Nah, great concept(not a new one..), extremely poor execution between the 3 of you bouncing ideas, that's the best you could come up with,do handbrake turns in cars without a functioning handbrake, and doing a nascar lap around a square soggy field in hot hatches??
Judging by the comments you’ve liked, I’d say it’s safe to assume you purposely went for the “top gear vibe” which is fair enough. You need to listen to your community and take on the feedback though. Being sat there liking all the comments glazing the video makes it look more like you’re sticking your head in the dirt than anything. I’m sure you’re aware of Cleetus’ channel. They did a few “Challenge” video series and none of those videos came across as cheap and knockoff-y as this. I get the budgets are very different, but there is more you could’ve done here. TH-cam is TH-cam and people want to see authentic and genuine content. This is everything but. Stop with the fakery before it’s too late. And if you’re gonna do a Top Gear “inspired” video, be honest about your intentions. It’s one thing to pay homage to something so beloved (and consequently ruined) and it’s another thing to attempt to copy it. If you really were going for a top gear inspired video, it was truly, horrendously executed. I’m really not wanting this to come across like I’m hating. The gang produce brilliant content but this felt a little rushed, more cameramen/women would help. Luke being the independent adjudicator would have added something…
I was really hoping for a lot more from the end of this series, as hot hatchs are where most enthusiasts begin. Ending it in a flat field felt like we can't be arsed.
I would say, the old Car Throttle videos did feel a whole lot better in terms of planning and filming. There was fun challenges, structure and great producing. For example the 500£ daily driver challenge. A bit like comparing Top Gear with The Grand Tour. Top Gear felt well planned, funny but structured while The Grand Tour feels a bit slow and half-planned to me personally.
The older I have gotten, the more opportunity I have had to afford nicer vehicles. However, as of late I have started to miss cheap shit boxes from my younger years. Like these that really have a lot of character and where you just do basic mods and repairs yet drive them like you absolutely have stole them. Keep it up gents, your showing really how
Not disappointed by the community in the comments on this one, bit disappointing lads. Hopefully the next one is a bit more well put together because this felt chaotic and majority of it was babble and reaction shots. No hate just constructive critisism.
This episode felt a little weird, rushed, even staged (for the 1st time)... - No camera angle for the handbrake turns - Incorrect outcome for the handbrake turns to build suspense, I guess? - That crash didn't seem possible (and yet you were filming but chose not to show it all) - Rory's in car comms were forced (just be in the zone, don't shout and scream) - I didn't mind the camera work overall, but the editing was rough You boys are natural talents, theres no need to rush things
Had to turn it off halfway through. Camera work, editing and the fake crash left a sour taste in my mouth. I liked this channel as well, please don’t go down this route.
Sorry to say this felt well under par guys, poor camerawork, far too scripted, over excitement, fake laughter, very cheesy and 1st ever time I've turned off early. I appreciate change/evolving is good, but this seemed completely forced and unnatural. Generally love what you do and I'll be back for the next video 👍
I feel like this video is an example of where they crossed the line of invoking the 'spirit' of old Top Gear and actually trying to replicate it. The latter is doomed to fail. Top Gear couldn't even replicate Top Gear anymore.
come on lads, this was shot poorly, the handbrake test was terrible, as a viewer I had no clue what was actually happening because all we saw was Rorys reactions.
I feel like you guys didn't have enough camera people. I can't imagine how expensive it would be especially if you're on a budget, but I felt like we missed most of the action of all the great and funny things that happened in this vid. Not trying to be mean, Love you guys, I will always watch the vids haha
Maybe now is just the right time for Taylor, Luke & Chris to launch a Taylor Made Cars channel. This scripted nonsense and bad acting/fake/over exaggerated "reactions" have worn a bit thin now. This is TH-cam, not Amazon/Netflix!
So we had lots of videos on the buying and build up to this end? Hot hatches in the mud? How bizarre. I feel like you've done these cars an injustice with this. I'm glad the Clio won, because it's obviously the best car, but perhaps a track would have been a better use of our time?
The camera work wasn’t up to the standard we expect from the channel. But one of the best little series you have done in a while, nice to see some video’s without a mini or a BMW! And not Including the usually E73 i M sports grand touring Alpina coupe cobblers.
Apologies, I really don't like "hating" but I think you need to invest in more/better camera men and better editing. How you don't actually show the shot of the cars doing the handbrake turns or Alex accidentally reversing to name a few examples just seems so amateur.
