    What a wonderfully simple, yet effective carry-all. It makes so much sense. I think that everyone needs to be more gentle with themselves this year. The last two have definitely been strain-ful. I am looking forward to seeing where your journey takes you this year. Take care.

    This was great! Just because of my modern association with the word "wallet" that hearing "market wallet" you think the bag would be a lot smaller than it is, but man can that hold a lot! And super practical at events.

    I actually have one of those, but terribly sewn with modern (fast fashion) methods (which meant that it broke because noone had apparently thought that the seams needed to last the strain), that I got gifted. This pattern makes so much more sense. Very happy to see that it actually is a historical thing and how it should be made.
    Very practical, but a bit bulky if you carry it around for long, I found it.

    • @OpusElenae
      @OpusElenae  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah I wouldn’t want to carry it for super long periods, but I also appreciate that it could be slung over a donkey’s or pony’s back for longer distances.

    Fascinating-I never even thought of "luggage" before the Trunks coming over on the Mayflower...This market bag sort of reminded me of the miser's purse which to my surprise (based on a quick google search is really a 19th century thing)...Which then lead me to Morgan Donners post from years ago on "lute" purses and a 14th century Norwegian purse that looks a lot like Japanese omiyage purses.

    English tea with almond milk on this snowy night. A great project to start the year. I like how you use a pressing ham as a 'third hand'. As for your bag, I had seen it in a lot of pictures from the peninsular war, as my regency working class outfit is far from ready I had completelly forgotten about putting it back on my wish (to do) list.
    It is so fexible, and for sure something that really works as is appears in over 500 years of paintings. I may take a look of it again before the events start.

    What is SCA camping? I would love to know!

    • @OpusElenae
      @OpusElenae  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The SCA is the Society for Creative Anachronism; it’s an educational organization based primarily in North America that focuses on pre-1600 world history. So we all dress up and go to events and some people fight and some people make thing (I make things lol) and some people do performances, etc. Longer events will have camping, like other reenactment events, so I made these to be able to carry things in a way that’s closer to 14th century accuracy than a sterilite tub.

    hi! I love your content, but because I'm autistic sometimes the background music is a little much, especially while you're talking. it's nice music! it's just a lot, especially while you're speaking (and occasionally when the same few short notes repeat 4-5 times). obviously you can't meet everyone's accessibility needs, I just wanted to put this out there in case you've been thinking about changing the amount of music in your videos
    usually less repetitive/more complex music, shorter segments of music, or music I haven't heard before is less distracting/overwhelming for me, and I think some of those things are preferred by neurotypical listeners as well, so there might be a workaround like that? but the biggest thing for me tbh is music while someone is talking, & I know some people prefer that. so again, if you like your current set up please don't feel pressured to change it
    regardless, thank you for your hard work! I really appreciate the closed captions

    Hmmmm I have plenty of mid weight calico I can use and can easily get the heavy weight if necessary. Going to make one or 2 of these once I have managed to change around my work room from tiny room to spare room (how on earth have I managed to collect so much STUFF!!!)
    Where did you get/how did you make your weighted sewing helper? It would be sew handy for all the times I need a 3rd hand when sewing and put less strain on my hands in general.
    Great Vid. Thank you.
