I lost my chihuahua three years ago on a dog walk due to irresponsible neighbors. I can’t even talk about it. Struggled with PTSD, panic attacks and anxiety for a couple of years. I’m doing better now due to CBT, so thankful I discovered it, it’s really helpful for my anxiety. The vet said he went into shock immediately and didn't suffer, and that was a comfort. We have three cats now, but doubt I can handle having a dog again. Too many irresponsible people out there. I’m so glad all the dogs were okay. I can relate to the elderly lady!

I have to say, the world needs more people who are flexible and easygoing. It wasn't your fault, it was the dentist's office. They should have squeezed you in. I have a story: when I went to get my marriage license I'd come from Japan (to Nashville) to do it. My fiancé and I were almost finished with the paperwork and the lady was suddenly like, "Okay, so now I need to see your social security card." I was pretty sure that was not listed on the stuff we needed. My card was in Japan. And I STARTED CRYING because the wedding was in a week or so.... The lady cut her eyes to the side and said, "Err, what's your ss number." And I tearfully told her, she wrote it down and said, "That's fine. It'll be fine." I will never forget that--how kind and sympathetic she was.

I had the worst parosmia for 10 months after Covid and it’s something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. I was also pregnant the entire time so add on morning sickness to a garbage taste and smell…not a good concoction. I ate with a swimmers nose clip for months just to get food down. But ultimately what helped me was just pushing through the taste and smell and eating food like I normally would. The more I ate the better it got, so you are doing great! Other than that just time. It sucks and it’s hard for others to understand what it’s like, so solidarity girl! 💕

We literally have the same life story. I have had parosmia for over a year and was 5 months pregnant when I got Covid last January. I feel like so many people just don't understand, when I tell them an apple tastes like lighter fluid, they're like, "What?" It's terrible for sure, but I find it's slowly getting better (I call it a good nose day/bad nose day). Glad to hear it's getting better for you!

I have some friends that have two gigantic over 100 pound German shepherds that they insist are friendly and never put on a leash. The thing is is that their dogs are friendly to THEM lol - every time we’re on a walk together I lightly suggest probably being a good idea to put your dog on a leash but…. ??? Idk some people just don’t get it. Also some people are scared of dogs so just cause your dog is good, people have fear of dogs and those people should be able to go places without fearing your dog off leash? Idk just my opinion tho!! 😅

I let my GSD off leash when I'm in my back yard (unfenced). Bug he's very well trained and only gets defensive if you come onto my property without me letting him know you're not a threat. But in public he's always leashed

I have a pitbull mix thats the same way! I have to be extra careful because of the stereotypes with his breed. Leashing in public is always a good idea! Awe I bet your dog is a cutie - they're an amazing breed!!

The Goodwills here in my area (central VA) run daily “Color of the Day” deals where all items with that colored tag are half off. That’s the best way to find the deals! Dresses are $5.99, tops $3.99, jeans $5.99, kids clothing (tops, pants, dresses) are $2.99. Baby (0-24 month) clothing $0.50. I scored a TON of books for my toddler for $0.10 each which is cheaper than even yard sales. Thrifting is seriously THE way to go!! Especially with the inflation right now.

One time I was walking my dogs by a house and just totally coincidentally a girl opened her door with her two dogs (I also have two) and she just wasn't expecting me to be RIGHT THERE and so her dog pulled his leash out of her hand and ran out to my dogs, and my dogs were freaking out and her dog was running around and she couldn't catch him. It was crazy. I felt so terrible even though it really wasn't anybody's fault but it was so scary. My dogs are friendly, and I'm sure hers are, too, but in that situation any dog is going to kind of freak. SO SCARY

Dog attacks can be so traumatic! We had our Shih Tzu puppy for a couple of weeks and my husband went to take him out( on a leash). We lived in an apartment complex at the time and as he was walking the puppy he saw this lady trying to get her dog who had gotten out. My husband, not thinking didn’t immediately pick up our puppy and within seconds the dog was attacking the puppy. He said it happened so fast. Thankfully our puppy was ok physically, but to this day he’s afraid of big dogs and gets aggressive when he’s afraid. My husband also freaks out anytime he sees a dog without a leash on too. It’s not the lady’s fault the dog got out but still sucks that my dog and husband are emotionally scarred because of it.

I once saw a very helpful tip on TikTok about dogs being attacked and it made a lot of sense to me. They said that if your dog is being attacked DON'T pull your dog while it's being attacked because this will cause more harm, instead try to control and pull or take away the dog that is attacking your dog if no one is doing it. I'm glad it wasn't lovely Leila, but I hope the poor dog that got attacked is okay 🥺❤️

I feel bad for those dogs, because in my state if your dog attacks someone/ another dog unprovoked its seized my animal control and they have to evaluate if it's a threat or not. If it is they fine the owner and the owner is forced to surrender the dog. People need to learn that if their dog has any aggression at all it needs to be inside and not roaming about freely. I leash my GSD in public but when we're in my backyard he's off leash cuz he's trained and knows better to run after people or other dogs.