Agreed, although what they need is a producer/director IMO. Someone who isn’t presenting or filming and can focus on the upcoming shots, general plan, the edit, etc. There’s so much potential to be had but this one thing is holding them back hugely I think
But this is TH-cam, things happen rather than pretend to happen? You need to demand an immediate refund of the feck all this cost you and get back to the Grand Tour
@@stuartkennedy2082 That’s a rather needlessly aggressive way to respond. People are simply giving feedback, which is what these comments are for. I agree, things need to happen and not pretend to happen, but the production value needs to improve.
okay, this feels like a cheap fake, because you dont really know how to fake a video like this. this was very different from the usual autoalex video vibes, youre just going full top-gear, please stop.
Back in the day Performance Car magazine had two rules for the jurnos. 1 keep control of the car at all times. 2 keep control of your face at all times. One for Rory there 😀
No doubt a lot of work went into doing this. It just seems like not a lot of brains or consideration did. First of all, why are you on mud in hot hatches? Why do we not get full exterior shots of the challenges being performed? The entire video flow is boring, the cuts are the same for the entire duration and the laugh seems really forced. You can do better than this. You would have had more genuine and funny content, if you had planned this challenge better. It could have been an autocross challenge, reverse J turns, B road testing, blasting offensive music and seeing which car gets the most attention, rev limit sound-off, wheelspin attempts, getting young girls opinions, dressing up as hot hatch teenagers and so on.. Hope to see you returning to better form soon! All the best
As an owner of a 208gti I can safely say that it deserves more than a 4/10!! Not bland at all!! Very nippy and fun to drive day to day. 0-60 in 6.5secs. 200bhp. What's not to like!!
Another comment for you which I hope is constructive and not just another negative and as you guys are great. Agreed with many comments here the camera/edit was a little all over the place, hard to pin it down. On your tasks it was genuinely hard to unpick what was going on so we as an audience we aren't following the plot points your laying out and end up not invested in the competition. I'd say the race was the best section but you needed a fixed drone shot or higher angle shot of each lap so you could really see the route and compare laps, also probably worth explaining the route and showing a diagram before the race. Second point, and I think more importantly, whilst I get that you can't fall in love with every car in the world I think more needs to be done to build the relationship with each of your cars, whether that means a slower series or splitting to each of you doing your process. There's been quite a few moments where a car or some modifications come out of nowhere and the process of you getting it or doing that is half of what gets the audience invested in the builds and the story and therefore actually caring who wins the competition. Almost like Donuts high car low car where we see real work being done and a story behind the car other than it is a "shit hatchback that I bought" and now we're racing. Odd suggestions but take a look at the "scrapyward wars" series setup by linus tech tips (this is PC building but a great format you guys could adapt I'm sure). I think all three of you are now solid presenters on the channel so you should each be managing your story and coming together for a joint episode at the end as the build up to this episode has also been a little underwhelming. You guys will figure it out but just wanted to give some thoughts that might be beneficial..
Was there a new editor for this one? Or were there missing cameras or lost footage (it's like one of them is shooting in manual focus too). It's really strange, Alex's 40mph run is literally 2 seconds of the start and then a flash of a speedo (miles away from the tree) and then a crash. The rest of the video is just so strangely cut.
Also on the final challenge - no rundown of the course or expanation, more footage of the two guys watching the car (and commentating) than the actual footage itself. So strange lads and I'm normally such a huge fan of the channel but things have been off recently!
So I need to give some props, respect, whatever you want to call it to Mr. Taylor Hetherington. Not only is he a great mechanic, great presenter and he loves his mum... it also turns out he's something of a helmsman! between the 3 of you bouncing ideas, that's the best you could come up with,do handbrake turns in cars without a functioning handbrake, and doing a nascar lap around a square soggy field in hot hatches??
I’ve been watching since the early Car Throttle days, I just don’t want this channel to be in the “Top 10 hardest automotive TH-camr falloff’s of all time”
Please listen to the constructive feedback you get.
This was far more than just a Top Gear vibe, it felt like just an imitation.
Surly the challenges should have been done in a supermarket car park for the true hot hatch experience
Get some Macdonald's trays for the handbrake turn challenge 😂
Brilliant idea

Why on earth have they done it in a field🤣🤣

Love the videos but this one just seemed too scripted, it was just trying too much to be like top gear aswell and the camera work wasn’t the best but love the work keep it up fellas and look forward to seeing you at ShedFest 3.0
Feels sooo staged like the "worst" grand tour episode...
its getting harder to watch as the autoalex era continues, honestly if it wasnt for taylor, this channel would be dead.
