This DVD is for beginners and others who are already studying calligraphy. It can also be used by teachers.
The DVD explains how to hold the brush, and make the strokes.
I have been learning and teaching calligraphy for more than 50 years, with exhibitions in Japan and abroad. I can teach from beginner to advanced level. Also large brush and large paper calligraphy. Sometimes special lessons and workshops in Chiba and Tokyo.

Came here to get a casual tutorial but this is both stunning and relaxing to watch. Feels like anything you do is magical, has some kind of aura in it. I love the way you instruct thank you so much!
Thank you! This was very helpful and interesting. I especially liked how you showed the brush angles and how to tilt the brush during the stroke.
interesting points ,if anyone else trying to find out best way to learn japanese language try Pycanta Simple Japanese Protocol (just google it ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my work buddy got excellent results with it.

A very interesting video that I stumbled upon.
I thought it was inspiring, but have to admit that I couldn't quite see the charm entirely until 12:27; that vertical stroke she made is almost absurdly straight!
Very impressive, and no doubt she is a master of her art, which is always inspiring to watch.
I just started calligraphy some days ago because I had nothing goofd to do and I only an old water color brush and a small inkpot.
I ended up here and this video is so helpful and I am taking calligraphy seriously

While it is very detailed. However, what is the difference between the Japanese calligraphy and a Chinese one?! Totally a copy of the latter.
They are rather different visually with many subtleties if you compare them side by side. Also, scripts and languages evolve through time being passed down or through different areas and communities. There's nothing wrong with scripts having the same or different origins. It's just how it is. That's the interesting part about languages. Also, with kanji being introduced to Japan, and the fact that brushes are one of the most common writing tools across the globe, it's not surprising that the scripts will be similar in many aspects.
There is nothing shameful about copying. Everyone learns by copying. You learn how to call your parents by copying them saying papa and mama. You learn writing by copying characters. You learn how to speak by copying sounds. Copying, and then re-interpreting it into something personal, something only you can achieve. That's what everyone does on a daily basis.
The only time copying is shameful, is when people steal works and claim it as their own. *cough* amazing china copyright and IP integrity *cough*

This is way worse than Chinese calligraphy. Don’t compare to the real one. Japanese don’t know how to write calligraphy. The fundamentals are flawed.

I stopped watching after seeing incorrect stroke order on 馬 character (regular script). All the indications about gestures seem pretty forced, I doubt any calligrapher is adopting these kinds of forced gestures. Also her calligraphy is pretty bad imho. If you really want to learn calligraphy, you have to find a good teacher.
Adrián Amor its literally explained there why she does it like that.... shodo is an art form, not regular writing. And she's doing each kanji very slowly and exaggerated so any begginer can see exactly whats happening.
But this is actually pretty much PERFECT block script. I study japanese and have seen tons of shodo, and i'm just getting into actually doing it, but i can see that her's is spot on. If you want a more artistic one go to cursive
Adrián Amor also... look up her name... she's a world renouned caligrapher. Thats like saying "shakespare's writing is clearly bad!"
You are literally suggesting getting an unknown guy or gal to teach you over a world renounded artist. Of course, actual classroom experience is way better than a video, but many good caligraphers have admitted to haveing been self taught to a large degree
it's been 5 years since @adrian's insightful observation... i bet money he/she still can't produce Kanji :)
