The times we are right and the successes in our lives don't make us who we are. It's the days we are wrong and the mistakes we have made which make the biggest lessons in life and thus, who we become. Never fear being wrong, only fear not learning from it.

This shows the gentleness, strength and intelligence of a true man to show kindness to an animal and think about what kind of life it must have had before it made it to your hands. We learned to fetch…started with my dropped glove. I really just trained him like a dog. He turned into a fantastic horse. Short short sessions of interesting activity. Took him out and saddled up. Hi Dwayne.. I rode a penchecking horse at a feedlot one time that was soured... you are right. These can be sensitive introverted horses that will only take what they perceive as drudgery for so long..then they start passively resisting.. the horse I rode had been rode with a correction bit and spurs ( to try and get him to respond snappier).. I started riding him with a rope halter and letting him make choices instead of forcing him to do what needed to be done..in 2 weeks that horse had spark of life showing in him and had stopped balking at every dead steer carcass and stopped trying to crush my foot on fence posts.. sometimes all it takes is looking at it from their perspective..thanks for the great vids and good luck with the horse!

A year or so ago, we were chasing down some medical issues, and in a esophagus biopsy they found I had the ever-so-slight beginnings of Barrett’s Esophagus (pre-cancerous condition). Not too much, though.

Greay video, I love that you're sharing this with humility. It isso important to get to "I don't know" with horses.
I'm a trainer and have a similar horse who I rescued from going for meat last December. Very similar attitude, breed, size, age, but she's a mare. The way the training progressed at first was similar too. Currently she can be trail ridden, but she's slow and not happy about it. Even though she's living a great life on acreage in a small, happy herd of mares, she is generally not happy. I'm starting to feel it's a gut issue. She had parasites, and we're still dealing with that. Ulcers are also common. I think it's a combination of past experience with harsh methods, getting away with a lot, and not being comfortable in her gut, which makes her grumpy generally, and sometimes not interested in moving.

Just wanted to share something I learned recently about high blood pressure. Found out from a medical doctor with a natural health degree that low potassium and/or low electrolytes can cause high blood pressure. Take potassium in the form of potassium citrate to lower high blood pressure. It's even better if you take electrolytes with it because if you only take the potassium, it can unbalance your potassium salt and magnesium levels after a while. The best form of electrolytes is Dr Berg's electrolyte powder. Also a pounding heartbeat is often caused by a B1 deficiency. Take vitamin B1 in the form of non fortified nutritional yeast if you have this issue and it will clear it up within a couple of minutes. You will need anywhere from a teaspoon to a tablespoon. I had been having this problem for years and was always given medication that had side effects until I was told the root cause of blood pressure which is a lack of eating plenty of vegetables and leafy greens.

Just a suggestion-(as I have had to think way outside of the box with many horses)-try to learn how to get him to join up at liberty in an area you can ask him to go around and over obstacles when you ask from a distance first and show him how little pressure can be used and then have him go with you through this somewhat an obstacle course with you as a leader-get him to feel his job is to be with you and lead--this will keep boredom down-then ride him as light as possible out in the open away from other horses--as for easy tasks in riding-if he will not keep his gait then get him to move his feet in a way that is fairly difficult and unwanted by him--then rest him and ask again your original task--patience is key-but you must be a leader-assertive yes-but not aggressive--he is built for ranch work-so find ranch type things to do-he may show you he is a lot quicker on his feet than you realize-I would also try some bare back riding if you are up for it-in an open area where he thinks he is free

Amazing and thoughtful advice!!!! Have you thought about first getting health issues checked out, teeth floated, farrier, ulcers, chiropractor etc. saddle fit, maybe hackamore. When my kids were little and having difficulties, I always liked to make sure that the physical side was checked out first. Another thing that I came across (I'm not sure but I think it's from Warwick Schiller) and this is the anthesis of conventional wisdom, is you do something with a horse up to the point JUST BEFORE HE BECOMES UNCOMFORTABLE and then you back off and wait for him to relax before continuing. This method helps the horse be a true partner. This idea opened my eyes to how stressful the method of forcing the horse to "work through his fear" is and that he will be willing but not a true partner. This has been fun for me as none of my kids nor other family or friends are interested in horses! I wish you and Momma all the best.

Another timely video Dewayne! Thanks for your transparency. My devotional time today touched on the warnings of a critical attitude toward others, to take care of the beam in your own eye so you can see the speck of dirt in your neighbors. I’m sorry you have been the recipient of others snap judgments. The use of Tank as a visual parable makes this a tremendous video. I’m rooting for Tank and I pray for you brother Dewayne!

Hey brother. Just found your videos I know you been told this but you need to hear it again. Thank you, for doing what fathers haven’t done for this young men. Only thing I can add is to teach them about Jesus and how important it is to know Christ. Yes I’m glad your fixing the thought process that the world really messed these kids up. Just don’t forget we will die one day and God will say one of two things to him and I don’t want anyone to hear this phrase “depart from me, for I don’t know you.” I say this with love and passion of humans.

I really enjoy your videos. Lots of good info learned the hard way. My last resort with Tank would be take him out on his own for a couple of days and let him do his thing. Maybe needs to get away from the crowd to have fun on his own. Thanks Dwayne.

