Russell Bates, the writer of this episode, stated that his script was left virtually intact when produced---virtually no rewrites, no changing of original dialogue, etc. Quite rare for a script to make it to final production without the necessary "cuts and changes".
I saw this episode only once when I was a kid. I thought it was one of the best of all the Animated Star Trek episodes. Kukulcan's ship is unique, though. Original and completely alien. As Spock would say, "Fascinating!"

Nobody can. Filmation Associates, which produced this series with Paramount, heavily re-used stock footage and head shots as a cost-cutting measure. I recognize some of those shots immediately. But it didn't affect the great storytelling from the original writing crew.
Is it me, or just captain Kirk who said ..' Koo-bla-kahn '....While walking bear and spock say...'' Koo-Koo-Khan ''?...lol Kirk seems to pronounce it with an '' L '' in it...lol
+ponchai allen It has an "L" in it--but no "B": Kuhkulkan. How every seems to be saying it, even if can sound like at times that the second syllable can come off as a "kla" sound. But Kirk is not saying Kublakan, the name of a Chinese Yuan dynasty emperor.
+ponchai allen Shatner mispronounced it the entire time. Unfortunately they usually did their recording separately wherever they happened to be so no one was around to correct him.

Yeah Walter was not part of the voice cast for the animated Star Trek series.
He did write a couple of the episodes though.

At 3:06, I laughed in a way that I have never heard myself laugh, before! I just can't take the animation seriously!

It just dawned on me that Kukulkan sounded awfully like Sargon from “Return to Tomorrow”. No surprise since James Doohan provided both voices.
