We wish we could boom like this on arena. At 1200-1400 elo you always end up with a Castle Drop/All In from your opponent. Give us I guide to "How to not die to Castle Droppers/All In type of players"
I'm also 1300 and I just wall a small area (right around the range of the castle), add some monks and Siege, a second tc, a castle and try to be faster up to win the treb war
Yeah I want a « what to do when your opponent starts building a castle in your face » guide. I tried to fight with vills to deny the castle but it never works. Maybe build 2 towers and garrison them ?
@@raphaelguerin2691 Make a couple outposts in late feudal so you see them coming and, as soon as you see where they are dropping the castle, make another wall out of castle range, use the necessary vills, not just 1. Amazing build order: boom into "black death." 11 I liked your point about just knowing what you're trying to do as well. Build orders are great, but understanding what to save for at what timings is super helpful. Sounds super basic but I think 1) what do I want to go for (especially for a specific match-up)? 2) what eco and technology do I need for that to happen? Then build around it. I also like to plan to have a bit more resources than I'll need so that I can adapt easier under pressure. Awesome vid and pointers as usual❤
BTW this is a great video for anyone who wants to learn how to boom. With all due respect this will only work upto 1150 elo, you will get castle dropped and siege pushed into oblivion. On team games your flank gets castle dropped and everyone will curse you if you simply boom and not support them.
With regards to the TG situation, if your flank dies to a castle drop with no support from enemy pocket that's not really on you for not supporting him. If you invest into defensive army to protect him while enemy pocket booms, you will get steamrolled by that pocket when they're ready to come in hot. Similarly, if the enemy pocket supports the push and they 2v1 your flank it means the enemies will both have weak economies and you should be able to steamroll both of them when YOU come in hot (assuming you hit a good timing.) Of course we both know in practice that won't stop your flank from ragequitting if you're queueing with randoms, because so many people only want to play if they can be the hero and they know that door is closed when they take early damage. If your flank is a team player, though, and commits to stalling out the enemy push the best play for pocket is 100% to boom as fast as possible before coming in with a strong army to clean up.
Hi Hera, as usual, great video. You mentioned a farm cap if going for cav archers. It would be nice to also give an estimate of wood/gold vils if going for knight rushes.
if you have khmer u can do 26pop up 4tc with all eco uprages when hitting castle age, 6 on food, 4 on wood, 4 on berries, make a second lumbercamp put 4 vills there, add 4farms and when u have 22villagers put the next one (23rd) on stone and build a mining camp, last 3 villagers goes to gold, when u have 200gold click castle age, take off your gold villagers and put them into wood, when you are going to castle age try to be at 10-12 on food and rest on wood so you can afford all eco upgrades instantly. when u reach castle age you should have almost a thousand wood with 300 stone construct your tc's only with 2 vills each, prioritize bowsaw and heavyplow, if u have enough resources u can grab wheelbarrow but u can also do it later.
My tip to do it even better (Hera let me know what you think): I actually send the 3 or 4 last wood vills on gold first, take around 10 gold each and build another lumberjack to drop the gold and have more efficient wood in another location, usually one near the berries one somewhere else, then market blacksmith & sell 100 wood and up, a bit better than your version i believe no?
during castle age, you can already start placing some houses outside, i would spread them outside all a bit further from gate, its a good walk to see what your enemies are doing.. they are cheap anyway, and saves the space for farm. if concerned if getting destroyed by enemy, do it outside your wall more distant from enemy, build a wall to protect it, later add military buildings. Also, if your opponent is using all halbs you would be screwed because his troops are cheap and effective. If its halbs followed by a dozen scorps, 50 paladin wont do anything.... or i would have used 10 siege onagers plus maybe 20 halbs.. stand behind gate... a few hits 50 paladin is done
What I do (I picked this up from Ganji's boom video from 1-2 years ago) is when I build a TC on stone on Arena, I have two of the villagers go immediately to stone once it is up. It marginally slows down your wood income but the timing works out that you'll have that 100 stone around the time you can afford the fourth TC (depends on civ, but it's around the time you got Wheelbarrow or a bit before). If a TC on stone isn't viable I just add 2 to gold and buy the 100 stone.
Love this! Would also love to know the best way to defend against arena castle drop if booming is your strat. Recently got poles on arena and opted instead for a fast castle drop because I was afraid of a donjon rush. Should I have taken advantage of their crazy boom instead?
Awesome build order like always Hera! how is your spanish? would you consider doing tutorials en español? thanks for the great guide, i will try it next time.

certain things i simply dont agree. no need to lure deers, its a waste of time, use it to explore other berries or other resources outside your town. Just build a mill, send 2-4 vil to work after done with the boars and sheeps. 2nd point: No need to build farms in dark age, they are expensive, and produce that much food, just get the berries. Until feudal age, do the research on the mill to get extra 75 food on the farm, and then build farm, its more cost effective. Unless you are playing forest prison with no food, then you need to farm max
All I know is how to boom, dont know anything else :D I wish there was a competition who would reach 200 population IMP with at least 50% research done xd Anyway should you include your monks to boom, to pick up relics as soon as possible?
If you just blindly do this in 3v3, 4v4 as pocket it'll probably work 2/3rds of the time in the 1100-1300 elo space. Players know how to get past walls here but are inconsistent about doing it. The other 1/3rd needs to identify and prepare for gimmicks, conqs/arambai/siege-towers/petards. I personally like to build a 'free' interior secondary wall with my structures outside of castle-drop-arrow-fire to contain gimmick pushes and buy time to transition out of boom and into unit production This build falls apart after castle age imo on 2v2 or 1v1 above 1200 as there is no 'pocket' and its age-of-castle drop into UU and you'll never be allowed to free boom. Still hopeful to see how ram buffs may shift that meta a little.
I wish it worked like this. When I go pocket, my flanck is always getting castle dropped because he doesn't know how the arena works, I save him and then I am all exposed. He always halts for some reason his eco and he's never get back up. When I go flanck, which is what I've been doing, I am really good at castle dropping except if I find a person on the opposite side like Hera, and when I'm asking for support, like pre-asking, I'm clearly saying this is the strategy from dark age, please support my castle, I'm receiving the response "lol bro I'm booming", which leads me to get obliterated by 1v2 and then hoping the boomer fights both of them until I get my eco up again, which is a stupid thing to do. People play team games thinking only for themselves. They cannot think outside the box or really be team players. "This is what I ve learnt to do and this is what I'm doing"

up again
on way to castle:
double bit axe
send 2-3 to berries (6 or 7 total on berries)
grab horse collar and make couple extra farms
think about tc locations
castle:
6-8 vills pull for 2x town centres (3-4 on each), replacing with new vills from tc

just after this get pre-req buildings (mon + uni)
aim to get 1k food and 800 gold for ~90 pop up to imp (roughly 2:4:1:0.5 ratio of wood, food, gold and stone)
on up to imp:
transition to mil buildings + techs needed for army comp, starting with barracks
e.g stables (5+), horse armour, bloodlines, husbandry and attack for paladins, probably want ballistics regardless
drop castle on way up to be done on up
start queuing desired units
imp:
conscription from castle
should get to ~50 mil and 140-150 vills, send new vills to resource outside walls e.g close gold, stone etc not fussed if lose these, ~130 vills inside walls
feel free to add more mil buildings + castle outside walls when sending vills outside