@@John.Winchester yeah Rory comes over as an overdramtic 2 year old that always sounds like his crying ... and the way he comes up with b.s so quick is pretty alarming ... wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him
Somehow Jack and Ethan on bicycles has become more entertaining than this nonsense.
You should use the drone more often, especially for this types of test. The 0-40 and brake whould have been great to see in that view
I agree, it was a really entertaining video, we got all the reactions but not enough of action shots.
Lots of shots of their faces but not the driving. Odd filming or editing choice.
Also came here to say this! Unusually piss-poor job from this channel
wouldnt be able to do a drone shot of the puegeot as it was clearly scripted, hope these lot down go down the route of making up stuff for entertainment its just lazy
@@wntr2980 The "accidental" crash was a bit naff to say the least.
17:10 a bit too scripted
Have you not noticed that this channel echos Top Gear quite a lot? And of course, a lot of other channels.
@@archechme 100%, being inspired is one thing but I think TGT ending has just made it even worse lol. And it's unfortunately a very poor imitation
Taylor’s laugh sets me off everytime 😂😂😂😂
I would say, the old Car Throttle videos did feel a whole lot better in terms of planning and filming. There was fun challenges, structure and great producing. For example the 500£ daily driver challenge. A bit like comparing Top Gear with The Grand Tour. Top Gear felt well planned, funny but structured while The Grand Tour feels a bit slow and half-planned to me personally.
My dogs ears pricked up when he heard Taylor laughing at the start 0:04 seconds 😂😂😂🐕🐕🐕
- No camera angle for the handbrake turns
- Incorrect outcome for the handbrake turns to build suspense, I guess?
- That crash didn't seem possible (and yet you were filming but chose not to show it all)
- Rory's in car comms were forced (just be in the zone, don't shout and scream)
- I didn't mind the camera work overall, but the editing was rough
You boys are natural talents, theres no need to rush things
Had to turn it off halfway through. Camera work, editing and the fake crash left a sour taste in my mouth. I liked this channel as well, please don’t go down this route.
15:22 Taylor summed up this video in Three Words.
I came down here to make the exact same comment
Static cameras are always a good option. Couple of gopros on tripods would do the job for the handbrake turn test for example
Weird huh?! Terrible camera work.
Get in the bin mate
@@stuartkennedy2082 That’s a rather needlessly aggressive way to respond. People are simply giving feedback, which is what these comments are for. I agree, things need to happen and not pretend to happen, but the production value needs to improve.
We need a muscle car challenge 🙃
Yes!! Taylors mentioned Monaros and Maloos in the podcast a few times, totally think he needs to try one, I can confirm the Monaro is a total blast
Hell yes!
Muscle cars are rare in britain, and when they are here, they aren't cheap, even for rust buckets.
In America
And no more BMW’s, ever.
Unpopular opinion, but Rory on camera just doesn't do it for me. Probably would do better behind the camera as this was terrible
From the comments here, I don't think your opinion is especially unpopular.
You’re spot on, the guy is unwatchable. He’s the equivalent of that Wombat on the Meerkat adverts.
okay, this feels like a cheap fake, because you dont really know how to fake a video like this. this was very different from the usual autoalex video vibes, youre just going full top-gear, please stop.
Back in the day Performance Car magazine had two rules for the jurnos. 1 keep control of the car at all times. 2 keep control of your face at all times. One for Rory there 😀
Personally my choice would be the Clio, my first car was a Clio, so I got a soft spot for them. Only Alex could get a damp and soggy Peugeot 😂
So we're swaping cars.... Have a word with your editor & enable that spell check :P
@SevCars lots of work? Someone's yard and a few tyres and a random dinner lady as a camera man .... talk about budget video with fake everything
As an owner of a 208gti I can safely say that it deserves more than a 4/10!! Not bland at all!! Very nippy and fun to drive day to day. 0-60 in 6.5secs. 200bhp. What's not to like!!
Was hoping for a drag race between these cars
Fantastic work sir, you are the clear winner of all of the challenges, no matter what Rory and Alex says.
Something makes me think that Rory doesn't know what a Scandy flick is.
I've been hosteling in Scandinavia Performed a couple of Scandy flicks myself. 😂😂😂 My Dad also works at Nintendo though, so take that as you will... 😂😂😂😂
