagine how much this man would suffer if he tried to fight Lingering Will. That said, good job, dood; that fight took me a couple weeks on normal at level 60 when I was younger lmao

@@chadchinaman7544 Once the fight starts the first song is “Wrath of the Harrier” from ffxiv. The rest are various FF7 music remixes that I do t know the origins off unfortunately.

Lingering will took me days to beat and then I was like let's do it again right after beating him, I then proceeded to beat him no problem, lol.

@@SwagMaster824 Nah, it's because we usually get frustrated because LW doesn't follow a single pattern, so it's pretty hard to stay calm and learn everything. But if you see a breakdown from the fight (I recommend a youtuber named Everglow that made the Ultimate guide for this fight) it's actually pretty amazing and well made

As someone played kh (mostly 2) for years, seeing anyone finally getting how the fight on secret boss/superboss works like at the 12:16 is really satisfying.

Kingdom hearts 2 is just such a good game. Amazing mechanics and difficult boss fights. Critical mode is so fun in that game. Would be so cool to see you do more of the difficult fights from the game like the data fights and lingering will, keep up the awesome content man.
Yeah. Sephi is one of the easier bosses in the entire game honestly. Lingering Will makes it look like a baby fight
Man. I give you massive props for accomplishing this. I've not played the final mix version yet but you encapsulated exactly how I felt with a properly leveled Sora on Easy lmao
Sephiroth is one of those fights where he's a pain in the ass on your first playthrough, but as you play more and learn more, you realize that he's a very well crafted and fairly easy fight. Anybody acting like Max struggling was bad are being a bit ridiculous, given that it was his first time, and it was a CRITICAL LEVEL 1 RUN. Even the most veteran of players struggle on Critical Level 1 runs.
Personally, I think Sephiroth is the last well crafted boss in KH, every boss later on are madness of run, run, run, hit, run, run, run, hit, repeat.
@@passbyicecube I will argue Lingering Will is also a pretty well crafted but i have to agree "Run and Wait' part on him but Lingering Will is just a perfect "Final" you're used to control the flow of the fight, but now He control the flow and you have to react, but the fact that you can block like 90% of his moves and his mechanic are the mechanics you've seen before makes him challenging but fair.
I can attest to that. Heck, try going Critical Lvl 1 Kingdom Key *with a fight stick*. I guarantee you, new level of difficulty.
That and not having developed good controller muscle memory for this game by not playing the game up to this point would be difficult as well.

I never thought I would see a Kingdom Hearts Boss Rage, man this is a treat. And to think there r bosses in this series harder than Sephiroth but the fact we're getting this Boss Rage at Level 1 Critical no less is freaking nuts man. Sakurai did a legendary thing and so did Max.
Wow, awesome work Max. This fight is rough enough even with the appropriate tools and levels. I have such fond memories of this fight. Probably still my absolute favorite boss fight in all of my gaming experience.
Putting in the Diablos Armament theme in this was a niiiiice touch.

This is like my personal favorite boss in ALL of gaming. Love this fight, the energy, the quick timing you need. It’s so rewarding when you beat him.
I was watching this stream until he finished the KH1 version of the fight. I woke up around 8 am and Max was STILL fighting him! 30 seconds before the 12 hour stream mark, I witnessed Max finally beat Sephiroth on stream. Shit was nuts. Congrats on the blind run on the hardest difficulty available. Love your tenacity.

@@gerettdiamond not entirely. Once you get the pattern figured out, and I mean by trial and errors, Sephiroth becomes fun boss battle. Now, if you don't have high jump, aerial dodge or quick run then it's difficult. Max has all of that on which makes it easier.

Well, ideally you've been playing the game for over 30 hours at this point, so your used to selecting the right menu in the middle of a crazy boss fight.
Not to mention the quick menu and auto abilities for when your health is low.

When he floats up to cast that “heartless angel” bull crap that brings you down to 1HP, you can leap up and air combo him to stop it. Also works when he’s about to cast Meteor. Makes the fight infinitely easier.

As someone that has played all the KH games on the hardest difficulties I think we all know Sephiroth fights are like the easiest compared to some of the other optional bosses I wanna see him tackle those xD

to be fair, i'm pretty sure KH Sephiroth can only be beaten by Cloud, so it's not really a thing about sora being too weak, the matchup just sucks. or to use an analogy fitting to Sora's weapon... Sora has a skeleton key, but Sephi-lock needs one of those car-type keys (funny enough for the analogy, you get a keyblade that looks like a car key for beating him here)

This was great! I remember spending soooo much time on this boss fight growing up. Literal days spent trying to beat this boss. Still one of my favorites though 👌🏽

Sorry to say Max, but Sephiroth was the hardest boss in the VANILLA version of KH2.
Final Mix (the version in all the HD ports) added a new hardest bossfight.
Still nothing when compared to the Mysterious Figure from BBS.

I don't think there are buffs in KH (except for 3) aside from the permanent stat boosting ones.

KH2 Sora VS Sephiroth CPU, Stamina Battle no items at Hollow Bastion was literally the first Smash match I did when Sora dropped.
Just, wow. I got into your channel from your Sephiroth Smash reaction, I cried like a baby when I saw it just like I did with Sora lol. I've been a KH fanboy since I was 8 years old when it came out in 2002. I had no idea who Sephiroth was other than the meanie who introduced me to what a super boss is. Took me longer than I'd like to admit to give FF7 a chance but after I did I see everyone's fascination with the guy, not that I didn't before because man he gave me chills when I saw him in KH2! I actually beat him in 2 quicker than 1! I know you don't like the KH series much but I'm really glad you did this and I got to see someone I admire share the pain with those of us who got to experience these fights! I'd like to think my experience with these games softened the difficulty of Dark Souls games, giving me the endurance and learning aspect at least. Thank you for this can't wait for you to try the harder KH bosses! :P

Max went through the entire KH2 player life cycle in the span of about 6 hours when it took me 3 years. From dying in the first 3 seconds to using trinity as a kill confirm.
Oh the fan rage against Max doing this… and yet one could argue that he was probably the craziest of any of them if he decided to go all in with this fight and with little actual experience with the games. Oh, this was a fun experience to watch unfold.

In kh2 when it first came out, the entire game was way easier. So they added critical mode in the rejapanese ports.
even with crit mode, it is still a joke. the only hard about kh2 is the sidequest/minigames especially in the rerelease was the annoying fking mushroom just stay on the fking air you fking mushroom! I hate that shit so much that I had to fking used a gameshark for infinite MP for thunder spamming the beejesus out that damn mushroom.

@@ShirouBrando Sadly, no. Max said he has no interest in going back to any of the KH games after he finished this Boss Rage.
I have very fond memories of sitting with my best friend back when we were like 12, taking turns to try and take down this boss. Of course, in hindsight we were probably way under leveled, but the excitement of getting so close was incredible
I'm glad to see him doing the KH2 Sephiroth fight, it's really just super fun! I know he doesn't really like KH as a series but man I wish he also did some of the other fights in 2 and 3 just to enjoy them, because the Data org is great in both. Yozora and Lingering Will are also really great bosses too.
