There were five main routes (connecting big cities) in the Edo period of Japan and post towns served as a place where travellers (and their horses) could take a break and could refill their food supply, etc. Tsumago juku is located on the "Nakasendo" route that connects Tokyo with Kyoto. There are 2 other very nicely restored post towns in that area: Magome and Narai juku that I can highly recommend to anyone who wants to embrace a bit the atmosphere of the 17th-18th century Japan.
Thank you for explaining it! I'd love to do the whole Nakasendo trail one day as I've only just stopped at a couple of the towns so far. Such beautiful spots!
Hannah, absolutely adoring this newest phase of your channel. You are creating content that really differs from the majority of what TH-camrs in Japan are putting out, in an incredibly sensory pleasing way. These videos have really been emphasizing the incredible natural beauty of Japan and the potential for more adventure-oriented folks who enjoy hiking and camping.
I used to live in rural Japan. The alarm like what you heard was often sounded when the dam way up the river released water from the dam. Basically a warning to watch out for a sudden rise in water depth.
I'm continually impressed at how every shot in your videos is so beautiful, you get so many amazing shots and angles. Some of those trails looked scary as far as easy to fall if not careful.
Would highly recommend for people to walk part at least of the Nakasendo. We walked from Magome to Tsumago. It is spectacular. Like you said - every step is a postcard. We ventured out from Nagoya to do so. It was big day trip and probably worth staying out there too. Ahh, Japan… so beautiful!
Hannah...this was astoundingly beautiful. Thank you for doing these places justice it seems. I would love love love to experience their beauty in person one day. Also, your 'and just like magic these will disappear' trick was hilarious to me XD
Oh my oh my. These drone views of the clouds, that water... Whaaaattt? No words are made to describe so much beauty. Amazing Hannah 😉 thankyou for sharing all of that with us.
I'm Japanese livinng in Nagano-ken. The noise you were annoyed at is not quite unusual. The rural area here especially deep in the moutain stilll uses cable broadcasts to let the villagers know things they need to every day. They still live a life without the most advanced technology. And this seems to be kind of the same reason I'm living here.Nagano -Ken also has a lot of spots you should try. I've watched some Ontake-san videos some time ago, but there are still good sites here and there. Wish you to come here again.
This is really amazing. Just discovered your channel for the past few days, the places you shared are what I really want to do. Thank you for sharing, definitely going to spend so much time in Japan.
@@CurrentlyHannah yeah and you did all the grit work finding all these information, truly a gem of a channel. One day i will get out of the concrete jungle city and bask on all these nature you shared.
What a beautiful view for having a cup of tea to get the morning going especially after that wake up call LoL The Jeep is already paying off. The waterfall was amazing, thanks for doing all the hard work to take us there 😁😁
Hannah, your last handful (10ish? I dunno 🤷🏻♀️) videos have had such great music. Really inspiring and fit the mood of your subject matter well. Thanks for putting the title & artist in the corner so I can look them up later! 😊
Thank you Hannah again for your videos. I have an prac exam this morning and your video calmed the nervous. Loved your attempt at the magic trick🤭😄 keep up the great work
The alarm is noticing that there are many people who want to get up early in the morning to go to look at Hatake or Tanbo.I think It is like a kind of Japanese culture in a local area. For foreigner it is scaring thing .
Beautiful light and colours in this one... that water. That town! That kitty haha, super cute. I also really like the hike breakdown at the end, thank you for doing it. And for sharing your locations! I'm hoping to visit Japan soon (you can guess how my Apr 2020 trip went lol) and always building that list of places to hike and see, and your channel is always inspirational.
I always save your videos to watch on a lunch break and they relax me so much I genuinely don't want to go back to work, it just feels wrong 😂 e v e r y s i n g l e t i m e ♥
Stayed in a tiny village in Kyushu for 2 weeks - they'd sound an alarm twice a day, really to tell time. I think it was once at 7:00 am & once at 7:00 pm... Still, was quite unnerving the first few days
17:30 think you were looking for "at your own peril". the desk works well! and the part where you slowly put away the candy after clicking your fingers to make them disappear: priceless haha.
That is cleaver. They made the trail head obscured, so only the people who have connections to secluded trails are worthy. It’s understandable just because of how wonderful that location is. They know how to maintain the natural beauty, and everyone who visits these place are just a respectful in not trashing the tucked away treasures. That historically preserved town reminds me of many scenes of the Samurai/feudal era of Japan that I see in time period anime like in Samurai Champloo. I think if they wanted to make a live action version of that anime that town you were in would be the ideal location for it to be shot. Something that I was surprised by how it had a tropical appearance with the type of vegetation along side the trail. Umm? I’m wondering if that Australian treat you referred to. Will now also be sponsoring you because of the plus gave them when you called attention to it. And now because that Japanese snack and the Australian snack have similar taste. Others might want to do their own taste test comparison trying to decide which has better flavor as well as a price comparison. You’ve just started a snack war!!! Dah Dah duuuum! Huh! In your final comment section location, I would to suggest that you angle the desk to where your back is to the corner, as opposed to the flat wall and cramped along the side wall. It might give you more room for you and the chair you’re sitting on and more space to hang stuff up on the back walls. Look forward to your next trek.
Worth it for the mention of Family Mart socks. 😂 Family Mart Socks - Reason #789 to go back to Japan as soon as they open to tourists again 😂 Beautiful video again though 😍
Leech tip: put ti-tree oil on your shoes and keep some with you, one drop on them will have them LEAPING off you 😆 Gorgeous video 😍 thanks Hannah and Chris ps. You two are so cute together ❤️
hi Hannah a bit of a weird question but is it safe to bring food into the forest? Aren/t u scared of bears fighting you for it? ps. Loved this video so mch! wonderful scenery
Your terrifying alarm reminded me of the false nuclear strike alarm in Hawaii a couple of years ago. I was THERE on the Big Island, woken up by neighbors to emergency broadcasts of incoming missiles. I now know what I'm like when facing certain death. I was far more accepting of it than I should've been, I think. But anyway, beautiful Beautiful BEAUTIFUL! Man, your hike vids just bring me in so well. It does motivate me to go out and do some hikes on my own. Great work! Also, you AND Chris are just hawt people. Tell him that. I love his smile. You two are wonderful!
Omg I heard about that and it just sounds absolutely terrifying! I don't know how I'd be in that kind of situation but I don't know if it would be acceptance haha So glad everything is okay for you though! And thank you so much :D Such a kind thing to say. He is quite the looker
Me too! Big Island, Jan. 2018. If I ever wondered how I would feel knowing I only had 15-20 mins to live, I found out that day! Surprisingly, I was very much at peace. I was with my family in a beautiful place, that is all I could ask for.
After the cameras got turned off i hope you enjoyed a skinny dip. Terrible shame if you didn’t. Having a spot all to yourself for an afternoon is a fantasy come true.
pro tip: never touch an amphibian without wetting your hands with water first. This helps to not harm the amphibian's skin. Gorgeous place. and great vlog.

