I had an interesting encounter in Ephrata, PA. My husband and I were visiting the Cloisters and in our tour group was a group of Plain people. I assumed they were Mennonites because the men didn't wear hats and the women had scarves, not caps. I asked and the group leader told me they were indeed Mennonites. We talked for a few minutes about the clothing differences. He was very friendly and didn't mind my question. The best part was they asked the tour leader if they could try out the acoustics in the meeting hall by singing after the tour. A few of the group asked if we could listen and he said to join them. They lined up and sang 3 verses of a hymn. Their harmonies were beautiful. It was a little extra treat.
Just from watching the video, I perceive the store has a pleasant and friendly atmosphere. I can only imagine the tantalizing aromas. My favorite way to eat popcorn is simply with lots of melted butter, but I'd sure like to try the cheddar-jalapeno! I also have a sweet tooth and would buy some candy. If I lived close by, I'd be a loyal customer. May God bless and protect their business and all who work there.
Thank you for sharing this. What a cool little shop! If I wasn't half-a-country away I'd absolutely plan a trip. Now I want fancy Amish popcorn. Thanks.
My husband and I spend time in the Holmes County area of Ohio every 4 to 6 weeks, but we enjoy going to Lancaster County for short vacations. I can honestly say that this Popcorn Company is fantastic! My husband enjoyed the several flavors of popcorn I purchased at Emma Lapp's Popcorn Shop. I bought them at the new store just east of Intercourse in August. As soon as my taste buds come back, we plan to make a return trip to Lancaster County so I can enjoy the Popcorn too! And the ice cream! The new shop is large and beautiful, well worth a visit. We found it by chance.
I live near Bird-in-Hand and have many Amish friends. Love your videos Erik! And love Emma's Popcorn! Been there many times. Up on the Hill. Lol. Sooo many choices. And fun!! Anxious for their new store opening. And right next to the new Lapp Valley! What could be better than popcorn and ice cream! Nix besser!! 😉
Thanks Sue! Very cool you know this place. I'm looking forward to seeing their new location. I went inside on this trip, but they were still finishing things up
Love your videos! Could you address disability among the Amish? I’m curious to see how they handle individuals with physical disabilities in such a physically demanding lifestyle.
Thanks Sarah - so I haven't done a video on that topic but do have a couple of somewhat related website posts that might be of interest: amishamerica.com/what-if-youre-amish-and-cant-work/ amishamerica.com/amish-special-needs-children/
They have less demanding positions that still need workers, i.e., shop keeper, cashier, leather tooler, hand stitch seamstress, crocheter/ knitter, etc. I firmly believe they are more accommodating than our world.
Looks incredibly yummy !! I could never imagine soooo many different flavors of popcorn !! Well put some spaghetti shaker cheese on sometimes or leftover bacon grease instead of butter that's about as fancy as we get around these parts..lol.. Farout !! thank you for sharing ✌️🙏
I remember in the first decade of this century stopping at a motel in OH. It was on I71, & I believe exit 165 near Mansfield. There was a large, popular restaurant there, along with a gift shop. There was also truck parking! I would get a blend of four Amish popcorns there. I sure enjoyed that popcorn. What I got was the kernels, not the pre-popped. I have looked into ordering some online, but what I have found has crazy prohibitive shipping costs. If I ever get back to that area, I would check to see if that business is still there.
I live an exit away, I can arrange to send you some from there. Der Dutchman at exit 165 and I-71! Lovely place for sure. Lmk if you're interested in the popcorn and we will talk more.
Because you posted this at exactly the right time, I went to their site and ordered a bunch of their gf flavors for my wife and some plain ol' butter flavor for me. I really appreciate your videos. Thank you. Well done.
I think I passed Emma's last time I was in Lancaster. Next time I need to stop. Looks like a great place to pick up some Christmas gifts. Thanks for sharing.
Emma's is the best (-and HIGHLY ADDICTIVE)! Shame you couldn't show the prep area. It's fascinating. Since moving to their new location I'm going to miss their loooonnnngggg uphill driveway, the top overlooking the town of New Holland. Great video!
Yea you can probably tell by my filming style and joke with Ben at the end I was trying to keep them more or less out of the shot :) So couldn't really get the prep area. You're right it is a long driveway and the view is great, I actually filmed it but didn't include it here (was a bit overcast)
The last time I was at that “old” location I saw a tractor trailer driver BACK UP that long hill for deliveries. I had to shake his hand when he climbed out the cab. That was REAL talent!
You’ve shown us so many great Amish owned businesses in your videos. Is there some type of guide book for Amish owned shops in Lancaster County for people visiting the area?
There's a great resource called the Lancaster County Business Directory. It's not strictly Amish but many Amish shops are listed. You can find it free in stores locally or even access it online here: www.davcoadvertising.com/lcbd-2022/
Amish Church Peanut Butter Popcorn - i must taste this when I am in Lancaster/Gordonville Pa this year, 2023, God willing. I will definitely visit this store. Thanks for posting. I will call them to see if they ship.
When I clicked on this video, it was just out of interest in one of the unique ways Amish made money. I tend to not like popcorn so wasn’t too.. invested I should say? But now I’m here, really wanting some of that popcorn- Namely the ones with chocolate or caramel!😅 Really like these vids!❤ Edit: Peanut butter popcorn? Keylime popcorn? Pineapple??😨 Gosh we’re missing out!!😂
Looks modern for an Amish shop. A modern electric cash register and freezer cases with electric lights. Also I noticed all their products had UPC codes on them.
A very beautiful well designed popcorn shop. I noticed they have a modern electric coffee machine, I thought the Amish are against the use of electricity.
They're not - they just restrict how they acquire it, to make it less easy to plug in TVs and so on. Batteries, solar, etc are pretty common, though there's more to it than that
Oh my word!!! We're headed to Lancaster end of the month and I just made note of this store. I love to shop at smaller famy stores. I'm so coming here. The peanut butter schmere sounds Heavenly. Oh man, I'm doomed. In the best way. Yum 😋
So many flavors...you can probably hear my surprise as I was recording this. I had been in before but hadn't looked too closely. Key Lime Pie was the most shocking 😄
@@AmishAmerica that one caused an eyebrow raise for me too. The chocolate caramel sounds really nice too. I'm sure I'll be waddling out of the store after trying all the samples. 😊 I'm so looking forward to this trip. The fall is really a wonderful time in Lancaster.

100% untrue. I am friends with the family and the staff. They are Old Order Amish. The old store in the video was in the basement of their house. They were allowed to have electricity to make the popcorn and run the store. Now it's going to be turned into a rec room for the children.
@@RockinRavenVA thanks for the information but in 2014 I was in Lancaster and found out that many businesses like restaurants were not Amish. I feel rage how the Amish allows people pretending their businesses are Amish.

Thanks for including Emma’s website!
what a great place to get unique gifts for those who enjoy popcorn or even different snacks!
What a great video and thanks for the virtual visit

Do they sell by mail, phone any delivery to other States? A catalog would be cool too!! Yum!!
They actually have a website, probably operated by a non-Amish 3rd party (usually how it works): www.emmaspopcorn.com/

That's not what they believe. .. pics are graven images, not soul stealing.
They appear to not be as strict as some Amish stores regarding the use of electricity.
This is a more progressive area. Some businesses do have public electric if the building is leased. I'm not sure what is the setup here.
