Black swans aside, such as a regional war in the Middle East, the Philippines' reliance on remittances should be a cause of concern, in addition to the effect of AI on BPO business in the Philippines. Both of these sectors have so far been critical in balance of payment that is propping up the peso. As preparation for future trends, the Philippines should really concentrate on improving productivity in the agricultural sector, developing renewable energy sources, education, moving up the value chain, paying close attention to development gaps of rural and urban areas. AND the critical need to harness oil and gas deposits in the South China Sea by cooperating with China. Peace through development and regional cooperation is the key, IMHO.
