There absolutely was a difference. I landed on this video because I'm having an unbalance between the E and A strings on my violin. The E is beautifully bright and strong while the A seems a little muffled. It appears I am having the same exact issue. Though, I'll have to take it to an expert because I am a nervous person who might instead knock off the sound post. 🤣
When I move the old post, I was taught to push it over on the bottom of the post. You do that, by putting two of the adjuster feet at the base of the post Then, lift and sort of twist the adjuster. You can then control the movement, precisely. And then slide the top of the post, by hooking it with the adjusters wing, which there are four. Also, I thought that the post to move not only backwards and forwards, but sise to s8de, for sound adjustment? Probably, further to the side, would increase the pitch.
I'm just learning how to do this - does it every worry you that you might damage the finish on the inside lip of the f-hole? It's really hard to hit the post with exactly the right amount of force and also not scrape the handle along the wood :(
Me again...I purchased a yvn 100 a few years ago and it has a good sound overall but a bit loud and the E string needs controlling with the bow pressure to achieve a warmer sound.....perhaps a different E string may solve the problem...??
I heard the "Before" recording is very bad, overdriven, distorted, heavily compressed. The "After" recording is of normal, audible quality. Thus, it is not possible to judge what has changed in the voice of the violin, only to hear the change in the quality of the recording.
Dotor I have a 1700 centuary Stradevarious made violin as the label shows but i dont if its true its in dismentel condition the size is 3/4 if you can share your email id will send you the pictures to confirm please your highly professional advice will be highly appreciated thanks and best of regards Antonio from Goa (India)
well I appreciate the message... but microphone placement can make that difference... also seems strage to want less sound.... but the bass is perhaps improved. I don't think TH-cam can give us enough sound quality and resolution to judge. My Speakers ( hi fi system actually) is over $10k so I'm struggling to hear what I am meant to hear. Thank you anyway for trying.
Absolutely agree. Of course these are real changes, but the overall level of the second recording is dramatically different without saturation and electronic compression, which is more than just the song post adjustment. Could be that she played less hard as she grew accustomed to the violin. Could be recording auto level in phone, or many other things, all of which are accidental. I wish i could hear for certain, because this is absolutely the correct way to adjust the sound post, and the author of this video is highly regarded. But i need a proper measurement with studio conditions and exact decibel level matches on multiple takes for this to be useful evidence, simply because the two recordings/performances are extremely different in output level. But the luthier making these videos really knows his work and we can all learn a lot from him, even if the demo recording was not an effective AB comparison, simply due to human nature in performing.
Love this series and format. Keep it up Edgar!
Thank you cafebingTea!

I'm just listening on my phone, but the post adjustment seemed to improve the lower strings too 😊
Great video as always, Viele Grüße 🎻
Thank you for your advice.
Great video

The E string sounds like it's screeching in the "before" part and singing in the "after" part.
After the adjustment the violin started singing. I love this instrument.
I wish I could play as well as she does.
It sounds better :) amazing
Thanks for your feedback!
All the best from Cremona

That helped a ton! Thanks!

that is big difference.

Yes ...the resulting "scar" is called (how we say) " character?
There seems to be a slight difference, but pressure from the bow plays a big part too..mm..unsure...
Lena actually is very good to play without changing in order that you can hear the difference.
0:27 Before
03:57 After
Thanks Kopi!
All the best

I think your instrument needs a sound adjustment and than new strings.
matur suksma
Sweeter to me. With just a half millimeter?
"I couldn't hear the difference between E and A string"
Try tuning the E a 5th above the A. Hope this helps!
:D
Sì, è più bilanciato. Bravi!