Just found your channel today! Really love the content so far! I grew up on the outskirts of St. Louis MO, in the country but not on a farm or ranch or anything. More like trailer park and shell gas station type country rather than cowboy country. Anyway, my dream is to own my own ranch one day, but obviously I have a whole lot to learn. So, I appreciate the knowledge you're sharing on your channel!

This guy is a breath of fresh air from all of the other videos I watch. I like billions of other people who work at a job that I hate, it's a great company with great benefits which is why I've worked there for so long but man it's so damn monotonous and I feel trapped inside. I agree, if I was to go out there, I don't know what I would do next and you have to go out there to find out for yourself. Sometimes, you just don't know!

First, we love your Chanel! I love this video in particular! You touch on a huge shortfall in the horse industry, well most industries. The “my way or the highway” mentality where you can’t be wrong or ask for help or simply say, “I don’t know”. I was a trainer and occasionally instructor and even judged a few shows into my 30’s, I even went to college to get an Equine business management degree…. Because it was instilled in me that “I don’t know” or let me ask another’s opinion were unacceptable and basically condemned. I got so disgusted by the “horse people” that I left the industry completely. In my late 40’s I married a great man that knew my past and love of the farm and horses that I grew up with. He insisted we get involved with horses, for the horses and us, not the people. I thank him ever day for the blessings of 6 horses and with “all my knowledge” ha ha… I will always seek to learn more. For every encounter learning what tools can help gives us the ability to be better and to say, I don’t know, what would you do. Thank you!
Side note, Tank is beautiful and a fine Quarter Horse model! I love your idea to show him fun, work can be fun… see what he likes. As you’ve said in past videos, listen to the horse, let him tell you what he gets excited about.

Sometimes an animal gets to a point, where they wonder, "AND how does this benefit me at all?" , i am drawn to these kinds myself.. can be the best partner you could ask for, or can be turned into a worst enemy (which is why they were likely sold in the first place) I have a young mare I am doing this exact thing with, taking the pressure off, not looking for a fight, turning some things into a game that she clearly see's benefits her and are fun, with still clear boundaries and *because I work highly in the energy field, re creating proper connection and feel" ... Creating a different kind of partnership. I love animals like this (i professionally am a dog behavioral and rehab trainer), that have something to teach us, and that benefits us both. I can't wait to someday attend your program when you move closer to home. you talk eloquently and straight, and that sure resonates! Can't wait to see this horses progress, the ones like him are special I find!

Oh man. Did this one hit home to me right now. On the horse level and on the critical snap decision doesn't make someone else's life better! I spent the last year starting over with a new horse that was sold to me as a "good ride" but bad ground manners. I had to "listen to my horse". I had to step out of the box. He is better. And on the other, now my life is in turmoil and stress. I have stomach ulcers, and diaphramatic hernia, Celiac disease, insufficient pancreas. There's medication involved. And my partner has had small strokes. Been in and out of hospitals and I have had those snap decisions that has mis diagnosed my partner on several occasions that has been costly to his overall recovery. Oh man, I just gotta get away and meet you and DeAnne before ya'll leave Tennessee.

I find it tragic, that one: The internet has made everyone an expert on everything, at least in their own mind. And two, people dont know how to stay in there own lane. If they dont like smoking, they dont have to watch. But, everyone has an opinion on everything these days.
I personally enjoy every video, regardless of content, because I get something out of them all.
I was actually thinking of getting into cigars when I stumbled upon the channel. And was greatful to be reminded that men, should make their own decisions on how they live their lives. I now enjoy a morning and evening smoke daily. Thank you sir, as always.

Thank you Dewayne for the wisdom you relate in your videos. I began watching various videos on your channel only a few weeks ago. Finding that the content helps ease some of the anxieties that have crept in over the past few years. I will continue to tune in and listen to what you have to say. Much appreciated. Looking forward to see how Tank does in the near future. JV.

Restarting him is good. Try teaching him tricks to engage his mind. Was given a misfit TW gelding. He was lazy and pushy. Had to work on basics but had the most fun teaching him new tricks. He loved it and we created a trusting bond on the trail or just hanging out together. Taught him how to dance the Hokey Pokey and he danced it with 5,000 people at the WA state fair. Every horse can fit somewhere.

In relation to the future, and life...sometimes we just don't know - just like with a horse, sometimes we just don't know, but we gotta listen, be patient, watch carefully, and keep moving forward as we would with that beautiful animal. I knew there was a reason I subbed, you're a great teacher.

Dwayne, you must stay up late at night pondering your topics, and I must say you reached deep into my soul to get this one. There's an old saying I mutter to my kids and grandkids, Adjust and overcome. You've clearly stated why that is so important in this situation; Life has value. Tank is a beautiful horse and I like his conformation. I'm sure both of you will figure this out in time. I agree with others, would love to see Tanks progression. Say Hi to Mama.

I was an lpn nurse for years in home health. Speaking from personal and professional experience for alot of people if they eat yogurt every day it helps with leveling out stomach acid which helps not have acid reflux in your throat. It don't work for everyone but it helps alot of people. Worth a try. Enjoy your videos

If we call out to the Lord then you will be given knowledge and or wisdom how to handle the situation that is perplexing or frustrating. He has all of life's answers and you have the humility to realize and admit your limitations, with no shame or reproach! God's blessings on you!