It might not be the best idea :(( The attacking dog very much could bite you severely on your abdomen/arms/legs while trying to get to your dog in your arms.
What is recommended is to let go of your dog and let them run off or hide if they can. Your dog's safety shouldn't be more important than yours. I know it's hard, (i also have a smaller dog) but if both of you gets injured, you might not be able to get help for them

I had a neighbor in an apartment community that would walk all 3 of her dogs without a leash. My previous dog was quite unpredictable when dogs ran up to her (even with her on the leash), so it was so stressful every time we were outside together. Thankfully management made her start to use leashes (and also start picking up their poop).

My little 16lb dog and I were on a walk on a golf course when an UNLEASHED DOG came charging at us from at least 50 yards away. It was terrifying. I scooped my little dog up, pulled out my knife, and prayed that what I thought was about to happen wouldn’t. Thank sweet baby Jesus the dog just took a lap around us to intimidate us, but STILL. The asshole owner of the dumb dog had the nerve to tell me, “it’s okay”. F people who let their dogs off leashes. Seriously. So scary.

I was dog sitting once for a albino pit, he’s super friendly but visually scary. I would walk him twice daily and the neighbors wolf hybrid got loose one day and attacked Simon. I just had to let the leash go and let them go at it and eventually the owner of the wolf came and pulled it off and I pulled Simon away with the leash. It was so scary, there was absolutely nothing I could do with a pit vs. a wolf…nuts.

My dog got attacked by a dog who ran away from his backyard while the owners where napping. She actually ended up getting hurt quite badly, and needed surgery and over a month of antibiotics, though she luckily survived! It literally happened in the blink of an eye, and now I am extra vigilant about any dog we see off leash. Just a minute long dog fight is enough to cause serious injury.

Ugh I've had my( leashed ) senior dog attacked while we were on a walk. It was an enormous mastiff that attacked my sweet baby boy. It happened so fast. He was pinned to the ground immediately and needed to go to the vet emergency for bite punctures. It was terrifying. He's okay now, but he's got some ptsd, he's now more hyper aware on walks, and so am I. So sad. I'm sorry you had to witness that.
I carry a gel pepper spray with me now on walks. It will be very uncomfortable for all dogs involved if i have to use it, but it's better than serious injury.

For dog fights, I've heard you are supposed to pick up the hind legs of both dogs and walk backwards. It keeps your hands out of the way of the dogs' jaws and it makes them focus on regaining balance rather than attacking

I have an Akita Chow mix and he is very protective. He's never attached another dog but I don't trust he wouldn't so I'm very cautious. I’ve been attacked three times while walking a dog… twice by a chihuahua that I had to hold off a senior dog and myself with my foot and once by a Pitbull that escaped it’s owner’s basement (whole other discussion 😬) and attacked and tried to mount the senior dog I was walking. That time my pup was saved by a quick thinking neighbor behind a very tall fence. And I only ended up with a few bleeding nail scratches before it’s owners came and got it.

I can’t take him to the dog park anymore, we have to enter through the back door at the vet, I can’t bring him anywhere we might see other dogs. All because of other people’s negligence. In a dog fight, you should throw water on the dogs. It will surprise them and you can separate them safely.

Dog fights are genuinely so scary to witness/experience. Weridly enough...if you stick a finger in the dogs bhole it will release from the other dog immediately. Sounds crazy- but it works. A dog attacked my puppy when he was little and the owner did it and it released immediately! When it doubt...finger in the pooper.

I've watched videos on how to pull dogs apart and the trick is to choke out the dog who is attacking. That way they release and try to gasp for air. I'm glad to hear y'all are okay and your animals.

Idk who put out those videos but thats terrible advice. You should never place your face and neck in close proximity to an aggressive dog's mouth, let alone when its already in fight mode. The wheelbarrow technique is far safer

    • @levineer524
      @levineer524 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Stay far away from a dog's mouth when they are attacking! They will not know it is you (their owner)because they are in a different headspace. They are scared and will twist around and bite you. Not to mention, it is very hard to get a hold of the front half of a dog during a struggle. The wheelbarrow technique is exactly what it sounds like: grab the dog by its back legs and pull and lift them away. You have way more control and it is safer for everyone. If you have a small dog and another dog is approaching and you are worried, pick up your dog and hold it.

I was walking my dog in our neighborhood once and an unleashed, unsupervised dog charged at us (I guess my neighbors think it's fine to let your dog randomly roam around outside alone). The dog was a golden-doodle and a lot bigger than my senior Yorkie. The neighbor's dog got really aggressive, and naturally, my dog's protective instinct kicked in and he responded with aggression. I had to yank him away from the other dog so quickly. Like, mouths were agape. It was a very scary experience. I doubt my neighbors even know it happened. They've never apologized or anything.
