I don’t mean to sound like a jerk but what is the point of making something free floating if there’s almost no shell? Am I missing something?

I’ve thought a bit about these shells. I tuned and played a maple 5” free floater and honestly the system is just a pain in the ass. Great sounding drum but doesn’t beat an old solid or 3 ply imo. I’d say there’s nothing you’re missing.

@@DALTRON666 since I have experience with both traditional and free floating systems of many brands, I’d say I do.
The amount of “pure tone” or resonance these pearl shells have doesn’t have a functional benefit over traditional systems.

@@liamdempsey7072 I own 3 Pearl Free Floating snares. I am a tuning nerd and I would have to agree with you that I do not hear a significant difference based on the FREE FLOATING design. But they do sound great and are some of my favorites snare in my 30 plus collection. Please clarify what you meant by "the system is just a pain in the ass". BTW, I had a 5" shell made with a 3D printer for my free floating and the results were impressive.

@@hdrumboy9744 oh it’s hardly a “pain” but considering that earlier models even had the extra long wires and that whole system too. To me it just seems like a bunch of parts that are going to fail and or at very least draw from the raw sound of the shell?? Which is like the whole point no!?!