Such beautiful places, and amazing shots especially the view of the valley. Thank you so much

Ah yes we learned this later! Such a scary noise to be jolted awake with at 5am 😅

Such a beautiful and peaceful place. Thank you for the amazing video!!
Just love the vibe of this video… so chill and calming. Just awesome!

Thank you! Yes it’s a little sketchy in some parts. I heard that there was actually another fatality here just last week 😞
What a great find, for the hike, swim, and cinematography.
Thank you Jeremy :)
Love the old village - the gardens, architecture, and especially the KITTY! 😸

@@CurrentlyHannah hahaha surely there are good few!! 😂
What a beautiful waterfal, I love seeing you share spots like this.
OK, this time you've gone too far with the CGI, a place like that can't be real.
That’s what I’m saying!!
I'm glad you've made it clear that it's a somewhat dangerous route, I was aware that there are a few treacherously slippery sections on it. 🙏
Oh my oh my. These drone views of the clouds, that water... Whaaaattt?
No words are made to describe so much beauty.
Amazing Hannah 😉
thankyou for sharing all of that with us.

Haha we actually did! It was my first skinny dip in Japan 😅 Felt so free
So the first place you went to was Mie?
3hours to hike down. 😲 how long did it take for the return trip?
Same for the return since it was equally up and down terrain. So it’s a pretty tiring day at the end of it!
Can anyone tell me the location?
Did you all switch socks at the 12:46 mark? LOL!🤣
