John - great shot of the traditional Thames Barge and a Jet taking off from City Airport... the old and the new... I know what I prefer. Thanks.

Exactly what I thought, when I see things like that it actuates my sense of being in time.

it's funny - the last time i was in london - this was way back in 1986! - i was out and about on a Sunday - and i got to a place and there was absolutely no-one else around - not even a car or a bus. i tell you, it felt a bit spooky, really

I do a thing in every tunnel I go where I shout 'SPIS'......and the acoustics in that one would be amazing. Another fine video, I can't stop watching.

Those aren't the lifts that we used when I was a kid, it was safer to use the stairs. Good to hear that piercing whistle sound again. Got a stack of memories connected with that place on both sides of the Thames. Good vid 👍

John - interesting you should mention the huge weight of the water above you. I have long believed that, if parents have unruly children, they can take them down the Woolwich or Greenwich Foot Tunnels, point out the damp surfaces and tell them: "if you do not start behaving yourselves, the weight of the water is going to burst into the tunnels and you are going to drown!!!" That should so traumatise the little so-and-sos that the parents will enjoy a peaceful afternoon...

The missus and I got creeped out at the entrance to this tunnel, and bottled out of going into it. Fine pair of deep topographers we turned out to be!!

it does have a spooky quality - I blame the acoustics and the awareness of all that water overhead

How did you make the river look miniature? I thought you built it and filmed it until I saw the speed boat.
I didn’t know about the Tudor/Elizabethan dock. New appreciation for Woolwich now.

I remember the old cliffhanger serial 'Daredevils of the Red Circle" where one of those tunnels under the river is breached by a baddie who has opened a valve to the outside letting in the rive and the hero on a Harley races along in front of a wall of water to reach a valve which seals off the breach- very iconic

NowAndThen_EH89JW not quite so fancy - it's the built-in miniature effect on the camera which creates a similar look
