Wow. I was a 2012 graduate, wrote the quote at the start after a walk through of the school with life long friends at my mom’s funeral. Went from 4k-8th grade with both my siblings and we just watched the whole series and reminisced the whole time. An absolute shame the building is going away, so many memories and friends were made here.
Hey, glad to meet ya! That quote was one of the funniest and most true things to come across! Thabk you for playing along! Means a ton. Glad this video could help you down memory lane a bit!
Back in the late 2000s, I used to attend a kind of summer day camp for disabled kids, which was, for the most part, held in the day care room you walked into at around the 2:00 mark. We used to go out and do a bunch of other activities in the surrounding community, but this room in particular is all I can really remember from those days.
(2019 grad) 0:48 closed down because the building was falling apart and it would cost too much to repair it. 1:32 after school camp room, for the kids who couldn't get picked up at 3, was mostly a spot to do homework or play 1:57 is the younger kid's camp room, I think 2nd grade and under 6:02 I remember we did a reenactment of the stations of the cross for the whole school every year and they let me be one of the soldiers who whipped jesus and I cracked the whip against the ground so hard it reverberated through the whole room. anyway surely that wasnt traumatic for any children. 6:26 we didn't really do any of those musicals I think we just thought it looked cool lol 8:23 this wasn't used as a classroom when I went, it was the janitor's office 12:10 this is where we had chess club and crochet club 12:57 this room was used for kids who needed extra help with reading and math 14:46 we had secret santa (brought in some stuff kids could buy and gift wrap for their family) and scholastic book fair in this room 16:18 Gonzaga hall, home of the ice cream social and the halloween dance. the only dance we had. 17:51 the locker room doors were boarded up, I'd never been in them. the one way glass is freaky tho
Thank you a ton for all that info! And thank you for playing along! Means the world to us.. glad we could give u a lil walk down memory lane.. this was taken in Nov of 22. So I am sure the place is more beat up now. :/ Ty again
I went there from 4K to 8th grade (graduated in 2006). We were originally the St. Aloysius Saints, but in 2004, like 6-8 other parishes all combined their grade schools into one large grade school and rebranded at Mary Queen of Saints Catholic Academy, and that's where the Phoenix came in. Then we were the MQS Phoenix. But all the churches maintained their parishes. When the grade schools combined, they had an east and west campus, East Campus being the old St. Rita's grade school building and West Campus being St Aloysius's grade school building. I think later on, they eventually consolidated into just the St Aloysius building. St Aloysius parish, along with two other parishes, combined into what I believe was called the Mother of Perpetual Help parish, and then after covid and the eventually closing of the St Aloysius church building, Mary Queen of Saints moved to a school building on 116th and Greenfield. Thanks for these videos! They're great! A lot of memories (and some laughable PTSD) from seeing my old classrooms. Gonzaga Hall and the gym were always the best part of the building and had a bunch of different ways to get to them, which was always fun as a kid.
Thanks a ton for the info! I had learned a bit about the schools combining, but didn't realize that is when they rebranded. I'm glad we could help give you this trip down memory lane! Thanks for the kind words and for Playing along! We truly appreciate all the interactions!!!
You have no idea! In that lil room off the corridor, there was a closet with a pile of Miller Lite and High Life plastic pitchers from the festivals! So cool to see.. I should've asked to save 1... ty again for playing along!!!
@@DecadesofDecayUSA I wish I would have had more forethought as a teenager, a friend and I managed to get inside of the old Funworld before it was the soccer place, we didn't bring any darn cameras
memory lane here... crazy.. I graduated from here in 2007 when 8 of the private schools closed coming down to St. Al's and St. Rita's. Finished the second half of 6th grade through 8th grade at St. Al's after being at St. Rita's. Just crazy seeing old classrooms and knowing which teachers were which rooms lol. St. Rita's is closed now too :( has been for a couple years, they tried to save it for several years becoming a different Christian Academy but now it is closed. Maybe something to explore??? :) this was a blast from memory lane.
My grandparents were founding members of St Aloysius and my father was the 7th child baptized at St Aloysius in 1922. I’m a member of the graduating class of 1970. Thank you so very much for all these videos. So sad to see the demise. I blame the monsters in miters and their greed.
Thank you so very much for the kind words! We are glad these gave you a nice shot of nostalgia.. my whole family has been entwined with that church and school!
Yes we did go upstairs and roam through the gymnasium.. but my gopro died, so we only took still photos in the gym. Check out decadesofdecay.com for those photos. Ty for playing along!

I believe the room by the music room / daycare was the room they stored all the football equipment we went undefeated in 1978 won the championship
@@bobfrievalt6392 cool bit of history and going undefeated is awesome!!
My wedding reception was held in Gonzaga Hall on the coldest day on record, -29F. I also cleaaned the hall after events back in the mid '70's.
Thank you so very much for playing along! This entire site holds so much history for our community.. that was a cold cold day!
Wow that basement brings back so many memories of St. Al's fest. Thanks for uploading part 2!

We will definitely add st Rita's to our recon list! Ty a ton! And ty for playing along! Means a bunch to us!
I worked the bingo stand as a kid during festivals, they would "pay" me in icecream sandwiches.
That seems like an even and fair trade! I would work for ice cream now, at 44 😂

I was there not too long ago with my cousin.
When we were there we heard something metal being thrown down the hallway.
Unreal experience
this has always been one of our favorite places! it is too bad people trash it now :/
Did y’all check out the gymnasium? Those stairs at the end of the video led up to it.

Ty for playing along!
I helped in kitchen at times...my fav meal was hot turkey sandwiches 😊

Downstairs was my first grade as u walked down to your right ...my first grade class
