      @@RobotronSage What you're talking about is what's called a kickback. It's a device that shoots the ball back into play if it goes into an outlane. You can activate them by shooting specific shots. They're actually really important not just because they save your ball but because a lot of games have lanes including outlanes where it's necessary for the ball to go into said lane to start a mode, get a reward, etc. A lot of times it's something like a letter that lights up when the ball goes into the lane. The kickback let's you light up letters or bonuses attached to. an outlane without losing your ball.

    The #2 rule you mentioned with the ball resting on the edge of the flipper to slow it down allowing for greater control is my favorite. There is this one trick I can only pull off if I have been practicing lately and am on my game. I call it the Pinky Flip. If the ball falls into the very middle which is usually a loss for me you can sometimes hit both flippers at the same time and just barely launch the ball to safety. I am sure you use that trick on occasion and know it's proper name. I have been anywhere from terrible to a decently strong Pinball player. Never one who was good enough to compete though.

    I mastered everything you just said when I was 13. I'm 56 now. Back in the70's they had the real machines. Brings back memories. Just the art ofnudging as you call it, that was a science. Ball control with your flipper,took years to master. Just like playing pool. Pinball was more intoxicating.I remember when they went digital scoring. I didn't like it. I love thesound of the numbers rolling. Lost art.

      @stefansunnick4690 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@gabrielandy9272 Just in case you still don't have an answer: You can google for "EM" machines (= electro-mechanical or mechanical). Those have quite a recognizable sound. Although the tables generally have less depth than some newer tables, I can totally get it that their sound is a real deal. Newer tables are electronical (SS = solid state) and there are tables that have only numbers for highscore (alphanumerical) and there are tables with a dot matrix display, which are capable of displaying text, images or even minigames on them. If you want an example name for an EM table: Aztec. But there are numerous different tables. For all Pinball pros reading this: I hope I got it right, I am no expert.

    That angle thing is really the key. I really didn't get as a kid how that worked. Really fundamentally more important than "learn the angles" is learn what the flipper will do, like: shoot from the base of the flipper: straight up, toward the middle: 45 degrees out, shoot from the tip: way off to the side of the machine. Obvious to pinball lovers but not the average person. Also the "dead bounce" is something I only recently mastered and it saves you a lot of time. Knowing when you don't have to or SHOULDN'T touch anything at all and just trust the ball will bounce to the other flipper or just lose momentum is such a valuable skill. Man I love pinball.

I always believed either you were born a player or you weren't. I remember the good old days. Every place I ever went there were pinball machines. Mostly all I did was play pinball when I got out of bed until I got to the race track then played pinball for 90 minutes during the warmups at the track then after the races played pinball at the Orchard Park Tavern across the street from Greenwood race track until they closed every night. I also bowled professionally but put in more time playing pinball machines than bowling.

    Good general video.
    NUDGING TIP: Physically speaking, when nudging, you are moving the table, you are not moving the ball. The ball stays where it is. So there is a certain amount of “opposite day” involved in how you nudge the table in order to get the ball to bend to your will.
    General complaint which has nothing to do with this video:
    I am quite tired of watching videos of pinball “wizards” who have obviously setup the table to never tilt, with almost zero table angle to slow drains and bats misaligned to make easy shots running up billions of points endlessly and calling themselves “Tommy”.
    Pinball is supposed to be a challenge.

Full on slamming it into the wall and machine next to it. There is no reason to "nudge" it at all. I hate when I come in to service and clean my machines and the machine has been obviously moved out of position by an overly zealous player. These machines are pushing 7K and up new. Please don't abuse the machines guys.

      I think nudging and abuse is whole other thing. I operate a number of machines as well and you need to ensure they are setup probably so if people abuse the machines they pay the consequences of a tilt. Many locations I visit the machines are setup too easy with little to no tilt setting and give good players excuses to take liberties to give their ball alive. If a machine is setup right then in reality you will have way less abuse of machines unless a person is just being a dick about it.

    This guy is not giving advice on getting better. Getting better beings with a deep understanding of the rules, knowing what leads to multipliers is more important sometimes then going for multiball. This also has to do with the code version the machine has installed. Pinball code is now an evolving thing. The machine you should practice on, should be on the code version of the tournament you are entering. Your strategy might also depend on consistency of right handed shots vs left. Some of the best players play slow and only go for the shots they know they can hit every time. I have seen some of the best in Texas, and online.

    • @diehardpinball7335
      @diehardpinball7335 ปีที่แล้ว

      Man been a long time since I have seen that video lol... The video was meant for an amateur player and was made 6 years ago much of the strategies apply for those that just want to get a little better at keeping the ball alive. I am sure if I made a video with advanced tips there would have been other tips I would have shared about how to score better as a competitive player. Advanced flipper techniques like drop catching, shatzing in-lanes, alley passes, etc. Or strategies such as stacking modes with multi-balls, risk/reward strategies depending on the ball you are and the machine you are playing. Playing only the safe shots on a playfield when you are in a close game. There are so many types of tips out there is you want to become one of the best players in the world. Unfortunately, I was never asked to do another video or else I could have incorporated those advance competitive strategies for those who are inspiring to compete on a world stage. :)

      its chances to stay competitive ended when Stern became the only pinball manufacturer. This was early 2000's It wasn't until recently that more manufacturers came around and it's starting to be an actual industry again.

      When I grew up it was 5 cents or 3 plays for a dime. I was the best in Canada around age 9 and the best in the province of Ontario when I was 7 years old. I used to play those stupid baseball machines blindfolded and could still beat anyone alive blindfolded. The old games from the 60 's and 70's you could just lock limit the thing on the first ball and just about every machine had 3 free games every time you came around the zeros so I'd just run the thing up to 09 games years later 50 or 99 games all on the first ball. I was always known as the fastest player alive. I always tried to cut my times down on how long it took to run up 99 games on the first ball.

      This is Tommy Tutalidge the man that still rules the world of pinball. Sightings all over the world of me playing pinball documented on rec.games.pinball. Take a real good look at my t-shirt on facebook under the name Tommy Tutalidge. The fine line between mortality and immortality a the real Tommy a the world champion. Note the pictures are from May 2001. Ya LEARN ya LEARN about the real Tommy.

      You don't have the eyes of a pinball player. First tip, don't keep your fingers more than one-quarter of an inch off of the flippers at all times. Look up the Bruce Lee one inch punch for how to explode at one quarter inch distance to save the ball. Not legal in tournament play you can also death save the ball with swivel hips.

      I was up to 46 in the world, now sit at 116 in the world, not too shabby considering there are around 70,000 competitive players :)
