    Unlike the X95, the Tavor 7 has an adjustable gas block. And it's in .308. And you can get a 20" barrel kit for it (or leave it with the 16"). And you can lock the charging handle back by tilting it up slightly to do a bullpup HK slap.
    What I'm trying to get at here is do a video on the Tavor 7.

    • @Dylan-nv9sc
      @Dylan-nv9sc ปีที่แล้ว +49

      IWI really needs to update the X95 with the benefits of the 7. One of the biggest being able to swap the left hand eject without needs additional parts.
      Only real downside to the 7 is that it’s unreliable with harder primers.

      @@WKidd1776 I haven't had that issue with mine, since multiple optics are doing it my only guess is there's something weird on going on with the rail on the gun itself. It is removable, so maybe the screws just aren't fully tightened or something? I'd get in touch with IWI and see if they can figure it out.

    I think the thing that people often don't appreciate about the Tavor - it was designed by IWI for use by the IDF. Full stop. So the engineers designed the rifle with very specific use scenarios and didn't care that in all these other scenarios it wouldn't be as ideal. In the West we tend to build our weapons as versatile as possible, with the maximum ability to modify uses; but the Tavors are the opposite. It is intended to be used by frontline IDF troops, entirely manufactured in Israel (as a result of previous Western arms embargos). I love my X95 and use it for a ton of things, but if I am carrying for a situation it isn't ideal I switch back over to something else that is. The Tavor is a work truck - meant for the job site, so don't expect leather and a heated seat.

    I've had the original Tavor (pre-X95) for about eight years now. I bought it right before the X-95 was rolled out. The factory trigger was simply awful but easily corrected with the Geissele drop in you and others have mentioned. I'm a recently retired DEA agent and used an approved 16" LWRCI AR at work for search warrants and other enforcement operations. Can't tell you how much easier, smoother, and more ergonomic I found the Tavor for building clearing and was so frustrated it was a weapon I couldn't use at work. So much easier to smoothly pivot through a house's doorways and corners with that short bullpup instead of a full length AR. I think those constricted urban spaces and buildings are where you really start to appreciate the advantages of bullpups and are more forgiving of their weaknesses. Great review! Thanks for finally doing the Tavor!

    From my own testing, removing that little barrel ring depends on how much stuff you have on the polymer handguard rails. If you keep it slick, it doesn't make any noticeable difference. But if you have chonky lights hanging off it or use a vertical grip, you absolutely should remove it. It doesn't "improve" accuracy so much as it preserves accuracy against other factors.
    Also highly recommend the ShootingSight high energy recoil spring to help mitigate the overgassing and resulting recoil, and it does not impair reliability unsuppressed. If you're willing to shell out hundreds of dollars to replace a perfectly serviceable trigger, consider dropping 30 bucks on a spring first.

      Never used the A1 (thank God - too young to have joined at that time). That was terrible and the A1's reputation is what has stuck with the L85 to the present day.
      A2 is/was much more reliable and has been used in armed conflicts and won plenty of engagements. It's a battle proven rifle. The issue is that from 2000 onwards, better rifles were available and could have been procured, which is why we could never understand why the L85 was held onto (bean counters digging their heels in i guess). Still, the British Army and Royal Marines have been fighting and winning battles with it and the deployments speak for themselves. The only other rifles I would trust are the X95/Tavor, C8 or an M4. I say that because these rifles are used in conflict and have seen a lot of active use over the last twenty years plus also. They are all battle proven. I can't say that for much else out there. SLR's (FAL's) and G3's would fall into the battle proven category also.
      Never used the A3 but I've seen a lot of the blokes compliment it some over the A2. I think the service life of the L85 ends in 2025 anyway and the A3 was just done to extend it up to that point until something new is procured.

      Getting any version of the British L-85 is not going to happen. Due to Federal anti-gun legislation. The Federal Firearms Act of 1984 stopped the importation of most firearms. Unless there is a specific amount of US made parts. This is how various Kalashnikov rifles are imported into the US. So if someone in the UK can make a contract with one of the US manufacturers to finish the assembly for sale in the American market there can be a tremendous benefit. Importation of certain firearms is just prohibited by US Federal law.
      This is why Sig, H&K, Beretta and FN have factories in the US. A new rifle in the American market is the Croatian VHS bullpup rifle. HS Produkt of Croatia and Springfield Armory of the USA made contractual agreements. HS Produkt makes the VHS rifle with some modifications and Springfield Armory make certain parts to make the rifle legal. This is a tremendous opportunity for HS Produkt in that there were $1.7 million in sales to the USA in 2022 alone. The VHS rifle was renamed the Hellion for the American market.
      So whoever makes the L-85/SA-80, may just want to get themselves an opportunity like HS Produkt has done.

    I recently acquired a Tavor 7 and it addressed some of the criticism you have with the X95. It has an adjustable gas block, comes with an ambidextrous fire selector, and the bolt release is no longer on the bottom near the mag well, but rather there's a notch on the charging handle where you lock the bolt and allows you to even give it a classic MP5 slap. I haven't shot it enough to determine gas yet nor have I tried long range, though I do know the system was purposely designed for urban combat which is one of the reasons why the Israelis moved to the Tavor from the M4. I find disassembly to be rather simple as well.

    It’s a compromised system but one important aspect for some of us is that it is compliant with mass laws while remaining short overall, using ar mags, having a pistol grip (gauntlet), and being as close to an sbr style weapon system as is possible within the draconian state laws. It’s definitely quirky in some ways but I’ve grown quite fond of it over the years, heavy but well balanced, it runs reliably and it is a unique conversation piece at the range. If it weren’t for laws, I’d trade it and a not inconsiderable amount of money for a gq paladin carbon in 8.6 in a heartbeat.

