Family Pride Sanitation

  • Family Pride Sanitation is another of the small companies that run in Phoenix and collect where the city doesn't (Curbside Disposal, Greenline, and Garden West being the others). Their frontline truck is this obviously ex-Phoenix CCC Leach 2RII. From what I've found before, their spare is a conventional 2RII. This truck seems to work really well for them, they often only have to pack once per street/area/account due to the 2RII's massive hopper and in part to the limited amounts of trash set out.
    This was an extremely lucky find, as Andrew and I overestimated traffic delays and we arrived to the area I last saw this truck in around 8:15 45 minutes early. To our luck and surprise, we happened to pass this truck a little further into the route around 7:30. We filmed them until the end of their route at only 9:20. Apparently, they begin their route as early as 3am. Catching up with them quite a bit earlier is definitely on the wishlist.
    Please enjoy the video and remember to like and leave a comment!

    Talk about ancient history! The old phoenix scheme, the Leach body, and of course the round strobe lights Crane Carrier. I remember seeing one of these years ago around Northern and 7th ave. Awesome video Christian! Thank you for the getting this video, and all the work put in to bring this beast to YT. Brought back memories of the old 2RIIs i grew up with as a kid.

    Is it just me or does anyone else find it weird that I know the guy on the back, his name is Patrick, he works for goodyear public works as a Bulky Waste collector. That is a badass truck too!

    Awesome find! I didn't know Phoenix had CCCs! The underground containers are neat (both in an interesting sense and that they literally make the area look cleaner). But they look like a pain to collect. Must get pretty sore after bending down so much. 5:44 looked pretty sketchy. Didn't stop at all when the truck was backing up even when the helper was behind the truck. I found the sound of the truck at idle very entertaining. But sounded even better when driving of course. Great upload!

    Those cans are a pain in the ass. I collected in the surprise /buckeye area in 100+ degrees and quit after 2 weeks. This is hard ass work, especially in AZ. This guy seems to have it down though.

      Ah yeah, the Sun Cities have to be a major pain in the ass. Parks & Sons does it ridiculously cheap too. Surprised they don't try to automate at least recycling.

    Doesn't get much better than CCC/2RII. Of course the Leach is a known quantity. Not much to say there. This one certainly bears the cellulite scars of brush duty on its ass, that jumped out at me even before the trailer hitch lol. But even before that what really caught my attention were the puffs of properly dark smoke out the exhaust. As always you did a great job getting the whole operation on camera, including the underground bins, which seem like a massive pain to deal with for the drivers yet really not all that awesome for the residents either. But they are always a treat to watch. Old school steel bins and all. Nice post Christian.

    • @GarbageTrucksAZ
      @GarbageTrucksAZ  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      georgewuzheer Agreed, it's truly an amazing combination. Yeah haha same about the bulk scars. I think the idea for the underground cans is because these tiny subdivisions have extremely limited storage and generally have no place for carts and areas with underground cans are typically predominately seniors so they don't have to struggle dragging cans out three times a week, just drop their grocery bags of trash in (there's a pedal to open a lid on the top, so they don't have to bend down). I really thought the old metal bins/underground and the classic CCC/Leach made a nice nostalgic combo. Thank you!

    Awesome old down and dirty packer! CCC/Leach combo just screams classic refuse vehicle. Plus we had very similar 2RII combos here in El Paso back in the 80s and early 90s. Brings back good memories. I also really dig that underground bin system with the tin cans. Must be tiring for those guys though. Great video thanks.

    finally gave myself a block of time for watching this! and it was nicely composed...I'm pleased to have that good driving shot right at the end. clean editing all around though. (then again, how couldn't a CCC/Leach keep me on the edge of my seat? :) how many trucks/employees does Family Pride have? not even sure if I knew that the City used to run CCC. did they have that chassis under any other body?
    always brings a chuckle seeing just how many small companies' trucks lack functioning backup beepers. It's always one of the first things to go, and the last priority to be addressed lol
    but she's a beauty anyways. thanks for doing the truck justice!

    • @GarbageTrucksAZ
      @GarbageTrucksAZ  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Thanks for the kind words. Pretty sure these two are the whole operation. If you look on the street view group, I posted a shot of their 'yard' not too long ago. Looks like just this, a conventional spare, and a parts truck.
      This was the city's ONLY CCC. They bought this one and went back to Volvo and it's always been a Leach.
      Yeah haha about the beeper. Wasn't exactly shocked by its absence.
      Thanks again from the comment!

    man these rear loaders are nice to watch but this is old technology... the automated trucks are way more efficient and less stress on the workers... the packing cycle is such a time killer on these rear loaders... the automated trucks continually cycle through even when moving... we have a automated truck come through where I live here in Milwaukee... the difference between that and the rear loader that used to come through here is night and day

    • @GarbageTrucksAZ
      @GarbageTrucksAZ  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Their specialty is neighborhoods requiring manual service, so I don't think they're too interesting in automating to loose all their contracts lol

    • @25mfd
      @25mfd 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      i'm speaking strictly from a business standpoint with regards to the use of automated trucks and carts... so hypothetically speaking, lets say this job comes up for re-bid... another company proposes using carts and automated trucks and ONE driver and cut the time on this route significantly and at a cheaper cost than the company in the vid... the company in the vid is out anyway... regardless of specialty... because the specialty changed and they could not change with it

    Something's that's greatly confused me is how cities manage their kerbside garbage collections in certain parts of the States. So this area is part of the City of Phoenix but the cities collection services don't extend to this area, so different haulers are contracted to undertake the services, correct? Anyway, defiantly an entertaining video non the less.

    • @ATSFpony
      @ATSFpony 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ivecofan21 A lot of cities that have their own collection departments, do not cover multi-family. While "multi-family" typically covers places with dumpsters, many areas like these with private streets are somewhat of a gray area, and can be serviced by either the city or private hauler. This varies from city to city, but typically, if the city offers pickup, they will only offer carted service- private haulers are, however, usually willing to provide manual or underground services such as this.

    • @wnytrashtrucks
      @wnytrashtrucks 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** and most HOA's either won't be serviced buy the city so they just use privative haulers witch for them is nice because it helps support local business

    • @GarbageTrucksAZ
      @GarbageTrucksAZ  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ivecofan21 ATSFpony hit the nail on the head. Put simply, the city only collects from single-family residences. These subdivisions are one property with multiple houses on them, like an apartment building but quite a bit roomier. There's some neighborhoods like these that are identical, but have a dumpster instead. These simply opted to pay for Family Pride to collect from each home rather than paying for a communal dumpster. Thanks for the comment!

    • @ATSFpony
      @ATSFpony 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nevertheless, there is no hard rule applying to all cities... Case in point, LA: I know multiple hoas with auto pickup by a private hauler, at least one with manual by a private hauler, and many complexes and trailer parks served by the city (carts picked up by a variety of auto and semi auto methods- not sure what the logic in picking method is there)
