I saw this tour in Boston when I was 15. It still ranks as one of my top shows I've ever seen in my life. I just found this tonight, Thank you so much posting as it has brought a flood of memories back !
Theres something so unique about Nona, she was so creative. Her costumes her hair, her makeup and jewels on her face were light years ahead of what other singers were doing back then.
Her name popped up on my board for dispatch at a car service I work at. An event had her come as a guest. It was unmistakeably her (even just saying hello to let her know her car was outside). I was disappointed my colleagues didn't know who she was. But I do. And she's fabulous. Part of history. They broke every boundary for every genre. ROCK SOUL FUNK DISCO R&B
I had the pleasure of meeting Nona a few years ago and take a pic with her. Truly a humble person. I've always admired her writing and used to dream of meeting her and lo and behold my dream ae true!
Thanks for sharing this with the world. Folks need to see Rock and Soul Royalty in full effect. Who is out there giving it to us like this today . I was hoping to see a reunion tour of these Beautiful Queens. Unfortunately Queen Sarah Dash left us and now is Dancing and Singing in God's Heavenly Kingdom. 🙏
You miss the Reunion Tour in 2008. Even though they were older it was still mind-blowing. I’ve always wanted to witness raw talent and I did. My sister always told me about their live concerts. She always said they were light year's away. I was too young to see them when they were in their prime but I did get a chance to see them well-seasoned in their older age. 🔟🔟🔟🔟🔟🔟🔟🔟🔟🔟
Patti's group led the way for this fantastic sound coming into the mainstream. I wish more of it had continued, not the "whisper/whining" we have today. And yes, Patti has dynamics. And so did LaBelle the group. Wasn't all loud and funk. Was every musical dynamic u can think of. The more I watch old tapes of them, the more I'm amazed at their energy and ad libbing/live creativity.
There are two "girl groups", in my mind, that define eras, and the social climates, they represented and spoke to. And in my mind, they are the two greatest 'girl groups' of all time. The Supremes...and LaBelle. People sorta forget that the Supremes sang a handful of socially conscious songs, too...that came along, pre and post-Vietnam. But LaBelle is the proverbial "fallout of Vietnam" and all the social change that was born out of the end of the War and the country's progression into the lewdness and decadence of the 70s, for better and worse. LaBelle gave us a DEEP DIVE into black life in the hood, when no other female groups were doing that. And the thing that separates LaBelle from the Supremes in a VERY BIG WAY, is the songwriting talent of Nona Hendryx...her songwriting combined with the vocal prowess of Sarah and Patti, is just something that comes along once in a lifetime. RIP, Sarah Dash
As close as stage chemistry as Crosby Stills and Nash...totally in sync with each other. I'd love to see 10 more albums produced just like this performance.
Candlelight ended up on their final album Back to Now. Nona released Design for Living -- with Patti, Valerie Simpson and an all-star female crew -- on one of her solo records.
This live version of What can you do for Me surpasses the recorded version by light years 🏆🏆…..if you don’t know the enormous talent and power of Labelle….here’s your tutorial…Absolutely Phenomenal 🏆🏆🏆
❤ Rip, miss sarah!
Eccellenza...2023
I knew every song on this album!! One of their best!🥰
The Queens of Rock & Soul
They reigned for 59yrs...RIP Sarah Dash!
I think they were out longer than 59 yrs. I think they started out as The Ordettes then The Blue Belles then LaBelle
@@martinbirdwell7986 their 59yr reign came to an end when Sarah became an ancestor.
@@nutinman4u yeah but If I'm not mistaken didn't they start In the late 50s?, If so that means they were in the mix longer than 59 yrs
61 yrs 1960
@@nutinman4u okay cool
The energy Sarah and Nona gave off made Patti feel it and show out.
LABELLE took the girl group to another level.. their 3 albums for EPIC records are truely MAGICAL
Their pre Epic album on RCA Pressure Cooking was no joke. A shame it was totally slept on.
Too racially charged for RCA, which didn't promote it and dropped them. They went to New Orleans, released Lady M and blew up.
Rock and Soul Royalty Legendary Great Queen s Of LaBelle. ❤️💖💜🔥💖🎇🕺💃🦹✋🔥💯
I will never get tired of watching their live performances from the 70s 💜🤎💜🤎💜🤎🎛🎤🎛🎤🎛🎤. Fly up, Sarah 🕊
I just want to say these three ladys are really cool, and this is really music and singing❤
On the song "what can you do for me" I love when Sarah Dash comes in with that "oh Yeah" ..the pitch of that note is outstanding!!!
They knocked it out the park!!!!
Bud Ellison was feeling it back there when he sang background on "What Can I Do for You?"
That's Bud Ellison???

@Dana Howard Nona Hendryx, Grace Jones were the original LADY GAGAs.
I had the pleasure of meeting Nona a few years ago and take a pic with her. Truly a humble person. I've always admired her writing and used to dream of meeting her and lo and behold my dream ae true!
She was the writer who conceptualized the Nightbirds, Phoenix and Chameleon albums. Shaman was next when they split.
I love Nona Too 💕

Patti's sync with the percussion was amazing! Truly a top-notch performance! 🌟

lewdness?
What can you do for me would have the whole spot on their feet.😣

Too bad we never got the "Shaman" album. I wonder if the have unreleased songs

Sound engineer can't even keep up with the gain/levels for Patti mike. That voice is like a hurricane.
They still couldn't even when she was 69 y.o on Broadway
So Sarah voice was higher than Patti I didn’t that 💖💖💖
She was singing higher than her that's all
They definitely have a gospel feel