    I've owned the Tavor SAR21 for almost 10 years. Never bit on the x95, but also own a Tavor 7 now. The gassing on SAR21 and x95 are extremely valid points. Luckily, I have an OSS can. The Tavor7 addresses many of the issues, but it's in 308. The 45 degree throw is ball busting nice on the Tavor7. That itself makes me reach for it half of the time for the range.
    The SAR21's charging handle is angled so I could not mount a Dbal D2 on it by itself. I ended up using a Unity Riser to clear my charging handle. I also took a dremel to my SAR21 to mimic the HK lock back on the Tavor7. It works. It freaking works. A much needed improvement in the old design. I'm sure the same could be done to the x95. It makes malfunction clearing so much easier.
    As much of a die hard fan I am of my bullpups, Daddy Garand hits all the points on the head. There is no free lunch and I'm surprised he did not complain about the overall weight of the gun vs AR15's. Heavy, sure, but you only really notice that when you sling it. When you are shooting the weight is mostly in the back so you don't notice. (My AK feels more heavy and awkward than the 7 does despite being a lot lighter.)

I knew going in that gas might be an issue which is why I have OSS cans that I can run on multiple platforms, not just the X95. The Flow 556k can was made for it! Great combo. Also drop a few bucks on the Manticore Arms ejection port seal and the gas problem becomes nonexistent. I also added the Manticore Optimus handguard which somehow improved the accuracy. I think because it adds more rigidity to the overall frame and essentially free floats the barrel.
    After thousands of rounds, I’ve never had a failure of any kind. If the SHTF, this would probably be the first rifle I’d grab. But that’s just me.

    • @jarvy251
      @jarvy251 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Length doesn't really matter for accuracy, it gives you more velocity. The X95 is going to shoot flatter and give you better terminal effects at range than an AR of equal length. An equally PRICED AR will be more accurate, certainly. It's a balance of pros and cons.

    I don't know why this video popped into my algorithm, but I'll leave a comment.
    I served 3 years with this rifle in a special ops unit (and still do in reserves) in the IDF and I've been trained by one of the first officers to receive this rifle and basically formed the fighting methodology with this rifle for the IDF.
    First of all, you're using it mostly right so that's good. But the major thing to understand with this rifle is that it was designed for the IDF infantry and how the ground forces operate in combat. There are several versions of the service Tavor( the x95 is the micro Tavor- the older brother is the Tavor), with a longer barrel for sharpshooters and grenade launchers.
    Yes, it is less accurate, but I've seen very long and great shots with this one. The IDF mostly fights in urban areas rather than open areas, so its more efficient to have a shorter rifle that is less accurate but is very reliable (and it is, it shoots even when its full of mud) that can "catch corners" easier and is very easy to use.
    And let's not forget, it's cheaper to make these than to buy M4s from the US.

Shooting an AR-15 is difficult even with a front grip because my arms are extended to their maximum, and I can't quite keep her steady. I bought a Tavor SAR instead. With the weight to the back of the weapon at my shoulder and the shorter overall length, I can hold it more steady and fire more rapidly with greater accuracy. For all those gun guys married to short wpmen, a bullpup might be the way to turn her into a gun gal! Seriously, I am more inclined to ask for a range day since acquiring my Tavor.

Since I can't run a suppressor in Canada the over gassing just gives me those sexy black streaks. My only complaints are with the mediocre accuracy after coming from a very accurate AR-15, and while it's easy to field strip...it's not easy to clean in the field. So as a leftist and communist sympathizer, you believe in the abolition of private property, the centralization of banks, the elimination of religion, replacing God with the State, the destruction of family as the basic unit of society, reeducation and forced labor camps, and genocide. That is sick; we are NOT allies. We are enemies. Conservatives believe in individual liberty and responsibility, and freely being able to worship God. We believe in law and order, and good morals. We believe in protecting unborn babies. We believe that govt should be formed as a REPUBLIC, not a DEMOCRACY, because democracies always devolve into dictatorships. Having a fairly compact cq package like this that is able to be suppressed would be very diverse in the field. After spending the past several years with my X95, I do like it, especially after adding the Geissele trigger pack and lightning bow trigger. I've used it in a variety of settings, including multi gun competitions in very hot and sandy environments and it's had very few malfunctions.
    Although I think it's a decent rifle, I don't think the cost justifies choosing it over other options. If I'd known then what I do now, I wouldn't have bought it.

      I agree with your conclusion. I have over $2300 invested in my x95 to make its barrel almost free floating and super operating Geissele trigger pack with the lightning bow trigger, plus Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8x24. But that pencil barrel in my case 18.5 inches just flexes too much resulting in no better than 2 MOA with good ammo. The cost involved does not cover its accuracy. I am a gun collector so I will keep my x95 and hope that IWI will come up with a medium-profile barrel for it soon to improve the accuracy!

      Same. I put the lightening bow and trigger pack in. Manticore Arms ejection port cover and charging handle. My only gripe now is that supposedly I'm ruining it by using a can on it. Something compact like a bullpup was meant for confined spaces where you would want a can. Oh well. Guess I'll see if she dies on me

      I wanted it because it was different. As a first gun. I would always suggest a quality direct gas AR. Get to know it inside and out and train with it. Then venture into other rifles
