Haha, the future self thing gets me everytime when I am trying to get rid of things.
I need to tell myself "I'm allowed to have this" more often because I don't often think I deserve
nice things (probably why I am also terrible at accepting gifts).
I always enjoy seeing your collection, it's so interesting and quirky and so very you.
Also, wow, blast from the past showing TWU tarot you coloured in; I remember watching that very first video you uploaded.
Loved the revelation that you shared at the end regarding elevation of practice vs valuing what a deck can bring to you even if it's not some lofty new spiritual/magical level up.
So here for the truth bombs and spicy takes.
For me, when it comes to folks like Crowley, Fortune, Blavatsky etc, it's about being aware of their less savoury qualities, actions and views in order to have a balanced understanding of them and their work. From homophobia and eugenics to appropriation and gender essentialism, there's sure a lot of 'ick' to wade through. But I do think there is also very interesting and useful information to be gleaned, as long as we're conscious of that, then there's no need to throw the baby out with the bath water.
When combined with diversifying the voices we are learning from/listening to, we can end up with a well rounded and hopefully respectful understanding of our practices and those of others.
On saying that, I could also do without the Occult Edge Lords out there who will hang onto every single thing that Crowley or some other esoteric figure of the past wrote/said, who bash anyone who says a bad word against them. Ugh.
Very much enjoyed this Anna, thank you for this thoughtful look at your current deck family. x

@@lilpinkbear Wow, thank you Kelly ♥️ I really appreciate you took the time to explain your point of view on Crowley etc. I fully agree with you. Just unfair that one is getting all the hate and others seem to get away with it 😅 It’s nice to see I’m not alone in my observations. We’re all better off by not blindly following 🙏🏼

I have a few decks that I don’t read with often or at all and yet I love them and enjoy them and I’m going to keep them. They bring me happiness and isn’t that a wonderful thing! I culled my collection a year ago and it renewed and reinvigorated my practice. Now a year later I’m ready to cull again. I have become much more disciplined and discerning about deck purchasing, but as new decks are created I most likely will add to my collection. The decks come and go…… as my practice changes and grows. Thanks for an interesting and thought provoking video. Keep the Blushing Fool!

Hi Anna. I love your videos. I have so many decks and I've gone through the same dilemmas. Finally I had a moment of clarity when looking at my books. I thought, who would ever say that I shouldn't have Sherlock Holmes when I have Agatha Christie, or Emily Bronte when I have Charlotte Bronte, or Camus when I have Sartre...and several books by the same author at that? The books I love sit on my shelves and I don't reread them regularly. There is no feeing of excess when it comes to books other than how much space we have. Books I give away are those I absolutely don't want to keep. Why do we do this to ourselves with tarot decks? Is there something beneath the surface we all need to examine? Just my current thoughts about this issue which I struggle with too.

    • @AstralLadyTarot
      @AstralLadyTarot  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@Victoria-vw6ju It can be different for everyone.. but for books I agree with the point of view that says books are pretty much a one way street. Tarot decks are a conversation, so the relationship is very different. And then if we neglect that conversation-type relationship, it no longer feels good to keep that deck. There needs to be some form of energy exchange. With books it’s ok to have read once and to keep in the bookcase as a reminder

A practice is not what I have😂, I wish I devoted more time to Tarot.
Here's my experience so far: I own decks I THOUGHT would bring a lot to my practice, because they are sophisticated and beautiful and intricate and rich in symbols but then ...crickets...
Then there's this cheap, humble deck you just bought because you needed a Tarot and it was Angel decks and oracles or that , and that turned out to be an amazing deck (Ellen Dugan Witches) The meanings are theoretically RWS but in my case the cards evolved to new meanings: the character in the six of wands looks ill, greenish face and tired, so whenever the card turns up I know something apparently good is not so good or comes at a price.
I hated Marseille decks for years because they told me about my mom's death. It was my mom's deck and she was asking about herself and she couldn't interpret the cards but I saw the meaning right away, and it was a hundred percent accurate. Sad beyond words. I hated Marseille decks and still the classic Marseille by Fournier is not for me. The tarot Español has a completely different feel though, so I could rekindle my love for Marseille style decks.
    I love your videos.
I try to watch fewer videos these days because I don't have much free time.
I forgot to mention that I think Tarots are "alive" so to say, I am an Animist, and Tarots have a personality, that's what I have found out, and like people some like you, some don't. Some are like an old friend and like in life you can't judge a book by its cover. I love to see which decks work for people and why.
So my aim for the following months is culling my collection creating a magpie (and rehoming other decks) and finding time to give some love to my wonderful, dear cards.
Thanks for sharing your wisdom and your decks!!! Awesome!!❤️🐦‍⬛

I recently moved. It gave me a chance to go through my tarot and oracle decks and decide what stays and what goes. The question I ask myself was "does the deck speak to me in some way?" I was surprised by how many decks didn't speak to me, and I moved on. To ask "does it elevate my practice?" , is such a great question. I will be using it as a journaling prompt that may help me define my practice at this moment in time. Yay to van life, I took a few longer trips with my van this past summer and early autumn. I have a very cool rug and some beautiful cloth wall hangings in it. Makes it feel cozy and home like.

I have to be frugal with my money, so I pass on many many decks I'd love to have in my collection. Collection aside, I mostly carry two decks with me. Two differing systems that I can read with depending on the question, the mood, or where my heads at in the moment. I'm more into designing my own decks. However, I view decks as a tool, mostly. I used to cut meat, so my tool of choice had to be sharp. Junk tools made work that much more difficult. Sure, I could use a dull edge because I am a master at my craft. But boy would my wrist hurt at the end of the day. Same thing with tarot cards. Tool, device, more than cards. Snapshots of a moment pulled from time and stilled. A picture that is not yet a puzzle. The reader is the craftsperson who uses the tool to turn it into something.

Question: imagine if you were seeing these deck for the very first time, would you want to start a collection that had a certain aesthetic because that is you? Or are you collecting because its what we tarot magpies do?
Then if you dont use it why not just keep until that day when you think ah, I should perhaps give that a try? And then if you really dont like it, its better than thinking "i shouldn't have let that one get away!"
I sold the golden rider and don't regret as I didnt feel it. Yes to have kept it as treasure but no to release to an owner who could appreciate it.
